  14. I know I have a couple of Hitec HS255 somewhere in my workshop, and I planned to use them in the Ballerina, but after looking for them for the last 20 days, I've decided to buy other two... The mess is more expensive...

You asked for it!! Peter, I see that I'm in the right path to become a great designer and builder: my workbench looks almost as "professional" as yours
  16. Posted by John Milne on 04/02/2016 12:33:13: it seems to take four or five cycles of "where is it ?" "search, search, search", "find it", "put it back again" before I develop a mental index of where everything is Regards John Lucky you, only four or five... My problem is that is takes much more than that, and once the place sticks in my (limited) grey matter, I change the place, and back again to cycle one...
  17. John, this mini Ballerina looks cute, and your workshop, well, my living room uses to be more messy than this!!
  18. Posted by steve york on 03/02/2016 13:11:09: As someone who works with a group doing the science on Graphene lets just say I won't be buying one anytime soon. Give it a few more years. Hi Steve Could you please elaborate a bit more? Is it about security or performance your concern? If you have been somehow involved, I think that your input could be highly appreciated
  19. In my opinion (and this is just my opinion), it's not all about the power but also about the torque. A powerful engine with low torque will make the model fly faster, and considering that these models must already be fast "by nature", maybe the last thing that you want is this. I'm an IC modeler, but I believe that for the cases you mention, maybe modern electric setups would fit better...

Hahaha, yes, I suppose you're right. It's always a gamble to bet on the "new kids on the block" (I never liked their songs, btw...). I remember I bough a DL 50cc around 2007, when they were just DL and not DLE, and they were packed in corrugated cardboard boxes with no letters outside. The result was very good and at half the price of a DLE 55 three years later, but it might had worked either way...

    Torqpro engines

Well, I've found this thread on RC Groups. Not a lot of information and no test so far, I'll subscribe and see if there's any update (last post from November...). There's some technical info related to the design of the engine, but I'm not an expert to know whether this is good or not. Maybe some of the engine gurus here could have a look and comment on that?...

Thanks Bob, actually this is where I found the advert. I'll have a look in the forums and see what's there Thanks!

    Torqpro engines

Hi all Just by chance I found these engines surfing on internet. They look nice but we know that with an engine is not about how they look but how they perform, and I haven't found anything, other than their own comments. The things is that a 4 st 70 cc petrol for a bit more than 400 quid, sounds quite appealing, although for the same reason, it may be "appalling" in the end... Has anybody heard anything about these guys?
  24. I think this is a good initiative from BMFA, although I'm on the "non-bureaucratic" side. When I was in the university, I had to learn the content AND the form, i.e. the articles where such content was declared, but I was meant to be a lawyer, so the articles were my "tools-of-the-trade". In this case, even if it's only four articles, which probably most people would be able to memorize, I don't see any added value for an aeromodeller to know what the number of these articles are. He would only need that in case he committed a non-compliance and had to defend his position before authorities or even the Court, but in that case the average aeromodeller would look for the support of a lawyer or similar specialist in the area (I would do!). So, I still no added to value. Some people have given some good examples, but I'd like to add one more: there's an EU Customs legislations that applies to all EU member states. In the UK there's also a "local" Customs legislation. All this legislation is available from Official bulletins etc, but HM Revenue & Customs, to make life easier, published something called "Public Notices" and "Customs Information Papers". These are NOT the law and cannot be used as support to any claim / reclaim, but they are very useful manuals for day to day operations, to ensure that people know what they have to do to do the things right. The law (the article numbers, regulation number etc...) is used by the specialist when addressing queries, claims etc to Customs authorities. Similarly, the average aeromodeller has this manual, the BMFA handbook (and the CAP 658 apparently...), and in my opinion, what he has to demonstrate to an examiner is that he understand the security requirements in the legislation, because this is what he has to keep in mind when flying a model, and not whether the specific security requirement is stated in article 137 or 138. These security requirements are (should be) reflected in the BMFA handbook, hence the additional questions for the certificate should be related to the handbook, and not directly to the law, i.e. article number of such and such regulation (let's leave this to the specialist, after all they have to make money...  In summary, good initiative but maybe too "formal" approach...
