  1. im still quite new to the rc flying scene and was apprehensive as to the way ppl would respond to me flying a glider thats over 8ft wingspan...at 1st i thought id have endless complaints and unwelcome comments by the oity toity types that live right near me,but instead ive had numerous ppl now pop over to see me/talk to me about the glider and gliding in general...most ppl are shocked at the size of the bird wich i think is the ice breaker as its far from what ppl imagine an rc plane to look like..not had one negative opinion as they can see im doing no harm what so ever and i also explain that "if" something was to go wrong that i have insurance and the chances of me hitting someones home or person just wouldnt happen being out in the sticks....so far one other person has gone out and bought an rc glider (parkzone radian) from what they have seen and been told by me..its just a shame we live in a world where ppl cant keep thier unwanted/unessasery comments to them selves...i think that the mass percentage of ppl are intrueged by them as it brings out the boy in all of us,theres just that one person who thinks we should conform to a more recognisable norm
  2. had 6 flights throughout the day weather was 9mph nnw wind down to 6mph with the odd little gust and 9*..short bright periods but lots of low level cloud about wich limited what i wanted to do today..after 15 seconds or so from launch,i had issues with seeing her and her position..the low level clouds were making it hard for me to max out the glider to serious height and with the sun barely showing its rays made things harder.. overall not a bad day as the wind coming up the hill was bareable and i now have a sports flask with long straw so i can drink my tea while i glide (although lighting up a siggy was slightly distracting).. im so glad im getting more and more comfortable flying now too wich means theres more chance il have this bird for a while..did have a few "moments" but have now learnt to relax more when a problem arrises.. if weather is ok in the morning then il try and work from home and go out for the odd glide during the day ricky
  3. i think thats a good idea,as long as when you get the wheels you keep in mind weight..i know its such a low weight extra but realy narrow but bigger is always worth a try with any plane id imagine.. i did think of making a realy light weight type of trolley that my glider can sit on..then maximum thrust and use trolley as roll along detachable device (landing gear)..the trolley would hold glider during build up of speed and then naturaly release itself on up elevator..also the idea was to use larger wheels x3 (kids pram type 10" ?),and use aliminium rods as the frame.. it was just an idea to toy with as a novelty but hand launches are easier obviously ricky
  4. i think i know the one you mean ?,try the kettle o fish when you are there next time, always fresher and seem to be better trade
  5. olly thanks but managed to sort it..i just re-programmed my tx then turned break on and all is ok now (although i was that happy/excited,i pressed wrong button on keyfob camera wich turned it off)..i aimed straight for the sky until she was barely visible and begun to glide/hover..was so happy that i couldnt wait to watch the video, then noticed the camera wasnt on realy feeling like a newbie today hehe oh will we live and learn thanks olly for your fast responce ricky
  6. i went to set up my glider today and found that there was a problem...i seem to have lost ailerons, and the stick that controlled them now does the flaps...there did used to be a succesion of bleeps,i now only have just two beeps..i turned the motor brake on the other day and dont know if this has caused it... please help, somebody, please ricky
  7. TIM,,,wouldnt be the kettle o fish by the roundabout n harbour by any chance ? hehe
  8. ive got to say that rc model flyers ive met and people on here have helped me more than i could of imagined, without them id still be climbing oak trees to rescue an 8ft wingspan glider (or glueing it back together).. i think having someone with disabilaties will help open peoples eyes a bit more too,as we all have our things that hold us back from being able to fly (obviously i cant put you as a comparison).. but if you lived within a half sensible distance from me,id gladly help in whatever way i could/can (even if it meant giving you a piggy back over the cow poo covered field at a fly site) and finding you a good place for you to sit in ur chair and watch, learn and fly im near rye (se coast) and if im close ish to you then let me know and il come and see what help i can give you/see what help you may need from me ricky
  9. hi and welcome you are in the right place for all help and info..and if mohhamed cant get to the mountain ??,perhaps we cant find someone to help you when/where needed.. getting someone to teach you how "not" to crash is a must, plus a good simulator helps.. looks like you know what you are doing when it comes to building tho ricky
  10. well i can cater for visitors (i have an old mobile unit, its where i sit when im shooting) hehe...im going to have a chat with a few local flying clubs and members and see how many people would be up for a change of site.. it wont cost me nothing to do so i wouldnt charge people..i would just exspect people to muck in wherever/whenever they can but not obliged to..i will do it if i know il have people to use it but bit pointless doing it just for me because i can launch and land where ever i want..so yes,il get started and see what interest i can get
  11. worked from home today but spent most of my time looking out the window..5* and 7mph breeze from the nw,perfect conditions but was just too misty near rye (se coast)..i dont feel comfortable flying the glider at low altitude and visibilaty was so poor that i couldnt even think of launching (within 10 seconds she would of been out of site).. im quite gutted realy because ive only just managed to turn my motor brake on after finding out after all these months that it was disabled...i spent hours on the net trying to find a resolve but failed, only found out how to reset back to factory settings wich still left the brake off..so after trial and error i managed to sort it,wich is why i was so keen to get out and fly.. knowing ive had nearly a 40 min flight with windmilling made me want to see how well i can do now when my motor brakes and props fold back realy gutted and now have to weather watch for the hour window that i can get the bird out and put myself to the test
  12. im on southeast coast kent and east sussex border right near rye..been having a look today and its more than possible to dedicate a bit of my land as a fly site..and i think the greenhouse (6x10 meters) would make a good club house..would be very easy to run electric into for extra heating, kettle, fridge and chargers ect..the only issue would be that parking would have to be up at the house, but the site is only a minute walk..people could park down there in the summer but not during the bad weather (cars would have to go across my main lawn to get to the gate to drive doen into fly site)..im sure i could sort something tho.. where abouts are you alex ?? ricky
  13. luckily i dont have foot paths or sheep (not nice landing a plane in sheep poo ) ..was also thinking of designating a section of field to local flyers and have a barn or large greenhouse that could be used for flyers..the greenhouse is empty and alreday has shelving and work tops (barns ok but dark, even with the doors open.. i think it would be easy for me to do once ive leveled and flattened..it would then just be the mowing on a regular basis...if you look at my youtube videos, you can see the flight site..its on the top of a valley so realy good for gliding.. i think im going to give it alot of thought and maybe start something ??
  14. ps.. i must also add that the problem of owning large land and letting someone on it can lead to other people turning up (mates, passers by,other flyers ect)...when people pass by and see someone on the field,it draws others in at other times for other reasons.. ive only ever had one guy ask if he can shoot on my land but had to refuse (the reason being that i shoot there and dont want "strangers" randomly walkin/driving on my land..
  15. well i own my own fly site and live out in the sticks so firstly,, the smoothe grass runway isnt easy to do..i had to get a plough to break the ground up and then thin out the soil (break up the lumps of mud)..then i had to put a huge roller over it lots of times until it was flat and firm.. i will have to do this a few times a year as i have stuff growing wich needs to be harvested then turned over.not a simple job if the land has a use.. i fly an rc glider so i can launch from "anywhere" but the whole landing strip goes to waste when there is cross winds and i cant land on it.. the only way id have the perfect strip is for it to be 100m square but life just isnt that simple.. although the perk to gliders are launching and landing as they can still land on bumpy ground.. also,,if you are flying near peoples houses then insurance is a must but im sure that being so close to houses will cause you endless problems so my advice is to get an rc powered glider and find somewhere out the way where you can fly until your batteries go dead or the tea flask is on empty ricky
