  1. Posted by PatMc on 20/07/2016 23:16:28: I find these a boon. Also worth buying some spare adapters in the same order - but at the moment the tool with adapters are listed at less than half price ! Pat, thank you very much indeed for posting that!
  2. Thanks gents - in particular to Mr Bott for those links
  3. What can I use by way of a switch or whatever between LiPo and ESC so as to easily and positively disconnect the power to the motor? Max draw 20A and weight isn't an issue. Question arises from a combination of arthritic fingers, tight XT60 connectors and an earnest wish to avoid digit damage ...
  4. Thanks very much for that Steven. I phoned Axminster about it and after talking the issue through with a very helpful bod on their technical staff, I'm now waiting for an exchange complete longitudinal stop assembly, which they have in stock. First time in 20-odd years as an Axminster customer I've had to use their customer service, and I'm very impressed indeed. Even the phone call was free
  5. I had a feeling the guard would be a PITA and it surely is but nevertheless I am well pleased with my new Proxxon FET saw. However ... Is it me, or what? If I slacken the locking lever for the longitudinal stop, then tighten the yellow knurled knob, shouldn't that lock the stop to the scale on the front of the saw, so that moving the scale moves the stop with it? However I look at this and whatever I try, the pressure pad doesn't even contact the scale, never mind lock to it.! PS Also, what's that curious symbol about on the face of that pressure pad?
  6. Thanks gentlemen. Steve, I do have a copy of that manual, thank you - but I still can't see where it answers my question ...
  7. I've never been sure what's reckoned to be the "proper" height to set the blade on a tabletop circular saw for cleanest cut. Is it top of blade just through the material, or what? If it makes any odds, this is a Proxxon with 80mm TCT blade.
  8. I'm getting nowhere trying to find the answer to this from the obvious places to look, so ... If I wish to mount a Proxxon FET table saw onto a board which is 2" each way bigger than the footprint of the saw with the side extension thingy out all the way, how big does my board want to be?
  9. Very interesting, gents. Thank you. At least I know now that it isn't the straightforward question with an obvious answer that I thought maybe it was ...
  10. All other things being equal, which of these will give me best speed flat out? 8 x 4 8 x 4.7SF 8 x 4 3-blade And what's the reasoning behind the answer?
  11. Thanks Pete. II just edited my post to read "pusher". I knew my brain hurt from trying to work out why that might not be all I needed to do... Good point about the locknut, Donald.  Thanks! Edited By Spikey on 07/07/2016 15:08:55
  12. If I wish to build a model in which the prop is mounted behind the motor (i.e. a pusher) and the direction of motor rotation is immaterial, do I need a pusher/reverse prop? Or can I just turn an ordinary prop round on the shaft? Edited By Spikey on 07/07/2016 15:04:39
  13. I'm now using a standard snake for the very first time and because it got here in a Jiffy bag, it wants to stay bent. Is there a magic way to straighten it?
  14. Can't find my micrometer, but in any case isn't all stranded wire nowadays metric - as in "14/0.2" is 14 strands each of 0.2mm diameter, and so forth? Anyhow, at least I now know it's called silicone wire Edited to add - I've just answered my own question.  Apparently stranded wire is specified as 14/0.2, 32/0.2 and so on, unless of course you're American or talking about something pitched primarily at the US market, like multi-stranded wire used in RC models ... Back to hunting for the mic ... Edited By Spikey on 10/06/2016 13:16:36
  15. Good thinking, Matty. Now to see if I can remember where I put the mic ...
  16. Can somebody please tell me what the spec is for the leads typically used on small motors of the D2826 / D2836 type? I need to make them a bit longer!
  17. Ah, nice one Simon. Thanks. I'll check that tomorrow for sure
  18. Not sure I understand your post Colin but thanks anyways. Plug is right way round. I'll get on to the supplier.
  19. I've never had a problem with the 6-channel Lemon Spektrum-compatible RX's before, so I guess I'm just having brain failure with these two new ones Bind plug in, ESC lead to "Throttle" pins, power "on", then with TX 2 metres away from RX, switch TX on with "bind" switch held on. RX LED flashes quickly, then goes out, then comes back on flashing slower, then goes out. Beeping from TX unchanged throughout. No way can I get a steady LED and a dialogue going, so what am I doing wrong please chaps? Edited By Spikey on 28/02/2016 17:57:54
  20. Ah, I didn't realise it's a standard blade type! Thanks. I'll get on to Ebay then BTW, I do have a selection of Swann-Morton and X-acto scalpels/knives, but I find this one very useful (and very cost-effective) for straight cuts in 3mm Liteply.
