  1. Don't forget the 1st coat of resin is just to stick the cloth to the wood the second is to fill the weave ,with the second coat I mix microballons in with the resin this helps fill the weave and also helps keep the weight down. Apply 1st coat with an old credit card leave for 24hours or until thoroughly dry Second coat with an 1/2 paint brush again leave until dry When dry rub down with 80 grade sand paper to knock off any lumps and bumps and any overhanging cloth then finish with a fine sand paper using light pressure Being as you are doing only the firewall and undercarriage plate this is all you really need to do

    AV Gas

I have just bought a Saito FG21 in the instructions is a leaflet regarding Ethanol and ways to protect the engine after use which is basically the same as with glow engines and nitro. My question is has anyone used AV gas in their engines, the instructions say to use pure gasoline if possible and I believe AV gas is.
  3. Guys, many thanks for your replies especially Bob for is kind offer of a 136 servo. What I have done is made two brass extension pieces the width of the retract unit one per servo as I was able to use two of the side frames servo mounting holes. The brass plates were drilled and tapped which were then fitted to the original servo mounting holes and then fixed to the retract side frame.   Edited By John Lucas 4 on 10/05/2015 20:52:09
  4. Is anyone flying Hanger 9 Mustang Old Blue Nose and if so what servo's for the retracts. The manual suggests JR servos which are discontinued Hitec HS75BB are to short to pick up the mounting holes, the only servo which will fit is Futaba 136G which is also discontinued.
  5. tomtom39, thanks for the reply
  6. Does anyone have any info on the Saito FG21 4 stroke petrol engine. I want to put this engine into a Hanger 9 Old Blue Nose Mustang but am concerned with the noise on a standard set up. John
  7. Dave I have got this kit which I hope to start in the new year. On the DB website someone has done a build with loads of photo's. At the last show II went to I did have a conversation with the owners regarding their wing fixings. They had a demo wing fixing and their was no way I could fail this wing fixing. I will build as per plan, I don't think that for one minute DB would sell something that is not fit for purpose. As the old adage says " First find out if the rumours are true" Good luck with the build
  8. Gents here are some photo's of the new tank opening, The photo show's an hatch which was going to be used to install the tank but forgot about the cross bracing doh.
  9. I will put some photo's on. Got a couple of dashboards coming from Dylan of Lazercraft. Regarding the undercarriage I will go with the one in the kit. Not much to do to complete the model now, join the wings sheet the bottom some sanding cover then look forward for better weather.
  10. At last I have sorted the tank problem. I removed F1 and chain drilled F2 with my Dremel., made a nice square hole and now can now use a 12 or 14oz tank. Tidied up the tank hole replaced F1, glued in some triangular fillet around the joints of F1& F2 and now back in business. Just goes to show that sometimes putting together ARTF you forget how to solve problems which seem simple in the end. DB Sopwith Pup next. Thanks to those who responded to my original email
  11. Jon thanks for the info. I will give it a go.
  12. How much flying time with a 12oz if reasonable I will put tank where you have put yours
  13. The tank bay had to be shortened by an 1" as the Saito is  bigger. What I will try is having two tanks one above the other both pointing forward, the top tank of the two will feed the bottom tank. I still might try putting the tank in the wing bay and see what happens. Edited By John Lucas 4 on 12/12/2014 19:24:15
  14. In my Precedent Stampe I am putting a Saito 125 glow. The tank supplied is one of the old Flair 14oz tanks and the only place this tank will fit is below the front cockpit. The question is the tank going to be to far back bearing in mind the Saito is not a pumper. Any thoughts anyone.
  15. Info please. Does anyone know the max distance a glow fuel tank can be placed from non pump engine. I don't want to use a Kline or a Perry pump. Thanks
  16. John thanks for the info. I have emailed them and will let you know if I get a response.
  17. Help please Are Falcon Models still trading as I have searching the net for one of their sprung undercarriages for my Stampe and drawn a blank. I have had a look at Falcon Aviation with no luck. May have to fit the one supplied with the Precedent kit, shame. John Edited By John Lucas 4 on 15/11/2014 17:43:14
  18. Hello Lee yes, they certainly pick their feet up with the YS engines, big loops no problem. John

  20. After reading Alex Whittaker's report on Flyboyz Nieuport 17 in the August issue of the RCME and being my building board is now clear I thought that the Nieuport would make a good winter project. Visiting www.flyboyz.info are inviting pilots to join their team flying the Nieuport and the Fokker DR1. On the website is a contact form requesting any questions use the form. I filled in this form and to this date I have heard nothing and that was about six weeks ago. So all I want to know are these models only being sold to those wishing to join the flyboyz team.
  21. if you don't mind building from plans, build Terry Westrop's Loaded Dice 68.5 inch wing span for 60 size 2 stoke. You won.t fly a better pattern ship which can cope with all weather conditions. The plans wings and tailplane are available from myhobbystore
