  1. Hi All, Following completion of my Sea Fury I thought I would try another correx model! So I have started an MB326 Impala. My impressions so far is that this feels a more straightforward build than the SF - but perhaps it is because i am getting more familiar with correx!. The Impala is probably around 70% done, needs covering, canopy and final details to sort out before test flight. I will be covering this one in vinyl - in contrast to the last one which I painted. Overall flying weight is looking to end up around 1300g. A couple of photos attached. Regards Harry
  2. This is great footage of your Typhoon Steve! Love the scale slow rolls and the bombing run! Regards H
  3. Hi All, Hope you get some good PSS flying in tomorrow. Apols for not coming down - work -family etc. I will be at the Orme in three weeks though! Happy flying to you all and - Phil I hope you maiden your new Impala! Regards H
  4. Some brilliant photographs emerging! Thanks all for a great weekend, good company, good banter and lots of hours flying! Regards Harry
  5. Hi All, Great pictures Steve of your Impala and Phil's Mig! Looks a great/challenging flying site! Well I think I've put the Fury in Sea Fury now! Just about done- some pictures below. Some stats - wing span 58inches, wing area around 500sq in, weight just over 3lbs - gives a loading of around 15oz/sq foot. ( Sorry still in old units!). So not a floater! Wholly constructed from Correx (and a lot of hot glue!) with a combination of paint and solartrim for striping to finish. The bigger issue is I still need to fly it though! As someone once said ...all planes will fly..... at least once.... Regards Harry       Edited By Harry Twist on 03/08/2015 22:56:22
  6. Hi Tim, Could I follow Daves' request and if there is space ....er...sit at your table?! regards Harry
  7. Hi All, A Correx U2 would be a great prospect and... Wickes sell something very like Correx I think its called antinox flooring protection- but dont hold me to that one ( it is a recycled product). Its 2mm thick - available in black ( specially designed for a U2!) sheet size is 8 feet x 4 feet and price approx 4 pounds each or approx 15 pounds for 4 sheets. I have used it and it behaves similar to Correx- it is perhaps not quite as hard or quite as dense. The problem is they wont cut it for you - so you need a big car or ... take some scissors/knife and cut it up to 4 feet square! Hope this helps get one built! 8. Hi Steve, Thanks for the response. Should have added to my post.... as always with digi images --the pictures make it look better than it is!!! I think the paint will come off with knocks/landings car rash and hangar rash but ... I am sure there are ways of preparing the Correx surface or using a specific plastic primer that will help paint to adhere. I'm not so worried at this stage - really enjoying the build using different materials! I also look forward to seeing your Impala and Andy's Mig3 - both look great!  Regards Harry Edited By Harry Twist on 29/07/2015 23:41:25
  9. Hi All, Thought I would update on my Correx Sea Fury, pictures below! I reckon I am 80% done, needs canopy finishing, elevator servo fitting, wing/fuz seat needs tidying up, few other bits - control surface throws etc. Also I seemed to have developed a slightly warped left hand tailplane- which I will try to sort out. Decided to paint the model rather than vinyl ( thankyou Wickes taster pots!) rollered on with 6" roller, then over topped with matt varnish (colours are - teal blue uppers over powder grey lowers) I have a slight concern - paint doesnt seem to adhere well to Correx - but see how we go! Nose is not quite scale _ I may make a smaller one - the one on the pic is blue foam - sanded then covered in fibreglass cloth (thin) then several coats of WBPU, rubbed down and then final spray yellow. I have made it removeable to be able to add/remove noseweight. Hand made cockpit - not quite right - temporarily seated in the pictures and needs a bit of finishing but I am fairly happy with it. She's never going to win any scale master class but I think the spirit of the Sea Fury is there! A few more decals once I sort them will help and then the real test begins - will she fly? Hopefully I will maiden her before going down to the Lleyn on the next PSSA meet. Failing that she could have her maiden flight on the PSSA weekend weather permitting! 10. Hi All, Steve - your Impala looks great in silver! Please can I ask how do fix your wing on? Cannot see any dowels! Thought I would ask before I start cutting holes in my fuz - in case you have a fiendish fixing method!! Also general question - servos in wing ( mid wing) to aileron or servos in wing centre - via torque rod to aileron? Phil I see on your Mig and on all the Impalas mid wing servos with overwing pushrod -is it just take your pick...? OK 2 more pictures to share with you - one of the wing prior to folding  plus one of the first meeting of Sea Fury fuz and wing- couldnt resist a quick rough cardboard mock canopy just to give me a feel. of the overall look ! ! 11. Hi All, Well - in a previous post in this thread I said I would be trying to build a Correx Sea Fury. So thought I would share story so far. Photos attached. Thoughts so far.. (my first Correx model)...I'm fitting it in around work/family etc - so pace is slowwww.... enjoying the build though. I have some material limitations - I dont really have all the correct thicknesses/enough Correx so this is a bit of an experiment! Have modified the plan a little - I have added some longerons, plus an additional former - there was too much air between the rear two for my liking! Also since the photos I have added a foam lined battery box enabling me to remove the battery- the original plan suggests permanently boxing it in between F2 &F3. I have also now skinned the fuz and pushed on a little with the wings. I will add (occasionally) more photos as I hopefully progress! Just about getting the hang of cutting / using Correx.... Happy flying.. Regards Harry     Edited By Harry Twist on 09/07/2015 19:22:44
  12. Hi Bob, Not sure if this helps - here is a picture of my SAS Fleet ( sorry dont have a Cygnus picture on it's own!) My 1980's Cygnus - is stock standard ( foam veneer wing - ply/balsa /fuz covered in silver solartex). I have modded the sliding servo elevons and the model is a dream to fly ! ( Ignore the SAS grandchildren WT and Fusion!! - they also fly superbly). Not sure if yours is a Cygnus - wings look right - not sure about fuz and fin? Heavily modded - however if memory serves me right you could just buy the wings and then play by ear from there! The wings are basically 95% of the aircraft!! Anyway enjoy the model I am sure it will fly well! Best regards Harryt   Edited By Harry Twist on 30/06/2015 23:53:58
