  1. Hi, I am about to paint the cockpit floor - the balsa edges which will come into contact with the cockpit material should these be painted or left plain? I will be using Deluxe Glue 'n' Glaze adhesive. Mike.
  2. Hi all, I purchased these some time ago and plan to use them in the cockpit. I cannot remember who the supplier was! Does anybody recognise these items and know the supplier? The bezels are stick-on and have a 'bubble window' Mike
  3. Sorry to hear that BEB. Hope you find the reason soon and possibly we can all learn. Mike.
  4. Thanks BEB, Top and bottom sheet _ With wing assembled to the fuselage cover wing root with cling film then lay down thin ply cut to the shape per plan then glue edge to fuselage. Then thin balsa sheet cut to the fairing shape and glued to the ply. Mike.
  5. Hi all, Wing fairings Using Phil's wing mod which method to use? I intend to fix to the fuselage. Solid built up or top and bottom sheet. Thanks for any hints tips. Mike.
  6. Danny, what grade of blade do you use on canopies. It is this sort of info that is lacking in the mag and books in general. Master builders like yourself need to share this info with us mortals (please). Mike.
  7. Hi Danny, what do you mean by a jewellers saw? is it some form of a 'Junior hacksaw'. Mike.
  8. I understand the mag format is limiting but perhaps some master builder out there could write a book. I have a copy of DB's excellent book but it does not cover all aspects, maybe the subject is to 'wide' for one book. Here's hoping!! Mike.
  9. Hi Just like to thank Robin for the link to those scissors - ordered a pair and arrived today!! Tried them out and they are absolutely fantastic they cut PETG (canopy material) just like butter and being curved follow complex shapes easily. If only I would have known about these before it would have saved me a lot of hassle. Now I hope the mods and those upstairs at RCMandE are looking and listening! Please can we have some articles that covers tools and basic techniques re 'balsa bashing' for us novices. I subscribe to the mag but do not see many articles on the basics yet there are plenty on the ARTF. Mike.
  10. Thanks BEB, I have to get a replacement canopy the one supplied came from Sarik vacforms or should I try Vortex. Having difficulty in getting their website - keep being redirected to some site trying to buy gold jewelry!! Mike.
  11. Thanks WF, what brand of scissors are you using? My 3" scissors tend to mark easily. Mike.
  12. Hi, Hope master builders are still monitoring the Tucano forum. I am having difficulty in shaping the Sarik Vacform canopy supplied by HMS. What techniques should be used to cut the vacform without marking. Using scissors I have wrecked my first attempt so before I attempt another better ask? Where should I get the replacement - Vortex or Sarik? Mike.
  13. Hi WF, I am looking at your cockpit detail (page 11), - Have you cut down the width of the pilot and seat? I have noticed that the Vortex parts are almost the full width of the fuselage. Mike.
  14. A lot to do yet!! Still got to tackle the thorny question of covering My planned scheme is 'the Battle of Britain' so its got to be a painted job, My first choose would be tissue - what do you think? I have some PolyC and fibre matt but tried a sample a few weeks back and found I could pull it off!! With my luck on this project, a few weeks to go yet. The 'twisted wing' poor wood selection, and the dreaded CNC pack set me back a bit. I am truly amazed how you guys can produce a quality Tucano in next to no time, I guess I am at one end of the skill spectrum and you lot are at the other (top) end. I have other things to do in life like a partner and an Allotment. If we could stop the clock or slow it down a bit!!! Mike.
  15. Thanks, What type of glue did you use on the canopyt material? Mike.
  16. Hi WF, I take your point about contact area - did you paint the edge before gluing? I am using the Vortex pilot seats and some has to be trimmed off to allow for the new balsa edge. A question on expanding poly... I bought a can some time ago when I filled the pilots, the stuff was quite expensive and totally useless after 4 months on the shelf. There was no blockage after the button. What did come out was at a low pressure and did not expand much. Have you on here found this too? Mike.
  17. Cockpit floor: I am using the vortex vac-form pilot seat and instrument binnacle. This Assembly extends almost the full width of the fuselage, do I just glue these to the cockpit floor? Some builders have used elaborate floor schemes but can I just make a simple 1/8" ply floor. The seat rest is hollow should this be filled in with expanding poly-foam? Mike.
  18. Thanks, I had seen a reference to F4 but not sure where. I typed F4 in the search box but came up with nothing. Mike.
  19. Hi all, I have just started to look at the cockpit and have noticed F4 from the CNC pack appears too wide see pic. Could somebody on here measure their outside fuselage width at F4 location, I get mine to be 62mm whereas F4 is 75mm at its widest point. Just what is going on here - is my fuselage too narrow at this point. It seems OK with respect to F2
  20. On my PC Colin's pictures were in the normal sequence - Has there been any changes to the RCM and E web site? Mike.
  21. Page 77 is now OK - I take it the ads are now a permanent 'feature' on the forum pages. Mike
  22. Just why have they mucked about with it!! The reply pane is reduced by a third - put the ads somewhere else!! Mike.
