  1. High Will-o The one I am working on is 3 meters with a separate wing sliding onto each side of the fuselage. The main problem I currently face is that there are a few mechanical levers and two pull pull wires in the area where one might just push the connectors into the fuse! The fuselage sits in between the wings. However, the reason for starting this thread is to have a common pool for all those clever ideas that our hobby seems to spawn. The larger gliders will certainly need these arrangements. Go With the Flow Bruce
  2. I'm looking for some of those clever ideas for plugging in servo leads for a glider with separate removable wings please. Potential issues as I see it. 1 plugs coming loose mid flight. 2 Constant plugging in unplugging creating potential loose connections 3 Needs to be easily accessible If we can sort these out they are definitely modelling money savers!!! OK Mr Moderator, apologies in advance, maybe there is an existing thread so please bump this if you need to. Go With the Flow Bruce
  3. Wow, mightypeesh Now that tail feather servo mounting arrangement is a radical shift in thinking. Does this not tend to make it a bit tail heavy??? I am a relative new comer to the thermaling sport, so am open to all directions of thought. My thinking was to try to keep all the weight (servos and battery, Rx and esc), under the wing location. That way the tail stays pretty lightweight, and easy to see when a thermal twitches it??? I am not presenting any opinions here, so I apologise if that's what comes across. I am certainly open to all schools of thought. Lets face it, this thread is now miles long, and I have read it right from the start, and have learnt a fantastic amount from all the contributors. I'll be curious to follow any other observations on your set up. Go With the Flow Bruce
  4. Hey John sounds like you are having a struggle. I heard of a few others who were having a hard time with the prop blades and the canopy. Simplest solution for me, if not particularly elegant, is a velcro strap half way along the canopy, just past the reach of the folded prop. Sure, it does not look particularly beautiful on the ground, but at fifty feet you don't see it , and it's even less visible at 750 feet!!! The prop doesn't jam and the 2836 1000 NTM motor hasn't burnt out after six months. I just go and fly it! Found a few thermals yesterday and the Red Kites that flew along side didn't seem to mind the velcro either!!! Go With the Flow Bruce
  5. Hi There Dave I think I got confused which Forum I was looking at, Sorry about that, but here's where to look. RCGroups Phoenix 2000. That thread is now overly large but full of lots of useful ideas about tweaks and mods . Go to page 342 and start at report 5126. There's a nice sequence of pics and supporting explanations about the ruler If you can keep the RX/servo wiring above the servo tray, then there is no risk of damaging any wiring when pulling the lipos out and in! I can actually slide the battery under the actual servos (Zippy 2200 compact) There's a lot of P2K stuff that is a very useful read. I stumbled on it this time last year while it was only at the pages 200 or so. I then bought the PNF version and have learnt a ton since then. I fly both the 2000 and the 1600 versions Go With the Flow Bruce
  6. Gee David How did you survive this long without the Phoenix. I was out yesterday afternoon, flat field flying 8mph breezes. seemed a bit stronger at times around 700ft (HK altimeter) managed some gliding around up to twenty minutes, down to fifty feet between power bursts. (1800 lipo, yes I,know that's too heavy, will press the button for some 1300s one of these fine days) I am still learning, but each day discover something extra. The local Red Kites fly alongside and demonstrate my errors, by echoing my too slow turn tip stall, with their turn and flap of wings to keep them stable. Won't be much longer before the thermals are back. Fingers crossed for your speedy and safe delivery. Go With the Flow Bruce
  7. Hi Dave and John I recommend the simple, but clever, battery under the wing solution, using the velcro and plastic ruler method. It's tucked into this thread much earlier. It works for me. Go With the Flow Bruce
  8. Hi Mart49, Thank you for that info. The only reason that I am using these heavier lipos is that they is all I have at present. Now that I am "refining" my techniques and seeing some positive improvement, I will certainly take up your advice on lighter batteries. I am using an HK altimeter for recording heights and durations. It is often said that "if you can't measure it, then you can't manage it". This is just so true. (It's a bit like my budget too) Go With the Flow Bruce
  9. Hi there Chrispy I am flying my P2K with C of G at 85 mm from the leading edge. I can use either a Zippy 1800 or 2200 3S in the exact same location. At this C of G it is quite twitchy, but floats really well and you can easily observe lift when a thermal drifts through. In breezes over 8 or 9 mph it needs to be slightly more forward to maintain some direction, I have found. Go With the Flow Bruce
  10. Hi Guys, sorry if this should not be a new thread I am happy to be redirected to where ever,. I have posted the below into a couple of threads, and so far, have not yet got the guiding, or should I say "gliding" responses that I am hoping for. I am relaunching to see If I can find some lift. So, same old question but five years on. Which DLG ??? I currently fly a Phoenix 2000 and also the 1600 version. I am having fun finding and hanging around in the Thermals and updrafts. So I'm contemplating an entry level (i.e. inexpensive) 1500 DLG with ailerons and flaps. I've read a lot about the libelle, both the pros and the cons. I am also looking at what HobbyKing has on offer. Yes, I've heard the comments that you get what you pay for. I reckon that I have had great value and learning on those Phoenix models for very little money, and I would recommend them to anyone wanting to get into gliding. So now you know about my way of thinking. Practical and cheap gliding. Can the nice people on this forum make some recommendations please. I have access to flat field and to slopes. 11. Hi there guys, Hope we are all finding a few of these Spring thermals springing up!!!! Apologies Mr Moderator for this more or less or off topic. Please toss it out to where it belongs. I posted this on another thread but the previous post was five years ago, and understandably nobody has been back except me a couple of days ago. I'll pop it in here and then please redirect as appropriate. So, same old question but five years on. Which DLG ??? I currently fly a Phoenix 2000 and also the 1600 version. 13. Hi Russ Thanks for the sole response. Following your on from suggestion, I have hunted around Google and I do believe you are correct. Well done and thank you for that. Most of what I have seen seems to be in German, but I will try to find some further enlightenment in English. Go With the Flow Bruce

  15. Right Simon Thank you for the photo loading tutorial There's the pic of my Multiplex mystery sailplane from the 1980s The wings plug in to two steel rods on a slight dihedral. No flat strip as some other models aparently had. Any ideas on which model please. 114 inches (old money) 2.9meters. Go With the Flow Bruce
  16. Yes Simon, a picture is worth a thousand words. Unfortunately my old brain has not yet mastered these clever modern technologies. I need to study the "how to" which is kindly supplied else where in these forums and see if I can work it out. I have got as far as the photo and it has uploaded onto my laptop so that is some kind of progress. Go With the Flow Bruce
  17. Hi guys I have acquired a T tail sailplane 114 inches wingspan green transparent canopy. Possibly sold by Solent Sailplanes in the 1980s. Possibly a Multiplex model There is a plug in mechanical arrangement at the fuselage for driving trailing edge air brakes. Any thoughts on what this model is called. The T consists of two removable halves and is driven mechanically by a servo at the front of the all glass fibre fuse. Go With the Flow Bruce
  18. Hi Again Guys Just trying to keep myself up to date since I first raised the topic in October 2013. I was wondering if anyone has come up with an Android app for linking our planes to our smartphones for a live variometer App. My T6J suits my basic gliding skills for the moment, But I suppose that I could go the Taranis Plus route sometime in the future. But that's a whole other world for me at the moment. Go With the Flow Bruce
  19. Hi Guys and Simon Chambers I asked this query a couple of days ago on another RCME thread, before I spotted this thread. Summary I think I am experiencing short range between my T6J and my Delta 8 receivers (I have two). They are configured for fail safe all controls to neutral, E motor shut off. Background I'm a relative newbie started gliding a Bixler 2 in September 2013 using T6J and futaba RX combo. been able to fly 1300- 1500 feet with no RC range problems. April 2014 purchased a Phoenix 2000 and two Delta 8 receivers. Still on a learning curve and with new model, suffered the inevitable control and stalls from time to time but improving. (I fly 3S Lipos and do not drain flat) I am curently flying a Phoenix 1600 motorised glider. I have been noticing that at around 500ft distance or altitude that the control surfaces behave eratically. (At first Ithought it was me, but with more flights, I'm realising that there is something queer going on). I have started to realise that at aroundt hat altitude at full throttle climb, the glider slows and stalls.. Further thought on this makes me wonder if this might be shortened range and fail safe cutting in??? (power cut off and no surface control). It is easy to come out of the stall at that height and go into gliding routines with no more hassles, until I power up to regain altitude, and realise that I never make it past around 500ft mark. ( Ifly with an altimeter to record height and flight durations) I am currently flying in temperatures of around 5 degrees centigrade at ground level but would be cooler at altitude. Short range check on the T6J only gives me about 30 paces before erratic control, which I am thinking is quite short, but then I am a relative newbie If you have read this far, thank you for your patience. Please have you any thoughts or advice. Both Delta 8s behave similarly Go With the Flow Bruce
  20. Hi there Mart What radio are you using with your Delta 8 RXs? I am just wondering if my Futaba T6J is compatible with those Delta 8s??? Go With the Flow Bruce
  21. I seem to be having a range problem (I think) I have a Futaba T6J and have bound a FrSky Delta 8 RX. When I try the low power range check, a can't get more than thirty paces before the controls become erratic, I am thinking that it should be better than that????. When flying my Phoenix 1600, I have experienced peculiar erratic aileron response at around 500 feet. I have a second Frsky Delta 8 installed in another Phoenix 2000 and have had some quirky behaviour with that also. Previously I have been able to Fly my Bixler 2 using a Futaba 6 channel RX at 1200 and 1300 feet altitude without a problem, so I do not think it is theTX. Both Delta 8 RXs are around a year old. The antennas are set up at 90 degrees. Last week I rerouted the antennas to outside the fuselage again at 90 degree orientation to each other, but the symptoms of low range continue! Any thoughts or suggestions please???? Go Withe the Flow Bruce
  22. Hi there Speedster I reckon it's probably a better deal to buy the complete ARTF for less than £50.00, then you've got all the other spares as well??? Go With the Flow Bruce
  23. Gee Chuck, That is awful! But I have to say that, in all, I have purchased four of these Phoenix gliders P2000, P1600, PNF as well as ARTF, and never have I had a problem with the props and spinners. I must have been lucky! There have been some other issues with some trays fitted incorrectly, and not enough adhesive on some of the ply pieces on the wings, but nothing dramatic. Certainly for the price I reckon that they must be the best bargain ever. I had three hours P1600 flying with the Red Kites this afternoon. Getting some stick time in before winter arrives!!! Good luck And I hope you get that bird in the sky soon. Persevere Chuck, you won't regret it Go With the Flow Bruce
