  4. Hi Steve, pm sent.............. Bill
  5. That's the Dirty Birdy out then................. possibly the Curare too, though it's prob close to the limit on an 11 x 9. Hopefully can make it. Bill
  6. Sorry Steve, am away visiting my son & grandkids in S Wales.................... Hope to make at least one this year for a change! Regards, Bill

  8. Any date for May @ Retford? Bill
  9. Ahhh, good, I see the difference now. Middle photo I believe is Rich holding the model. Thanks for that! Bill
  10. As in the title, for occasional flying use; yes I'm aware of the relative performance/noise cf a modern APC! I have a couple of coarser MK props but they're more for a Longstroke engine, hence the size requirement. Anyone got one or more lying around? Regards, Bill
  11. Hey Giuseppe................... Those two models look a LOT like The Panzer D20 (AKA "Spitzpanzer", a Rich Brand design of the same era. Rich was also multiple SA and Rhodesian Champion in his day.................... Just thought it worth a mention! Bill
  12. 10mm sounds quite a lot on the ailerons, esp at high speed, I'd advise have a low rate also set, at say 60% in case it's a bit twitchy! Elev sounds about right, also might be good idea to have a lower rate selectable for initial flights. I set my PB Tornado up at 10mm on Ail's & it was quite twitchy, so added more expo & low rates at about 70% that's OK for now. Enjoy! Bill
  13. Don't know what's happened to the photo, was on last night!
  14. Photos on request as haven't yet figured how to post them here..............
  15. Reluctant sale as I've just bought ANOTHER Classic/Retro design so need space! Owned for about 18months, very nicely built & covered (was at the 2013 F of F Retro day). Classic Enya 60 fitted, as in the day, fitted with Webra .60 silencer so quieter than original. Nice & light at only 6 1/2 lbs RTF/dry. Servos are Spektrum DS 821's (4 off) plus Hitec on throttle. Approx 50 flights from new . Slight wrinkling on the black trim, otherwise in excellent condition. Very easy & docile to fly, I've had a lot of fun with it. A real classic from the late 1960's & a Contest-winner in its day. Sale includes plans, wood parts for fuselage sides and original engine box. Rx and Rx battery not included (currently on 2.4) Priced to sell, at £200   Bill Michie (01279) 504595 (Postcode CM23 4EN)   Edited By Bill Michie on 19/11/2014 17:53:47
  16. Just seen recently on your favourite auction site, from a guy in Somerset I believe: Several Retro/Classic models, many with engines & retracts, mostly .60 size & one .40-size, incl Flair Meteor & Icarus. Also, with a different seller, another H9 Phoenix 7 (possibly more than one?). In case anyone's interested. Bill
  17. Absorutery! Just bringing it to notice of our (CAA) Members that the GBR website now has a Forum that reflects many Members' interests. Hopefully it'll mean the expansion of the "Interest Base", to the benefit of all. PS: what "new Venture.........."? Best regards, Bill
  18. At last, after many fliers enquiring, the GBRCAA have now made a Forum available in their website. (Classic Pattern, down near the bottom of the list). This follows several different threads running on "Classic Pattern" subjects.............. There's room for all of us, hopefully the "cross-feeding" of information will benefit both Organisations............... Cheers to all. Bill
  19. You don't need to leave oil all over the airframe! Both my '70's models have piped 2-strokes, & providing there are no exhaust or carb leaks, and an exhaust deflector fitted, they stay remarkably clean. (I also hate oily, messy airframes!). Even my Kwik-Fli with an old .61/muffler leaves very little residue, mostly on the stab L/E....................... Ahhhhhh, don't get me going on Webras too! Bill
  20. Sam, are you comparing the ARF Curare/elec power, with your "trad" Magic................? Is, there's a VAST difference in weight/wing loading which will really skew the argument! I have the Dirty Birdy ARF which weighs 8 1/4 lbs with an old ST .61/pipe combo, & is a missile (but tracks like an arrow because of its wing loading); compared to the Schweighofer Curare ARF which weighs significantly less that 7lbs, it's a different class. The Curare ARF is great because you CAN fly it slower, though it also tracks well at high speed, just not as fast as the DB. Still love both models, but they DO fly differently. Also, the Magic's wing is MUCH thinner, & has a sharper L/E, not so? So designed to be best flat-out. Great thread! Bill
  21. Hi Terence, well done on a great project: You're obviously a "proper" builder, unlike me! One thing I noticed on your last photo though.............. The rudder pushrod has a substantial "Z" bend in the pushrod where it exits the fuz; I've done this in the past & found that the pushrod will very easily bend (sideways, ie in & out of the slot), which can in extreme cases, almost cancel out the required control action, ESPECIALLY under compression.............. in this case, left rudder input in flight would/could "blow back" the rudder by simply bending the pushrod. You can check if this will occur by holding the rudder servo with left rudder, then trying to straighten the rudder by hand. The last model I experienced this on was an unflown scale model I was generously Bequeathed, on which "up" elevator at speed would have completely unloaded the elevators by compressing/bending the pushrod! (& it's a fast model). Needless to say, I modified the pushrod by stiffening & adding guides, before flying.................... Just a thought so that, if necessary, it can be sorted at this early stage (stiffer wire, much smaller Z bend, even a heavy-duty "snake" pushrod etc.) Best regards & keep up the good work! Bill
  22. Heads-up guys................. re Barkston events: I've just seen on GBRCAA website, two Pattern events having to be cancelled, as "the licence has been withdrawn for casual users..............."; this apparently includes the F of F event 7-8th June but not the Nationals in Sept; but "may" affect our Retro Nats. Pls can the "powers that be" have a lookie as it may well affect our calendar. Ta. Bill
  23. Oh BTW, also saw a Phoenix 7 ARTF on Fleab*y, don't know if it's sold yet..................
