RAF's Finest Biplane? Hawker Fury MkI
Nev replied to Mike Etheridge 1's topic in Hawker Fury Mk 1 - RAF's Finest Biplane!
Hi. I would like to have a bit of a look at a plan. Does anybody have a link to one available, especially as it doesn't look like I am going to get the one I paid for. I think the one above points to a different version, or am I missing something. Nev. -
Looking good Colin. Surprising how a little paint makes all the difference and gives you a sense of the finish line. Nev.

RAF's Finest Biplane? Hawker Fury MkI
Nev replied to Mike Etheridge 1's topic in Hawker Fury Mk 1 - RAF's Finest Biplane!
Hi. I imagine there are a lot of ribs, so a cut set would be a bonus in any medium. I have never built anything using light ply ribs, so haven't really got a lot to go on. My only experience would be an ARFT, which was well built, very light and flew great, until I eventually did something silly too close to the ground. At that point it completely crunched up and with so little wood no chance to repair. I assume these wings are not sheeted in any way, if that's the case my preference would be balsa or maybe flying lessons. Nev. -

The amount if time I actually fly Dave I don't think it will matter. I love building and I have to fly them or I wouldn't consider a project finished but once they've flown successfully including a bit of trimming and feteling then I lose interest. I was considering packing it in, only because I'm running out of storage space, but including the scale details extends the build process, so win win. The downside with yellow is it an absolute *** to get an even paint job. Nev. -

Nice find Colin Maybe a bit boring but I actually like the yellow trainer scheme with the polished cowel. Nev -
RAF's Finest Biplane? Hawker Fury MkI

Hi. Fingers still crossed but if we don't get our parts then I'm still willing to Cary on. I'm happy to cut my own parts, just thought I would have enough to do with all the metal bits, which is why I ordered the wood pack. I'm sure I could vac form a spinner, there's a new challenge for a start, maybe even a cowl but that's a long way off. I will need a good copy of a plan though and that I will need help with. I have seen offers of help and am grateful as I know this will all mean a lot of work for somebody they haven't bargained for. Nev. -

Craig I’m happy to be corrected. I wish everyone that works there well and hope they have a job to go back too. On a selfish note. I’m sure, if allowed, they will try and fulfil any orders already placed but we will see. Nev. -

I ordered my parts a week ago, Craig estimated then it would be 3 weeks to get everyone's parts out, I was No 8, so I wasn't expecting anything yet. I think they sub out the manufacturing, so it will depend on their suppliers, cut parts, cowl etc. whether they're confident of getting paid or not as to whether they get made. Traplet I think print the plans. Nev. -
Almost flying Colin. Looking good in the sun. Nev.

Hi, l'd like to have a go at this so put my name in. Always fancied building a hart or hind but a fury is close enough. Never built a biplane, so in at the deep end as they say. Nev. -
Get a big magnet and sweep the carpet with it, it's my go to method for finding tiny screws. If you've just forgotten wher you put it, then that's anther matter. No hope for you there I'm afraid, we're all in that boat. Nev.

Hi all, thanks for the comments. Nearly finished all the building jobs and got the base silver on, so time for a bit of bench flying. It will never be as detailed as some of the other builds but I think I have got a few of the basics that make it a Chipmunk. Just the internal cockpit framework to make and a chap in the front. The other reason to put the cockpit and cowl on was to try and mark up for the rest of the painting, stripes etc. if anybody has any tips on hand painting big roundels and lettering, please let me know. More soon. Nev.

That's more like it Colin. 2nd fuselage looks more like it for indoor flying, not that I know anything about it. Nev.

Nice one Martyn. I've followed your build all along. I did think you were going a bit over the top with the lightness but obviously not. I'm intrigued to give this a go myself but maybe not under the same time pressures. I will have to have a think about suitable types. Good luck with the comp, hope you enjoy it. Nev.

Brian Taylor Spitfire 69" - build only
Nev replied to Nigel Day's topic in Building from Traditional Kits and Plans
Looking good that Nigel. Little bit at a time that’s the secrete and stop while you’re in front. Nev. -
You wait till you see the next bit. It’s probably fair to say I have been putting this bit off. But I committed quite early on to have a go at the side opening hatch that Danny showed. I glued the stiffening bands in well over a year ago but just didn’t want to face cutting up the cowl. I was convinced it would weaken it too much. I only cut down the hinge line first, I figured I might stand a better chance of getting it all back together again straight if I didn’t cut the hatch out completely. But now I have access. Bit more work to do yet, magnets to keep it closed I think, but it’s a lot more ridged than I thought it was going to be. Be flying in the summer at this rate ! Nev.

Hi. I haven’t updated for a while but I now have the wings finished. These are fiddley little things. Don’t really like these hinges but it’s too late now. All in and working. No rib tapes on the bottom but I’m glad I had a go on the top. Nev.
