  1. If I fancied getting a sailplane am I going to be restricted for choice in the future ?
  2. Can you tell me the difference between the Dx6 dsmx and the Dx6 dsmx tx ? bit confusing is the tx a changeable mode switch ?
  3. No decision has been made yet that's the problem there is too many to chose from !
  4. If your using fuel don't you need a cut off switch. When I look at various model kits I cant see any indication as to how many servos a model needs. How do you find out these things, eventually id love to build a bi and tri plane. Is there a guide somewhere that tells you how many channels you need.
  5. I need some advise on getting my first transmitter, the local club near me uses spektrum so I was thinking about the Dx6i or the newer Dx6 black one. Both would be ok for training with. The newer one talks to you which might be helpful to me whilst learning. These have 6 channels but do I need any more or will this be enough for my needs ? I don't really want to upgrade any time soon so this has to be the right one. Only reason for asking is there is a big price jump for more channels.

    Which Kit

Posted by Philflyer on 12/11/2014 10:28:57: Hi Trebor See my review of the DB Mascot. I bought one after I trashed a Seb Art Shark. As others have said the Seb Arts are all fabulous flyers but very very difficult to repair. I finally binned my Mascot last week after a DX6i transmitter brown out while doing inverted circuits with it at 20 feet altitude. Ok, I know, always fly at least 2 mistakes high. The Mascot lasted me 5 years and really was an all weather machine. It looks much better in the flesh than the DB websites picture. Have a look at my photos. Even after its death dive it could have been repaired with a new front end only but I had a low wing kit sitting waiting for attention so I did'nt bother. P.S. After sales service from Horizon Hobbies (Spektrum) was unbelievably good as usual. I got a fully serviceable tranny and receiver back a week after posting it and no charge!! Edited By Philflyer on 12/11/2014 10:35:53 Can you point me in the right direction for the review, had a look for it but cant find it.

    Which Kit

Looking at the Wot 4 there is different models to choose from the classic, the mk 3 also both have deluxe versions. Motor size ? would I be better getting the larger so Id get more use out of the plane rather than outgrowing the small motor at least this way I could have some fun with it once I get the hang of flying. Not decided yet weather to go electric or petrol, my nearest club has longer hours of available flying time for electric. I suppose its a noise thing not sure. What flying time do you get with batteries ? My next question might be radio gear brand, there is allot to take in and there is lots of terminology like LOS and FPV Is there a section of explanations for the beginner.

    Which Kit

Thanks Ernie I was looking at the se5a or Fokker d8 to build but get something cheap to learn with. If I could end up with something like this Id be well chuffed. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=F9WZIpL4OgQ

    Which Kit

I quite fancy starting to build a kit but which brand. Its between Ben Buckle or Flair, just wondered if you've had one and what`s the fit like on parts.
  14. Posted by Justin K. on 09/11/2014 13:51:28: Trebor, where are you based? I will probably be at the Romsey swap meet next week. No need to sneak in , all are welcome there. I'm just outside beastly Eastleigh. I take it I can't get in till after 12.00 ? Just to be on the safe side I'd better leave the other half at home just in case she gets wind of how much this could cost !! What's a TX ?
  15. Sorry chaps had to visit family this morning. Been looking at Southern Area Flying Club there is a Hampshire Model Flying Association Swap meet in Romsey next weekend, might try to sneak in and have a look about. Ask about the local area to me and what equipment they use. If I bought a trainer Id still need the Radio gear, whats the max amount of channels will I need for this. 4 to 6 ? ultimately I have always fancied bi planes and tri planes. I know thats along way off but I've always been a dreamer
  16. How can I find out about a legal public place is there a list somewhere ? Didn't realise you can take yourself off for a quick flying session, thought you were limited to club days and a flying schedule. Does this mean if I get affiliated through a club for BMFA the insurance cover would not cover me taking off on my own for a quick spin / session ?
  17. Programable tx and the dx6i it's all confusing to me at the moment
  18. I fancy building a cheap trainer plane but got a headache looking at the radio gear. Don't want to waste money but would need something that can cover future needs.
  19. Thanks for the advise, I understand about getting a trainer or something that is going to take a bashing but on these cold dark nights I could be getting prepared for next year Just reading through some build threads on here I have found another use for plaster board. This is the stuff I need to learn, what tools, best place to get them. I live just outside Southampton if that helps. Not sure about electric motors, I like the smell of petrol.
  20. Just logged on this morning, I am a total novice thinking about having a go. I made a few rubber powered models years ago but nothing since. What I would like to know is a rough cost of membership fees and insurance for flying just to give me an idea. My main interests are ww1 planes and slope soaring, but for now just an idea of what a realistic cost of this hobby is.
