  1. Just acquired a 1971 nebular kit wow that's old still seems to be in good shape it's a tough tail but I want to put servos in the fin for rudder and elevator not in the body.of course weight in the tail can mean a big lump up front to compensate. I reckon a months build should see it done but after 46 years of lying in a box will it stay in one piece when flown
  2. Borrowed a couple of servo,s from my rather poorly super kinetic 815 to get the axn back in the air everything seems fine flew off the orme last week and had a cheeky session on the beach at colwyn bay late in the evening so a fairly empty beach at low water so enough space. It does seem the axn needs a lot of room to land as it floats forever especially when there is not much wind. Question can I use the airlerons as flaps as two servos connected to one channel with a y harness. 6 channel tx and rx however I am using a cheap hobbyking tx a T6-V2 you can programme it of a laptop with the supplied tpconfig programme but it is pain in the bum. I presume I ditch the y harness and have to plug each servo into a separate channel but not sure what to do from there.
  3. Up the great orme again yesterday east winds so no launching of the slopes. had about two hours flying onto the third battery when AXN went into a death spiral and smacked into the long grass. Picked up the plane no response from transmitter unplugged battery replugged no response from left wing servo locked into fully up everything else worked. Nose a bit bent and a couple of cracks in body. Nose fixed by pouring boiling water onto it wet and dry to smooth out the bubbles. Will have to borrow a two servo,s from another project. Lucky really as not flying off the cliff edge. Why do hoobyking supply crap electronics in their aircraft as the basic builds are fine the AXN does have a range of performance and will slope soar or race around if given some beans with the motor..
  4. Probably should put this elsewhere on a different section but I am still a novice. Out on the great orme yesterday morning quite early oh poo east wind and quite strong so no chucking the axn off the slopes so used the open ground at the top of the tank tracks. All did not go well at first as I had taped a carbon spar to the tail after last week landing where I had bent the tail but not creased it.First two flights no real elevator response and wouldn,t climb. Landed scratched head and thought the ends of the tail look to be pointing down and maybe acting as down elevator. Removed spar put the tape on the top surface of tail and then added 100 gms of ballast as wind was getting quite strong. Flew like a dream up and away down wind turns were a bit scary and shutting motor at height was able to glide around for quite a while smooth lift but a bit windy. However the AXN will handle some wind try again next week when work lets me and the good lady fills gives her permission....
  5. Thanks all for the advise will look into obtaining insurance
  6. Purchased an AXN floater some 4 months ago and unlike the Bixler 3 which met its death on the beach barely has a mark on it after three months of flying. Flew today on the Gt Orme quite early 8 to 10 sw to w wind. Not much motor required as getting braver and launching closer to the edge of the slope but still far enough back in case of aborted take off. 3 15 minute flights only using motor when I botched the turns or trying to turn right. For some reason I hate turning right and seem to lose height . Still pretty new to rc flying and the old brain and thumbs still go into meltdown quite easily. Impressed with the AXN,s ability to float around on the lift from the wind or slope will go o quite fast if given throttle and would be quite acrobatic in the right hands but not mine to afraid to do anything clever. I don,t belong to a club and have no real desire to do so and be governed by a lot of rules especially as I would not meet the clubs or BMA flight standards. Spring is here almost so will continue to go to the orme after work shifts as I work in Llandudno or when the Wife and kids let me.
