Hi Clare,
Joining a club with an instructor is sound advise, the cost of joining a club and the BMFA is cheaper than having to repair or buy a new plane. If you can visit a club when they are flying and ask, watch who is flying. I started last year with a Multiplex easy cub, have a look on U tube it does fly well, I looked at a local club but they had a waiting list.
A friend who I race R/C cars with is an instructor a a club further away from where I live, however the time spent with an instructor is invaluable and I am now flying on my own, the easy cub is still in one piece and I have now just got a Century Riot to move up to when I have passed the "A" licence.
I like electric as they are clean and easy to setup.
Hope you get on well, it's great fun learning to fly.
Bob.
