  1. Its a very easy build Brent, I've flown my one 3 times now and planning changing the motor for a more powerful one plus I had to add lead to the nose for cog. I'm finding a motor of about 150 grams is about the required on my Mini Jazz..... Sorry about the health issue. I hope it all goes well with you and look forward to hearing from you in the future. Good luck Jamie
  2. To help with the choice of motor I have added 65 grams of lead to the nose for COG so the motor can be that weight heavier which will help
  3. Ok I tried the 10 x 5 tonight and to be honest it really is lacking the ooommphhhhh. Full throttle it tips into a stall and won't climb out like I would've expected. Having the 10 x 8 on and its a different machine all together !! So I'm in a dilemma ....do I fly it and possibly burn the motor out on a 10 x 8 rather not .....Can anyone suggest a motor from HK that I can order that will pull this Mini Jazz into align and light up the sky's lol.....
  4. Posted by George Pickering on 05/09/2014 15:13:23: can you still buy these kits? if so where sells them and how much are they. Welcome to the forum George, you get them here and also you can pay for a CNC wood pack etc. Just search for the Mini Jazz **LINK**
  5. Posted by Steve Hargreaves - Moderator on 03/09/2014 22:02:31: Sounds like it might need a touch of downthrust Jamie. Maybe try an "alternative approach".... trim it to fly at about 1/2 power & fly a straight horizontal line then chop the power. What happens? If it immediately pitches down then you need some down thrust (Reason...the motor must be pulling the nose up). If it pitches up then you need a touch of upthrust.(reason the motor is pulling the nose down)... The model should just continue in a straight line & gently lower the nose as the speed decays. To check the CoG try a dive of 45 degrees or so with no power. If the CoG is correct it should carry on diving or slowly pull out of the dive....too far back & it will tuck into a steeper dive. Too far forwared & it will pull out of the dive.... Ahhhh Steve thanks for the dive test. I will try that tomorrow night. It definately need a couple of washers behind the motor to by the sounds of it. Ill get the CoG sorted first then try the washers. Thinking about my next build now....Going through a mad phase of considering a Spitfire build ........I think I should go into a dark room and have a word with myself!!!
  6. Well I test flew the Mini Jazz tonight again ... All is still intact and boy is this thing a floater !! I am quite surprised lol but I do have a problem...small one lol. Last night I test flew it to find that my prop was under sized and the CoG was back to far so after an exciting flight I took it home and put a small amount of lead up front. Tonight it was much less pitchier and easier to handle. I think it needs a small bit more weight in the nose and it will be a pleasure to fly but when I give it half throttle it pitches up and in the glide it is perfect level attitude. I fitted the F1 bulck head perfectly sq to the front of the fuselage as per plan but should I try a few washers under the top fixings of the motor to give it a little down thrust ?? Or would a CoG slightly to far back still make it pitch up under power ?? But behave in the glide. Well pleased with this wee model. Glad I built it now
  7. Yes I relies that Pete, that's why I only ran it for about 5 seconds with not even a second at full chatt. If I test fly it again it will only be at half throttle. I'll not be putting it through its paces.....The main reason for the test flight is trimming and setting the cog in the correct position. Last night it was to far back and very pitchy. Its just a wee buzz about nothing more ..
  8. I ordered a half dozen props last night so hopefully they will arrive on Friday. I took the 8 x 6 that was broken off and swapped it for a 10 x 8 and wow what a difference in thrust. I know the pitch is a little past the recommended but it was a quick test to see what it was like. Yes Allan, a watt meter is a must I think now that I have started using electric motors. I'll need to order one definitely !! .....I'll maybe have a quick try with this prop later to see what it is like in the air. Thanks for the help. Ps. A watt meter would clearly mean there would be no more prop choice questions lol.....I'll buy one asap
  9. Posted by Pete B - Moderator on 02/09/2014 21:21:12: Looking on the product page, figures for three larger props are mentioned - 9x5, 10x4.7 and 10x6, with the largest apparently producing 216W. Provided you have a suitable ESC - about 25A should be fine - that should give your Mini-Jazz a bit of get-up-and-go... By all means try a selection to see which suits best but, if you haven't already got one, buy a wattmeter at the same time - it saves a lot of grief and magic smoke.... Pete Thankyou for the reply Pete, its a red brick 40 amp esc so it'll handle it ok. I'll order it tonight. Jamie
  10. Posted by Ian Southerton 1 on 02/09/2014 21:06:48: Nicely finished, love the colour schemes! I built 3! One I've flown once, one is 90% complete and the third is still not covered. Having a lesson toward my licence this s week! Noticed your aileron servos are on top of the wing, am tempted to do this one of mine as my lo all flying area is too rough for landing gear. Yep that is why I put my servos on top of the wing to. It's a small plane and Uc may not even go on my one. I think unless your patch is like a bowling green it'll dig in. My patch where I go would be pointless with small wheels.
  11. Hi everyone, I will be needing to buy a new propeller for my engine tonight but was wanting to just check make sure I get the right one. The aircraft is a mini jazz with a Turnigy 2217 16turn 1050kv 23A Outrunner and a 3s 2200 mah battery. I just maidened it tonight with a 8x6 electric prop and it was fine buy just checking if it can be made more efficient ?? I'll be ordering a few props before bed Ready to fly weight is 700 grams ( 1.5 Lbs ) Thanks everyone
  12. Seat of your pants that is !!! Very skilled pilot.....I'd be hughining over the side in that sea ......was going green just watching it lol
  13. Very Nice Nev, Here is my one. I've just a canopy to screw on, cowel and buy the U.c and fit it. Decided electric in the end after buying an engine etc lol. Top photo above and a view of underneath below I did fly my one tonight....notice the broken prop ..!! It was very pitchy so I'll be adding a small amount of lead in the nose. CoG is maybe a quarter inch back from where it should be but the 1 minute of flight I had was very much fun. This is going to be a brilliant frost morning hack
  14. Has anyone got any hot tips on mounting this motor from hobby king. It's the exact same as yours Ton. It came with a wide variety of goodies with the motor which includes an extra shaft, prop driver that screws onto the motor etc. I was opting for using the x shaped mount that fixes to the motor with 4 small screws. I was going to screw the x mount onto the inside of the fuselage and the motor shaft would protrude out through the fire wall this way but the access is so poor I think it's a big ask to pull this one off with a screw driver ...hmmmmmmm Also the motor came with a blue round item that has allen key bolts that come in from each side to clamp it onto the shaft.... its the prop saver I think........What is this for lol.......I'm such an IC freak lol.......give me a cox 049 and there'd not be any stupid questions
  15. Not ready yet sorry, fuselage is but wings are on hold just now. Hobby king delivery of electrics just arrived and LMS is out of 1/16 balsa sheet so need to order it online today ....should have just ordered it but was giving my LMS the trade....he said it might be in on Wednesday but an order would be here by Wednesday to minus the drive to get it... As soon as its done Ill post a pic Ton Jamie
  16. I'm using an accucell turnigy charger 1s to 6s . It charges life batterys to. I'll buy a new pack for the Skysports transmitter and hopefully it'll be ok. It's primerally for the slope any way. Non powered flight.....I have another 2.4 ghz system for all powered flight applications...I might end up binning the Skysports 35 mhz gear and just buying a few more rx Thanks for the reply's
  17. OH DEAR !!! Battery is definitely spent...... Here is the plug that was between the battery plug. The white end connects to the transmitter PCB. Picture below shows the negative hole is all discolored which concerns me some what .. Any suggestions.....my transmitter might be problimatic now to. It hasn't shown any signs of trouble at all yet.... I was just purely following maintenance and found all of this.....sighhhhhhhh
  18. Hi thanks for the reply's, yes it is a Nicad battery. I'll maybe take the shrink material of of it to expose the cells and post a picture. If there is leakage of the cells I assume I will be able to see this and trace it back. There was a plug that plugs to the battery plug and it was showing signs of corrosion ( Green residue ) there is then a small white plug that plugs to the back of the PCB on the transmitter. I'll post some pictures shortly of all this. Pictures talk a 100 words Thanks
  19. Hi everyone, I have removed a battery from my old Sky sport 4 transmitter which I use primerally for my gliders and the battery - wire (black) is showing signs of the dreaded black wire creep. Can I and how easy is it to just replace this wires. I know that a new battery is only £17 posted to me roughly but I'd like to try this first. The battery is fine and holds a charge ok its just the wires. Jamie
