  1. Posted by Mike Sedge on 02/05/2020 12:33:12: Yes PETG, I used to favour PLA but find PETG is better for most applications. No messing about on yor part, I assume you've used the same This Lockdown is a nightmare, the sooner it ends the better....at least they can't stop us 3D printing. Yes I printed in PETG. Much better for this application.
  2. Look good Mike. Is that PETG? Mine are done and fitted on the model. If only we were allowed out!
  3. Posted by Mike Sedge on 29/04/2020 22:15:49: Thanks Martin, What design program did you use, I tend to stick with Fusion 360 so can handle F3D file if you don't mind sharing if you use Fusion. I would think PETG a good choice for this job also, better for flex and vibration absorbtion. Bruce, thanks for the tip....I can't risk the weight gain! Edited By Mike Sedge on 29/04/2020 22:22:43 PM me your email Mike and will send the f3d file. Struggling to get things loaded on thingiverse this morning but I have a new version that is slightly thicker and have added some spoke type internal ribs.
  4. Unfortunately, even though I printed in PETG, the mud guards were only successful for around a dozen flights before they started cracking with the vibration. I haven't bothered with them since, but I'll find the file and beef up the thickness. Will put stl on thingiverse and post the link on this thread when done. Be nice to get them durable because they did a great job whilst they lasted..
  5. Did some aerotowing at the weekend so lots of take off and and land. With wet ground the underside of the wing got plastered in mud so when I got home I drew up and printed some mud guards. Hopefully not so much cleaning next time out!
  6. Not a lot wrong agreed. And it speaks to you. To me spoken telemetry is a must.
  7. I don't think so. Frsky is well established, reliable, incredible value and with open source software on the taranis there is quit a following. I wouldn't dismiss it on the grounds that it won't be around for long because it will.
  8. It's a shame that a lot of this telemetry doesn't include a speech module. Connecting with a phone (and I know a lot do it without issues) goes against general advice. I hope FrSky develop one soon because their prices are amazing **LINK**. At the moment because I want speech I'm using a HOTT system and find the vario pretty good but do have to take in to account about a 1 sec lag.
  9. Posted by buffetslayer on 20/05/2012 05:46:36: I found the Mrs' nail polish remover worked well Brake cleaner from a motor spares shop does the job, use it for general cleaning of your models as well. It doesn't attack plastics and it's cheap.
  10. I have had the choice of radio debate over & over again and to cut a long story short non of the recognised branded 2.4 radios are bad. It boils down to features and your own confidence. Some are supplied with better battery systems than others but all can easily be upgraded,Surprised there's no mention yet of the Graupner Hott systems **LINK** very good prices at Electric Wingman.

  12. Hi Steve, Your nearest club would be Shropshire Model Flying Club based at Forton near Montford Bridge www.smfc.biz There is a scale glider day going on there this Sunday and a Fun Fly day the following Sunday and with over 80 members regular attendance at other times. Why not pop down and have a chat with a few people, there's no better way of getting advice. The club also has some of it's own trainer aircraft to have a go on. I shall be at both events so maybe catch up with you. There are other clubs in Shropshire, check out the BMFA web site for all the affiliated clubs. Welcome to the hobby and have fun.
  13. I recently had to upgrade my radio for more channels as I got more & more in to the large scale glider scene. I have been a JR/Spektrum user for several years but am not over impressed with the Spektrum prices and features on their latest developments. I did extensive research and settled on the Graupner MX-20, mainly because of it's features and telemetry data and very reasonable price when compared to the competition. As this thread is about telemetry let me say what I like about it. The first main thing is I don't like the idea of live telemetry data is if you have to read it, even with a glider at 5m wingspan I do not want to take my eyes of it at 400 plus meters in height so spoken data to me is a must and the Graupner Hott system offers just that. I use a GPS/vario sensor that plugs in to the reciver and with headphones plugged in the transmitter I get 5 tones up & down of vario and at a flick of a switch a list of spoken data. You can program in how much data you want but main ones are altitude, speed, batt voltage real time and lowest reached (tran & reciver), signal quality, gps heading, receiver temp and so on. I love this data whilst flying, some of it is obviously a real help in making the most of thermals. I know we don't all fly gliders but there are a number of other modules available to suit data required in other types of flight. All the data is stored on a SD card and is really quit fun viewing it later on your PC, including a Google satelite image map showing a trace of your flight. Having now used telemetry I would not want to buy a set again without it but let's face it, we can still very much enjoy our hobby without it.
