  3. I shall be attending the Saturday, although my Dawn Flyer won't be ready by then for me to show with the rest, don't have my 'A' yet so could not fly it anyway. But I am looking forward to seeing all the other mass builds and some flying action so my camera may be busy. Also would be good to meet and put faces to some of the names on here as you have been so helpful with my first build etc. I will be easily spotted as the little excited dumpy one with the c47 Dakota tee shirt on. see you Saturday
  4. Started varnishing the fus. First coat on.

  6. Some great shots there, I attended the show and took loads of pictures that I will upload when I have chance, however somehow I didn't get any pictures of the Great War team which is a shame as I plan to build a Junkers CLI next and could have got ideas from them. so if you have any more of the CLI then I would love to see them.
  7. Posted by john stones 1 on 12/06/2014 20:44:32: I use plywood Darren, hardwood always splits for me because it's such a small piece. John i learnt a valuable lesson. when dealing with a small piece of wood drill pilot holes first.
  8. having trouble mounting the wing servos to ply mount. I added some hard wood supports to screw the servo into but as soon a screwed into them they split. not good. now i have to make some more and find a stronger wood for the mounting
  9. Posted by john stones 1 on 10/06/2014 20:33:34: Shape those pieces of balsa you infilled wingseat with level...horizontally, then it'll be o.k. John Would that not then lower the wing
  10. questions, questions. I have trimmed my wing so it will sit snug in the gap in the fuselage as discussed. however when it rests on the wing supports it is not flat i.e. the supports slop away from the wing meaning only minimal contact is made with the wing spars and and the flat bottom of the leading edge etc. is this correct ?
  11. Oh that's a surprise I would have guessed the leading edge because the trailing edge is already a thin piece. so I should line up the wing to get it centred and then trim to seat it correctly before fitting the locating dowel and wing bolt mounting.
  12. Needs a bit of trimming as it does not fit. Do I add the centre covering first or trim it as it is. And do I trim the leading edge ?
  13. Yes it looks like a plane so proud of my achievement so far

BEB Struggling to find a CL1 plan, seems that its not a popular built model. I saw some replicas with the great war display team yesterday. These were based on a fly-baby conversion adding a second seating area for the rear gunner and some Mercedes engine details and guns to the cowl. might have to do this myself and use a fly-baby plan and modify a little. challenging but I think the mods would be simple enough for me to attempt as I don't think the will change the planes basic shape etc. This looks like an ideal donor **LINK**
  16. David What a stunning model. I don't think mine will be that big. I think I am going to use the tony nijhuis plan for my model although the 72" span is still bigger than I would have liked.

Then by the time she's finished the flying skills will be ready as well. Remember, its a hobby, you're under absolutely no requirement to work to anyone's schedule other than your own! BEB Yes I guess your right, but I want to build a Junkers Cl1 first if I can find a decent plan. Then I will turn my hand to the Dakota. I flew last weekend for the first time in months and was surprisingly in control of my rather tame trainer. So I was impressed that the sim stick work had paid off. I love the build process and will be building a fair few models over time I guess, but I need to also concentrate my efforts on learning to fly proficiently and getting my A licence so I can join you all in the air at Greenacres next year.
  18. Posted by john stones 1 on 08/06/2014 21:47:47: It'll be right Darren Don't forget to fit aileron servo leads like I did John Yes that's an easy mistake I will have to watch out for
  19. Oh yes not sure my building skills are up to the job yet though, and my flying skills definitely are not Edited By Darran on 08/06/2014 23:00:11
