  1. Perhaps I am like many who use a mix of systems, so there is no clear response from me (us). All my transmitters are JR, but I use a Spektrum module in one, a JR DMSS (XG system) in another and a mix of JR, Orange and RedCon receivers. But no Spectrum receivers!! I think many other users are doing the same these days. There is no clear leader any more.

  2. It's nice to see that JR have now come up with a new "Flagship" transmitter. We don't all want one, need one (or can afford one!) but it is the top end sets that push the boundaries that filter down the range later. Also interesting that the styling is more conservative than recent "Robot/ Star Wars" type designs. Does this mark a change of direction or merely reflect the tastes of those you would buy this kind of set?

  3. Just seen this. Seems like the new JR Flagship transmitter is going to be the JR 28X. Android powered DMSS system with 28 channels, 15 flight modes, very high resolution and a cast aluminium chassis. Nice price tag I should think!

  4. A Question,

I like the look and adjustable nature of these RC specialities items. But, what about the "noise reducing" aspect of these? They look to have a smaller volume and a bigger outlet (though it's hard to know from a photo) This might mean more noise than the standard or are these really good muffler/silencers too? What is your opinion as users?

I fly at a very noise sensitive location so this is a key issue.

    Thanks

  5. I was wondering the other day if I could think of a model glow engine for every size from .01 to 1.0 cubic inch capacity. Why I started this line of thought I don't know. I came up with lots, but there are plenty of gaps.

I bet there are lots of you out there who can fill in the gaps in my list!

  6. I have a problem with Ronseal Polyurethane varnish used as a fuelproofer. I have used it in the past OK but on my current model (BT Kingfisher) it is just going soft and sticky where the exhaust touches it. After only 7 flights. It just doesn't seem at all fuelproof.

I now have to work out how to get it off my model, and retreat with something that works.!! Any ideas for cleaning off the varnish without ruining the silver paint underneath??

  7. Thanks Dave,

I was looking at fitting a Saito 120 radial with 168mm diameter, so it may well just fit in OK! Given that it is heavier than a standard 91FS that may be a good thing to get the CG right. Power is about the same as the 91 though so should suit the model well. Thanks for taking the time to reply. Glad your model is still going strong

  8. Hi Chris,

Thanks for your suggestion. However, I'd seen the vid and ruled out the H9 Corsair on the grounds of retracts! Whilst these are probably fine on tarmac and hard smooth surfaces. they don't do se well on bumpy grass! I was looking for a biplane or other model with a fixed U/C. My ideal would be the old SIG Waco SRE kit. But these are no longer available. Unless someone out there knows better!

  9. I'm looking for a suitable model to put my Saito 120-R3 3 cylinder radial in. Power output is more akin to a 90FS than a 120FS. I'm obviously looking for a radial cowl scale model. I don't want the complication of retracts as I fly from a grass strip which is not perfectly smooth and flat. (I've seen too many retracts ripped out over the years). I fancy the Great Planes Waco, but at 13lbs and 72" span I feel it may be a bit too much for the Saito. I'd like to scale up a BT Kingfisher plan (as the cowl on the original 1.72 scale model is too small a diameter to hide the engine) but I'm not sure I'd ever get it done. Any other good ideas for a suitable model?

  10. Hi,Looking for a set of plans for the RCM&E Jack Swift 1/4 scale Taylorcraft. RC1589 - Taylorcraft Clipped Wing Cub.Had a set and built the model and now have lost/mislaid them! I need to do a wing repair and need the plans! Lots of scale plans I could swap. Thanks David

  11. Chris thanks for taking the time to investigate. The page in question had text under the ads even though I was in CV mode. However, whilst on that page I switched CV off and on again and it sorted the problem.

However, in my PM inbox the text still runs under the ads whatever I do. So it seems a bit more than just the CV issue.

    Sorry to be a pain.

    David

  12. Using IE I'm finding the adverts on the right are covering the text on almost all threads and my PMs. There must be some site problem causing this surely? I don't have this problem using any other site.

It's not just on one person's post or just one thread. If you could solve it, I'd be grateful

    Thanks

  13. I've tried experimenting with a mix (linked to a switch) to cut the throttle when using "idle-up" mode for flying. This seesm to work fine on the bench. I'm going to try it on a twin engined model first. If that noses over the props don't touch the ground so stalling the motors is not an issue in this case.

  14. Thanks to all who have replied.

Danny and Chris have got to the heart of what I was concerned about. I'm used to flying scale I/C models with a continuously turning prop and find it hard to imagine a landing approach when the prop stops completely (if you pull the throttle stick right back). The braking effect (and the look of the model that matters so much with scale flying) are to my mind big considerations. They also affect the flying of the model. As I'm so used to flying I/C (and will continue to fly I/C) I'm trying to keep the throttle control as similar as possible between the 2 power sources.

I'm tempting towards setting up the model with motor cut at low throttle (with trim centred) then increasing the trim to give low revs (like tickover on I/C) for flying. I can then use the throttle cut function on the tx to cut the motor after landing (or nose-over!). If that's not good I'll try a mix as Chris suggests.
