  1. Update to the current thread: there is a fuse in the Sigma EQ Hyper power supply, inside a heat-shrink wrap, so it's not obviously a fuse. Luckily replacing that has resurrected the power supply and all is well. I still have to get 5000 mah out of the Lipo though......... Allan
  2. Many thanks for that, on the case! I dropped a note to George Worley at 4Max where I bought the Sigma EQ Hyper, pointing out that nowhere in the ops manual does it mention voltage switching and its vital importance!! You could follow the instructions to the letter and still blow up the mains section....... Allan
  3. Peter, It's cooked all the ic's in the mains power section by giving them 10 volts instead of 5 volts. The switch that selects the input voltage also selects a dividing circuit to bring the voltage down to 5. Moral is, where there is a switch, tape it over once the correct selection has been made! No fuses, or thermal cutouts to protect you.........they wouldn't work fast enough apparently. Thankfully all the chips in the charging control section seem to be OK; a new 200 watt power supply on my Cnristmas list..... Allan
  4. Thanks for the prompt response! 12v supply works fine so the problem lies in the mains power section. My brother in Wales will have a solution, I'll Skype him and post a result hopefully. Allan
  5. Thanks Pete, yes it was set for Lipo charging. New problem today: when I switched the charger on to try your 5A suggestion, it ran for about 10 seconds and then died. Checking the mains input voltage switch I found it set to 110 volts!!! A Gremlin at work..... What's died, and how could I fix it please? Allan.
  6. My problem is getting the full capacity into a 5S 5000 mah rated Lipo. Bought new, discharged to 15v, about 1800 mah output, OK. Recharge at 2A up to 18.5 volts, charger cutoff at around 20 volts and 2400 mah input. Two more cycles at 1A charge, but no more than 2400 mah in or out. Sigma Hyper EQ charger and a new battery should surely perform better? Allan Morris
  7. After those jaw-dropping pictures of Tony Murray's Concorde creation at Ashbourne, thanks to Alex Whittaker in the Feb 2013 issue, when can we expect the plans/build blog/CNC woodpack for this iconic aircraft???? A multi chapter feature would be the very least we will accept as subscribers!! Keep on doing your amazing magazine and even more amazing website, I love it. Best regards, Allan Morris Wilderness, South Africa
  8. Thanks for all your replies, much appreciated! Seems there's little to do other than accept that rated capacities are overstated. Discharge and charge rates are 200 ma and the pack was new, hey ho! I'm a returning oldie, revisiting my hobby of 35 years ago in my retirement! How things have changed! My excuse is that my grandsons will enjoy playing too...... AM
  9. Can anyone explain how to get a J Perkins 1300 mah, 4 cell nimh rx pack to accept the full 1300 mah? I have cycled it three times, from new, using an intelligent charger with 4 volts as the discharge cut-off and allowing the delta peak detection to shut off charging when "FULL". It only takes 800 mah whatever I do.......... Also, how can I bypass the BEC function on my ESC to force the rx and servos to use a separate battery pack? BEC seems to be the default supply as soon as I connect the ESC to the rx.
