  1. Thanks for all the help so far the plans are on **LINK** , if you scroll down the page, it is the Howard Hughes Engineering Lightwing. (30" model) " This is a larger aileron servo than you will use, but the principle is the same. This is the easy way to do it. The metal push rod connects to the servo arm by means of a Z bend. You can buy special pliers to do this. I'm a fan, not everyone is! " would this system wrk for my sized plane. and if so what are all the parts called and how many of each would i need. Thanks again Ashley
  2. it is that plane, i am going to use an electric motor rather than glow. I was recommended to use **LINK** as it is a budget rx/tx with 6 channels i do believe that the link you included didn't have a diagram on it for the 'closed loop' connctions though thanks will consider placement of servos, but if i put the battery forward and the motor is at the front, wouldn't tey balance the plane out?
  3. it is a howard hughes engineering lightwing, it has ailerons, elevator and rudder, the plan doesnt show where the servos are located or if there are 2 servos for the ailerons or just the one. I will prob. have one each side if i can find out how to connect them and the servos for the elevator and rudder will prob be located inside the back of the fuselage thanks
  4. am going to be building a high wing trainer with rectangular wings. havnt got any pictures as i havnt started building it yet what other information do you want, being new to the hobby i dont know what information would help
  5. I am building a balsa wood rc plane with a 762mm wing span. I was wondering how you connect the servos to the control surfaces. I have heard you can use "snakes" but am not aware of what they are or how you would use them. I am looking at using servos like the Turnigy TG9e micro servos if that makes any difference. All help gratefully recieved as are any diagrams, due to the fact i am new to the hobby and dont really have a clue. Thanks Ashley
  6. I don't have a radio or anything however I do have a battery charger which takes AA and AAA batteries. The plan doesn't come with any guidance as to what electronics should be fitted. Thanks to everyone so far who has posted. I will try and find out more details about the plan. Thanks
  7. Thanks, Am planning tobuild a balsa wood, howard hughes engineering lightwing. It has a wing span of 30 inches (762mm) and is 369mm long. My planned weight is 130g before electronics. It has rectangular wings that are about four and a half inches wide. It is a high wing trainer/sport plane and was planning to have 4 channels-aeillerons, rudder elevator and throttle. It is 1:13.06 scale to the prototype and the plans I have are made by' Derek Buckminster' I have a budget of around £70 to £80 pounds for the whole plane and have sourced the balsa and hinges for £12 so have maximum £70 left to spend on the electronics and other bits such as landing gear. Thanks Ashley
  8. Being new to rc planes, I was wondering if anyone could inform me of any good set ups for electronics on a small budget. I found that lipo batteries are quite dangerous and didn't want to waste my money on anything that may break or explode just after buying it. As i understand it i need to buy: -a battery -an ESC and -four servos Thanks Ashley
  9. I just printed out the plans, link above, and found they had come out as 2 A4 pages ( 1 per section-wings and fuselage). Does anyone know how to print them out bigger, 200% of original, so I would have 2 A4 pages for each section? Thanks Ashley
  10. thanks for this tim, also how do the servos wrok and how do you connect them to the control surfaces?
  11. I am looking at scratch building an electric balsa wod plane, with the plans from **LINK**, and was wondering how the control surfaces are attached. Being a complete beginner I have no idea except what I have seen online about hinges?????? Please can someone help Thanks Ashley
  12. Thnaks for the advice, I will look at the "First Step" as for tools, my dad used to work on his tools so we have a shed full of them, shouldn't have a problem there. as for the power source, I think I will make it electric as it is apparently cheaper and easier. In september, I am planning on going to see a relative, who flies rc planes, to trim the plane. once again thanks to all that posted
  13. I have just bought a RC Model World Magazine, Issue 351(April 2013) which contains the plan for a "Twice Sized Mars X2 R/C Conversion" and was wondering if, as I have the plans, whether this would be a good plane to build. Thanks
  14. I am doing my Gold DofE and am planning to build a RC Plane for my skills section. I am looking at doing a balsa plane from plans. As it will be my first plane, I was wondering if anyone could offer me advice on choosing the plans to buying the wood and electronics. I have a budget of around £100 but may be able to push it to £150 ( as I have no idea of the prices of the electronics) Thanks Ashley
