  1. I have very little if no knowlege on elecs. So working out cell count for a said kit is beyond me. I have aquired from a friend 6 packs of good 5s 4200 packs because he no longer as a use for them. I have a trainer at the moment which uses 3s packs so its no go for that. I am building at the moment a Flair puppeteer Bi-plane which i intended to run IC with.I am now thinking of going electric with these cells. But i have no idea what the proper cell count should be.I am open to the motor and esc to suit the 5s packs. The weight of the kit is stated at 8lb/3.6kg.I could get a slightly smaller kit at 6lb/2.7kg if that is more suited to 5s packs. Any advice would be great.
  2. David, i thought mounting with head to left might give me more room.I did not take into account of the exhaust.learning stuff all the time now.I also thought that because the down and side thrust is built in i could mount the engine anyway with no probs.I also did not take into account that he prop must end up central!
  3. BEB,The plans which are not full size for forward fuselage and engine show a 2 stroke. There is a note saying that if 4 stroke is used it will be nessasery to let the engine into the fire wall.It even says not to worry about doing this and says it is plenty strong. Holding the 52 in situ as far back as possible with cowl jerry rigged shows lots of engine poking out. I have learned something today though,I have been working out where to cut the firewall to move back the engine and looking at the best way to mount the engine,up,down, left or right.Think this will not matter being that the bearers have the down and right thrust build it.Did not realise i have to end up with the shaft central in the cowl,so i have to of set the rear of motor.Avoided a mistake waiting to happen there at least.
  4. Dave thanks for the reply. The thing is that the magnatilla as no full size view of the fuz forward section.Full size rear lattice work and wings only.It only says to mount the engine with apx 15mm front cowl to prop driver. You are correct in the cowl bottom being cut away and to be honest i forgot about that! that will make the exhaust easier. when you mention mounting the engine on or under the bearers again i forgot about thrust directions, this is where i will make mistakes.i did not take into account flipping will alter the thrust, glad i asked. The bearers as standard point down and to the right and the small sketch on the plan shows the engine head on the left, looking from the front.so if i flip the engine over will this alter the thust?
  5. As you have may of guessed by my previous posts i am new to the forum,RC flying and building.Had my trainer for apx 8 months and the Magnatilla apx 8 days : ) I have confused things by already asking Q`s under the heading "magnatilla build" in my last post it was suggested i start a build thread to ask any Q`s there.Which i now think might be a good idea,i will even try to post some pics of progress BUT this is my first build so do not expect much. Can i just warn people that when seeing the "Magnatilla build blog" post to expect possible silly/basic questions,It is the "theory" that i lack greatly and the flyers how are helping me greatly to fly are no builders and have no interest in building. Any way here is my problem for today,Engine mounting, again! I know i have to move the SC52fs back to avoid loads poking out the front. This will involve cutting the firewall and boxing that in,know that much now.But doing some mock up i have couple options and i do not know which is best, one might even be completly wrong. I will stick with suppied bearers and cut to suit crankcase width but it seems i can mount the engine on top OR under the bearers,i will attach pictures. If i mount under the bearers it gets the head away from the cowl.If i mount on top the head is very close to the inside of cowl. Not sure if you get the real gap in the picture.

  9. CS,Being its my first build the chances are it will be hidious si i think best not to show myself up.Only been in the hobby for apx 8 months with a trainer so far.Building is all new to me.The prob i have is that i think i can do a ok job of actual building, its the things like adapting the firewall to move engine back.I have no experience to know if its best to mount the engine vert or lat, head to the left or right, how close can the head be to the inside of cowl, moving tank etc etc etc. This is the part i will struggle on.I might do as you say and start a magnatilla build thread and state that i will post any probs i have so at least people will know what to expect
  10. Sorry to ask basic questions again but this is my first build and while the actual building should be ok its the things like me needing to move the engine back into the firewall, for the 4stroke.I have marked the area i think needs to be gone but i now realise the box system that holds the beareres and tank will also get cut away.I think this will effect the tank postion also. How critical is the tank being right behind the motor in the box that sits in the 2 formers.
  11. Djay,That fix seems too good to be true, very simple. At the moment i am not able to get at the parts to have a rough measure BUT how much can you "add" before things look out of place? The second thing you touched on that i forgot to ask is prop cleance, not near the kit to confirm but i think "prop driver to cowl 15mm"was stated. The prop driver on the SC is not the thick knerled washer typr i have seen before,it more like a collet? how to i work distance out. Is your 1/8th clearance from thr back of the prop hub?
  12. Richard,Many thanks for the how-to and the picture,it really helps.I think i will go the same method as you discribe and not the wide chamfer on top TE piece like i drew. Looking at my plans there is a discrepincy in how much the ribs fall on the TE .I will need to move the TE forward somewhat to get the same gap.In your method is it best to have the ribs almost to the rear OR gap apx same as plan. Apx 5mm i think?
  13. Richard,You are correct in that part 50 is used in the centre section alone ,at the wing bolt. I would love to attempt scalloping but being my first build i might have to leave that,The funny thing is the plans show scallops and template for tail surfaces but nothing shown for wing! So can i just clear this up,for the Magnatilla at least.Do i chamfer for a thinner TE ,OR go with the flair Diagramme and butt leading to a thicker TE.apx double that of the chamfered,by my reckoning at least. I am about to attach another photo, sorry, just to make sure i get this pont across correct. The are arrowed with star will have minimal contact, corner edge to corner edge.would you run CA along that the sand both faces untill vertical/flat upright?

  15.   I am a new builder with a Flair Magnatilla kit.I am a new member with a couple of questions posted already about the Magnatilla but i think this is more general question on TE build up. I have seen a method where the top TE piece is chamfered to meet the bottom piece, this looks to me to end up with a TE the thickness of on strip due to the chamfer.I am going to attach a drawing so it makes more sense. But the palns for the Magnatilla show the two TE pieces with no chamfer at all and kind of "butt joinning" with little contact area. And this also gives a thicker TE because of the two full thicknesses of TE strip.Again i have attached a picture from the plan. Can anyone advice what is the correct OR prefered method method. If it is the second method like on the plan how is a good join made with so little contact area.It looks basically like two corners touching.
