  1. Thanks Pete, Yes, that is the thread. I lost track of it but did think of messaging him to see if he was interested in doing my two v2s for me. Not sure it is worth the trouble though when weighed up with the cost of new A3s. Much better to invest in something that works well.... I did mean to say that one of my V2s is much smoother (less jittery) than the other. There seems to be no consistency in the manufacture. Doug   Edited By Panther on 02/05/2013 10:30:00

  3. At present I am recovering from my second laminectomy and have managed to get out flying a couple of times again. Seems this is all part of life for old aeromodellers from what I read so at least you don't need to feel left out....
  4. Pete. I see some clever fellow has learned that the V2 can be reprogrammed. On doing so the original program is lost and cannot be restored, however I don't consider that to be a downside. The mods actually give you forward and reverse on the gain pots so the dip switches don't have to be switched to reverse the servos, and the switches are used for other tasks making the whole gyro a totally new entity in itself. From all accounts it is a very successful mod but sadly the reprogramming is beyond my comprehension. I can't remember which site I saw this on now but I am sure a search would find it. I myself am now using the Eagle A3 Pro and am getting another one of them or the JCX-M6 which is similar but a little more refined. Very pleased with the A3 Pro so far as it has 3D as well and still only around $30 mark. Loved your story. Cheers Doug
  5. I bought a new 9x back in November '12. It came with a 8 ch receiver and was only about $50.00. I have flown it numerous times but felt something lacking with it. While trying to program it for a Gyro I found the Pit Trim Potentiometer was jittery. I was going to use that channel for gain adjustment, however I just used Hov Throttle pot instead. ( I actually opened the pot and found a bubble on the track.) I had thought of using this radio in my T28 Trojan that at present is using an Optic 6 system, but the channel setup just didn't allow me to do what I wanted. I kept thinking of all those useless (to me) helicopter potentiometers fitted to the 9X and wishing they were more versatile. Now I don't want to upgrade this to ER9X as I am happy with the program as it is but even if I did upgrade it I am still stuck with those pots. Brainwave....!! Rip out the dud pot and replace it with a switch. I opened the back up and measured the pot resistance, (5K Ohms) and at center 0 Ohms. I needed a switch and two 2.5k Ohm resistors and some heatshrink. I rummaged around and found a new switch but out of all my resistors I had, no 2.5k ohms. Hmmm. What to do. Then I remembered I had a computer power supply board under the bench and viola! there were three 2.5k ohm resistors on the board. The switch had 3 contacts so I soldered a resistor on each of the outer contacts (black wire and red wire) and the brown wire direct to the center contact on the switch. All done. Put it back together and switched on, all good. Set up receiver and servos and programmed Pit Trim to ch8 and woohoo I have a true extra channel that I can use by flicking a switch.  I checked that the servos were not binding at the ends but there was plenty of room for them to overshoot. I can now use all 8 channels on the receiver and have made it a (to me) a much more useable system as I will not be using it for helicopters ever. I may even change Hover Throttle pot to a switch yet, maybe a 3 position sw for flaps or whatever. I use the current 3 pos switch for Gyro 2D 3D so another 3 position switch would be great. I am not a technician just an old retired child but at the price of these Systems I wasn't too frightened to give it a go. Cheers     Edited By Panther on 18/04/2013 11:17:38

  11. Ever consider a Gyro to assist when it is windy? I wouldn't be without one now. Just make sure you have somebody to grab the plane before it blows away after touchdown. Much more pleasant on a calm day though for sure.
  12. This has been occurring for several years. I got one about 3 years ago and ignored it but didn't use PayPal again for a long time. When it came time to reuse it, everything worked fine so now I never leave any funds in the account as a safety measure.

Unfortunately, this doesn't seem to be the case generally! Years ago this wasn't the case as the manufacturer showed the collet to be inserted into the grommet from the top, however, now that most self tappers have a built in washer type head, the reverse is correct. Collet up from the bottom. Personally I don't think it matters a darn.
  14. Ahhhh the good old Jetex. LOL I remember mine flying around with the fuselage burning and it WOULDN"T COME DOWN so I could put it out. You are right. They rarely fired up as they were supposed to.
  15. Sounds like you are nearly there. With the 2 motors you have a lot of weight out front. Try it but I would be inclined to go nearly to the front of the ply plates you have them mounted on. Second thoughts, to save a lot of work, fit a small wedge shaped piece of ply under the dural to tip the wheels forward, thin bit to the front of course.   17. Hi Martin. No, I wasn't wealthy at all. I worked as a apprentice mechanic on a pathetic wage and gave up smoking to buy British Postal Orders each week. I lived in New Zealand back then. Also did overtime to earn extra money. I think determination was the key. The servos were white and were called S4Bs from memory. I see in Kellys post above a Webra mentioned. I had a 1.5 diesel Webra and still have fond memories of that too. It was a fantastic motor but not for R/C of course. I had a few free flight planes back then too. I lived on a farm so had plenty of flying space. Thanks for the links.
  18. A good idea, just order a card with your new ESC. They are cheap. I use Turnigy Trust ESCs and one program card does about 3 different sizes eg 45a, 55a and 70a.

  20. I wonder if anyone would have a picture of the Blue Max Radio set (late 1960s) that I started with. Sold by Mick Wilshire from memory and maybe World Engines? It was a baulky TX and the servo centreing left a lot to be desired, but I managed OK until I got a Skyleader set. It was black and had a big blue Iron Cross on the front of it. The receiver had fly-leads and plugs were sealed with silicone rubber. First time I ever saw the stuff and it fascinated me. Just a nostalgia thing. I flew my Super 60 with it.
