  1. My son rebuilt one that was built from the original plan but enlarged to 120" wingspan. It is now converted to electric and flies very well. The nose is very short so keep the back as light as possible as we have nearly 8 pounds of lead in the nose! It is a good flying aircraft and has a great profile in the air.
  2. Hi Ernie Sorry to hear that you have not been well. Your Archie looks great, well done. Good luck with the test flight and I am sure it will be fine. Byron loves the way his flies and has even done a few touch and go's. He has done about 15 flights with his and has found no nasty habits. you need to hold full up at the start of the take off run as the cg is not far behind the wheels so the nose skid is needed! If I look at the pictures then you will need more up ailivator for level flight as you can see on the pictures of Byron's. Landing is best done with a flat approach and slowly reduce throttle whilst holding plenty of up. We have found that the trottle is used as much as the elevator as it is hard to lift the nose without adding power. Sounds worse that it is. Chris and Byron
  3. Archie flying her colours! Byron loves the way it flies.
  4. The archie is now completed and will be flown over the Easter Weekend and we look forward to seeing the colours in the air. Byron used 2k paint for the light green and silver and a friend did the stickers for him. The interesting part is the way the registration lettering appears to be a different green to that of the rest but it was from the same sheet of vinal. Byron has enjoyed building this aircraft and the way it flies so if you want an unusual project that flies well then go ahead and build one as it is a very worthwhile project. Well done to all of those who had imput into getting this design into the magazine.
  5. We had 5 flights with Archie this weekend, 3 on Saterday morning and 2 yesterday afternoon. 4 of the flights were in cool, for us, air and one in quite bumby air due to thermals. This one very impressive and easy aircraft to fly in calm conditions. Take offs require full up to be held for most of the take off run to prevent nose overs. Once in the air it is gentle yet quite responsive. Byron did roll it but did not get a loop right as it did not want to go over the top of the loop due to a lack of elevator response. Landings are quite easy but reqire a flat approach and and elevator and throttle managment. The aircraft is very stable in the air and is responsive to ailerons but the elevator is soft so planning is needed. In windy or turbulent air it is less plesant to fly as it is pushed around quite a lot. The painting can now be done as no changes are needed. Ernie, please finish your Archie as you will enjoy it and it is quite funny to see the response of other club members. Notice how much up is required on the elevons.
  6. Photos from the first flight, not many as the camera battery was flat. As you can see photos are not my strongpoint.
