  1. I scrapped the ridiculously heavy Volantex motor that came with mine and fitted a Turnigy Aerodrive SK3 - 2830-920kv motor which weighs only 57g instead of 140g. That sorted out the nose heavy problem. I am using the same prop that came with the model and 1000mah cells. The model is so much lighter as a result and flys much better too with balance at the correct place

  2. Thanks for all the ideas. In the end I decided to start again. I've removed all the enamel paint from the cowl in question and have repainted with car spray paint and then used Aerokote 2-part fuel proofer for a all-round tough finish.

  3. What can I use over Humbrol enamel paint that is really Fuelproof (against 15% Nitro fuel) and won't attack the paint?

    Also where can I buy 4mm thick sheet Dural /H15/ AU4G grade aluminium for a U/C? Need a piece 700 x 80mm!!

  4. I ordered goods (radio item NOT lipos)l from the International warehouse on 20th May. Shipped on 2ist May and still not arrived in the UK (according to tracking) on 11th JULY! That's over 50 days for airmail. - Claimed from Paypal and just been refunded. Still no parcel. Obviously a real problem at the moment.

  5. Thanks Tim and Cymaz.

It seems to me I need to get a nut inside the fuselage, which is pretty impossible to do. However, if the hole in the kit is not tapped, then I will have to try to find a way to do just that. Access is blocked by a former. Might be easier to cut away some of the covering underneath so I can get some fingers in there!! Then replace the covering after the nut is done up.

    How did the Moth fly?

  6. I'm not sure if this is the appropriate forum to post this; but with so many scale bods reading it it seemed worth a shot!

I have a Flying Legends 1/4 scale Gypsy Moth kit I'm assembling. The instruction book is pretty poor as it does not give you the info you need (there's a new thing for an ARTF!)

I would like to clarify how the bottom wing fixes to the fuselage. The model has folding wings and obviously the rear spar attachment point on the wing  bolts to the fuselage with the bolt acting as the hinge. So it's a pretty important mounting. There is a pre-drilled hole on the bottom of the fuselage in the "right place" to line up with the wing spar hole, but the bolt drops straight in.  There is no tapped hole (or way to get a nut on from behind. None of the photos show a close up and the instructions don't even mention it. Is my kit faulty (should it have a blind nut or tapped hole in the fuselage - or am I missing something obvious?

Any advice from someone who has a model would be appreciated.

    Thanks

  7. Perhaps I am like many who use a mix of systems, so there is no clear response from me (us). All my transmitters are JR, but I use a Spektrum module in one, a JR DMSS (XG system) in another and a mix of JR, Orange and RedCon receivers. But no Spectrum receivers!! I think many other users are doing the same these days. There is no clear leader any more.

  8. It's nice to see that JR have now come up with a new "Flagship" transmitter. We don't all want one, need one (or can afford one!) but it is the top end sets that push the boundaries that filter down the range later. Also interesting that the styling is more conservative than recent "Robot/ Star Wars" type designs. Does this mark a change of direction or merely reflect the tastes of those you would buy this kind of set?

  9. Just seen this. Seems like the new JR Flagship transmitter is going to be the JR 28X. Android powered DMSS system with 28 channels, 15 flight modes, very high resolution and a cast aluminium chassis. Nice price tag I should think!

  10. A Question,

I like the look and adjustable nature of these RC specialities items. But, what about the "noise reducing" aspect of these? They look to have a smaller volume and a bigger outlet (though it's hard to know from a photo) This might mean more noise than the standard or are these really good muffler/silencers too? What is your opinion as users?

I fly at a very noise sensitive location so this is a key issue.

    Thanks

  11. I was wondering the other day if I could think of a model glow engine for every size from .01 to 1.0 cubic inch capacity. Why I started this line of thought I don't know. I came up with lots, but there are plenty of gaps.

I bet there are lots of you out there who can fill in the gaps in my list!

  12. I have a problem with Ronseal Polyurethane varnish used as a fuelproofer. I have used it in the past OK but on my current model (BT Kingfisher) it is just going soft and sticky where the exhaust touches it. After only 7 flights. It just doesn't seem at all fuelproof.

I now have to work out how to get it off my model, and retreat with something that works.!! Any ideas for cleaning off the varnish without ruining the silver paint underneath??

  13. Thanks Dave,

I was looking at fitting a Saito 120 radial with 168mm diameter, so it may well just fit in OK! Given that it is heavier than a standard 91FS that may be a good thing to get the CG right. Power is about the same as the 91 though so should suit the model well. Thanks for taking the time to reply. Glad your model is still going strong

    David

  14. Hi Chris,

Thanks for your suggestion. However, I'd seen the vid and ruled out the H9 Corsair on the grounds of retracts! Whilst these are probably fine on tarmac and hard smooth surfaces. they don't do se well on bumpy grass! I was looking for a biplane or other model with a fixed U/C. My ideal would be the old SIG Waco SRE kit. But these are no longer available. Unless someone out there knows better!

    David

  15. I'm looking for a suitable model to put my Saito 120-R3 3 cylinder radial in. Power output is more akin to a 90FS than a 120FS. I'm obviously looking for a radial cowl scale model. I don't want the complication of retracts as I fly from a grass strip which is not perfectly smooth and flat. (I've seen too many retracts ripped out over the years). I fancy the Great Planes Waco, but at 13lbs and 72" span I feel it may be a bit too much for the Saito. I'd like to scale up a BT Kingfisher plan (as the cowl on the original 1.72 scale model is too small a diameter to hide the engine) but I'm not sure I'd ever get it done. Any other good ideas for a suitable model?

  16. Hi,Looking for a set of plans for the RCM&E Jack Swift 1/4 scale Taylorcraft. RC1589 - Taylorcraft Clipped Wing Cub.Had a set and built the model and now have lost/mislaid them! I need to do a wing repair and need the plans! Lots of scale plans I could swap. Thanks David
