  1. Hi Guys I bought the Humbrol enamel number 30 Dark Green and I am really pleased with the colour. It is slightly darker than the colour in the pictures of Tony's Vulcan in RCM&E. It is a bit glossy but I like it.
  2. Tony used Humbrol Enamel paint. Does anyone know the code for the green. I have bought Dark Green (code 116) but it appears far too dark. The light grey I bought seems ok not opened the dark sea grey yet.
  3. Glenn No I haven't moved the batteries to the retract bay but wish I had now.It would bring the weight inboard a little and perhaps put less stress on the wing joint. I suppose I could move them but not sure I want to bother now. Good thinking on the C of G.
  4. Been away for a few weeks but here is the latest. No tail, batteries, retracts, covering or paint Weighs 55 ozs or 3.4 lbs Radio going in front retract well. Doors to make for this and battery compartments
  5. Reply from model markings: [email protected] If you just want the 4 roundels and RAF Fin Flash that will be £4.99 plus £1.50 postage.   Sounds good.
  6. Just been looking for decals for the Vulcan and the ones suggested from Pyramid Models are over £30 inc postage. They may well be top of the range and good quality but there is no way I can justify spending that amount of money. They are not exactly complex or even many of them. Anyone have any ideas for doing them cheaper.
  7. Here are some readings: I thought I had a power 'Y' lead but can't find it so I put the Watt Meter on each side in turn using a cheap Hobbyking 3s 2200 35c. Starboard side which runs the two centre fans. 256.3 watts 22.79 amps Port side which runs the two outer fans. 250.7 watts 22.29 amps TOTAL 507 watts 45.8 amps.
  8. Martin It appears so, they are 55mm O/D. I had to make the holes in the fuse bigger. Due to the fact there was no stock in the Hobbyking UK warehouse I ordered them from the EU warehouse and was surprised when they came with a "DrMadThrust" label although they have the 5 blade fan. Have been debating how to finish the model but have bought the Easycoat suggested by Tony N and paint it. I was hoping to find a covering in Nato grey. With so many people building warbirds I am surprised I couldn't find any of any make. It would also have been handy to find the green colour covering and then just paint the grey on.
  9. Fans were stock and using 3s 2200 35c. I have connected the two inner fans to one battery and the two outer to the other.
  10. Carried out some static thrust tests today which came in at 60 ozs. Given that the Vulcan is projected to weigh 3.5 lbs = 56 ozs that gives just over 1:1. So things are looking good.
  11. Fired up the four fans and a little disappointed with the amount of thrust although probably enough to fly. I will do some static thrust measurements in the next day or two. Technically 4 x 50mm =200mm EDF however some of my 70mm planes seem to have more thrust and certainly my 90mm planes are way more powerful. This is all subjective at the moment whilst holding them/it in my hand.
  12. This is the ESC I bought and there was no way it would fit in the bay. **LINK** I inserted the intake in one side drew round it and then cut with an hacksaw - very easy. I don't plan putting the centre supports in as they serve no useful purpose on a model this size. I am using a Spekrum AR636 AS3X stabilisation receiver so needs to be near CofG so planning to put it in the wing retract bay with a cover as not using retracts. I am having a problem fitting the plastic cover over the motor/ESC bay. It is not wide enough to fasten as indicated on the plans. so need to make up some additional framework.
  13. I bought a Quad ESC and the problem being I could not fit it in the limited space in the thrust tube bay so ended up buying four ESC's. I will have to buy a quad frame now.
  14. A friend of mine cut this on his lathe made the job easy. The picture makes it look straight but it is tapered.       Edited By Alan Jarvis on 19/10/2014 16:32:09
  15. The Vulcan is coming along Although the real one doesn't have afterburners I couldn't resist. I screwed up on the wing. You need to lock down on the rear spars and trailing edge and don't move it until you have the front edge and top spar in place. I am having to recut mine and redo it.
  16. Martin Sorry I mentioned those fan blades and put you to some trouble. I have now finished the fuselage part and moving on to the wings today. Alan
  17. I ordered the Hobby King 50mm fans and when they arrived they had DRMAD stickers on them so I thought of ordering the following. Anyone tried them? **LINK**
  18. Ref my previous post, have just re read the forum again and see that they are they same EDF you used. So happy now. In stock EU warehouse. Alan
  19. Hi Tony It would have been nice to know which EDF's you used. I have ordered 4 of the following which states a thrust of 450g. However reading some blogs people are saying they only give just over 200 g. Although I haven't received them yet I am beginning to think I have wasted a good bit of money. **LINK** I am thinking 4S may have been a better choice Alan
  20. This is run by two brothers and I live fairly close to them and have visited them a few times. You will have no trouble with your order. Good luck if you intend to visit them as they are tucked away in a very nice small village called Troutbeck
