  1. I have recently bought a Black Horse Typhoon and with it some NewPower XL-37HB servos. The servos are rated between 4.8V and 6V. I also have a sub-C 4600 5 cell NiMh battery. I brought this battery as the plane has 9 servos and I dont want them to drain it in the first 5 minutes! My question is: As the full after charge voltage of the battery is greater than 6V is this going to fry my servos?
  2. I don't even have a FW A and wasn't aware there was a slope/gliding cert. Must read my hand book again!! Sorry Martin but to have full integrity in reporting events I feel we must show the rough with the smooth!
  3. I would be interested but.as I have only been flying again for about 2 years and started slope soaring again last year and don't have my A cert, I was wondering what the minimum requirements would be to join in. My club mates are happy for me to fly solo and I feel confident to fly. I'm into photography too and would like to make more photos of planes and 'flying things'. If I'm able to come would people mind me photographing the event? Some members at my club are superstitious and either won't let me or don't like me taking photos! I guess they believe that their planes will crash. Cheers, Mike.
  4. Thanks BEB. There are 2 other Wots Wot at our club. All FS. One with an 80 and the other with a 75. Just wondering what prop to use. 12x6 or 13x6? I think my Acrowot had a 12x6 but had speed issues when landing. Too fast!
  5. I've been progressing with my build and have 'reinforced' the lower locating tang with LOTS of cyano. It seems to be made from ply so should be good enough for the job. I did a trial fit of my lower wing and noticed that when it was put together the back edge of the wing was proud of the fuselage. To get it to sit flush I would have to put significant pressure on the screws holding it down there-by increasing the pressure on the forward lug. To relieve the pressure I will have to fettle the profile of the wing cut out on the fuselage by a few mm in selected areas. I haven't done this yet and am thinking of possible fixes. Normally I'll get an ARTF and throw it together and launch it as is, but now that I have a workshop in which I can utilise the room instead of the 3x3 table on my boat I'm building with more thought.... But still get cyano everywhere it doesn't need to go. Rob and BEB. Yep, electric is less vibrant and I'd love to go that way but I have a spare ASP70 FS after my Acrowot 'died' due to transmitter/user interface error in a low roll! 6. Possibly. I'll check the wood as mentioned above and the slot it goes into. I'll also keep an eye on mine. BEB, I would like to thank you for all your selfless, inspiring and considered information you post on this site. Oh yes.. Have you finished your tiffy. Your build blog seemed to come to a premature end. The tiffy is on my wish/want/need/must have list. Edited By Yoda on 02/04/2016 22:19:38
  7. BEB. Usually their rigs aren't dismantled. They noticed movement in the wings on post flight checks.
  8. I'll have to see if the lug is made from a ply or just a piece of hard balsa and which way the grain runs. It's been suggested that I soak the area in CA to strengthen it or even build it up with some thin metal. Mike
  9. I have recently brought a Wots Wot having seen a couple of guys at my local club having great fun flying theirs and commenting that they are really happy with them. However.... At the end of the season last year one guy had a problem with his lower wing forward attachment being loose. He investigated it and found the forward retaining lug had worn so reinforced it with two dowels. Today I received a phone call from the other member who had only recently built and started flying his model warning me about the front lug and to consider reinforcing it as after his last flight he noticed his lower wing loose. He took the wing off to find the lug had broken off and had he done some acrobatic moves his lower wing may have come off. 😳 I am going to reinforce the lug just in case. Has anyone else had or know of anyone who has had any problems with their lower wing attachment lugs?
  10. Hello all. In the middle of last year I brought the Taranis Plus and upgraded to Open TX 2.0.17 and have two rx to use on my models. I'm buying another model and would like to use the Taranis Plus (TP) as my radio gear. I was going to buy a new rx from T9 and noticed that it is now sold as LBT compliant. After looking through the forums here am I correct in thinking that if I want to use my TP I'm going to have to 'upgrade' my TP and old rx's software / hardware to version 2.1.7? And will I be able to do that as MattyB hints at? Whilst I like new technology and the option to be flexible I have struggled with the Open TX but with perseverance done what I need to. So reading other threads about flashing tx and rx has left me a bit bemused but I'll get there. I don't want to go charging in and find I 'brick' my equipment. any advice or pointers to other threads would be VERY welcome.
  11. I would like to thank every one who suggested various chargers. I have decided on one that will do what I need for now with spare capacity but not necessarily future proof with relation to LiHv. I have gone for the Junsi iCharger208B 350W 20A from Nexus models. Some may think it a bit pricey but it should do for a while!! Thank you again for your advice. Mike.
  12. Recently I brought a second hand Precision Aerobatics Extra 260 airframe. It needs a few repairs but will be perfectly serviceable. This will be my first electric plane and as such am going with the recommended power setup. but.... The batteries I am getting are Overlander 2200 3S 30C types and will need charging! I am not sure which charger to get. I have searched the forums here, and there is limited info on the subject that I can see. I am looking at the Ripmax Sigma EQ mini or the Powertech B606 as I thought there were relative new types and are probably fairly future proof. I would appreciate any comments that might put me more at ease with the whole electric rats nest!
  13. Wendy, If you remove the child before washing the garment won't get clean!
  14. That was my second model airshow and first time at The Southern. I thought it was excellent. I really enjoyed all the flying especially the full size and model aircraft tho I heard some comments that the full size was flying too close to the crowd line. An excellent and enjoyable day.
