You seem to have a good shape on that nose Harry. I'm not happy with mine yet. It looks OK from some angles but not from others. Might need to get he filler out again! I'm struggling with the tail shape too. It doesn't seem to be circular enough or tall enough at the rear to get that ramped bit right under the tailplane fairings and above the jet pipe. Or is that just my build?

Sabre made in Belgium

Yes very helpful. Do you put anything on the balsa before applying the resin Dirk? And is it necessary to try to do a whole fuselage side in one piece? Would it be ok to do the fin and tail area separately and have an overlap joint or two? (I've not done this before!) -
It is a relief when that last plank goes in! So I have now turned my attention to the pilot. I found this head on 'Thingiverse', and scaled him up to approx 1/10th. Unfortunately, he's not as tall as I need him, so he's being extended with a bit of 1/2inch balsa. Today I've been working on the wing seat area. I cut a bit more out of the fuselage sides to be sure that the wing was resting on the inner ply formers. I figured I can add it back later as 2 more planks. I also found that I had to sand the formers a bit to get everything to sit down nicely. Have now added the 2 front dowels.

Good to see you making progress again Harry. I see you've got a little 'Airfix' Sabre there in the background. You couldn't do me a few close up shots of the rear fuselage could you? I'm struggling with understanding how the jet pipe and the tailplane fairings come together! I've looked at various google images, but they just don't seem to be consistent.

I have now finished planking the top part of the fuselage, and fitted the elevator servo and hinge mechanism. Now turning my attention to how to create those tailplane fairings. I decided it might be easier (and maybe half a gram lighter) to construct them them 1/8th sheet rather than 1/2 inch solid balsa.

Yes it's a good philosophy Dirk. I do try to follow it myself. And I often find that a long hard week at work can re-energise my enthusiasm for building. I got the fuselage halves joined today. Former alignment was not perfect, but good enough I think. Phil - Yes I found the same thing - the front and back had sprung out a bit, and twisted a little, so needed a bit of clamping. I also found that I needed some big clamps in the middle - around F4 and F5. These will produce some nasty marks in the planking, but then there's going to be quite a lot of filler used on my fuselage to cover all the planking imperfections anyway!

I feel like time is slipping away and I'm not making much progress. Mid Feb already! After what seems like days of planking, I have 2 half planked fuselage sides. Don't look too closely! I've discovered that you shouldn't put short planks on the most curved areas around the nose - cos you end up having to double them up!

Just a quick progress report. I have pretty much finished the wing. I though I would leave the dowels and wing bolts until I can see better how it meets the fuselage. Mine is the very simple wing - no flaps, no drop tank drop mechanism. So today, I started on the first fuselage half. All seems to pretty straight-forward so far. I added some cockpit floors to try to stabilise F3 and F5 whilst fitting the stringers and planking. I'm not sure they're in the right place, but I figured I can always remove them later.
