  1. Both good quality emulsion and acrylic have worked wonderfully. Thanks for the help
  2. The wings are EPO Foam according to the website. Whatever that is.
  3. Good point ! The model is a TRAINSTAR made, or at least supplied, by HobbyKing.
  4. Can anyone tell me the best paint to use on a polystyrene model ?? The self adhesive stickers keep coming off and I am looking for a more permanent job. Cheers all
  5. Thanks for the tips. I tried some spray adhesive for foam backed carpets on a small section and it is absolutely perfect ! It gives a sticky surface that can be put down onto the original backing sheet and peels off just like new !!
  6. I have some very old self adhesive decals that are in excellent condition except that the adhesive doesn't ! It has been eaten by a spillage of white spirit. YUKKY ! Does anyone have any suggestions as to how I can adhere these to a model ?? I know Gripfil will work but it is a mite messy, nails may be good to.   Edited By Countryboy on 12/12/2014 18:35:25
  7. Now we need some cows in the field too. FRESH BUTTER ANYONE ? Just put a bottle of milk in one of those 3D jobs and 10 mins later, lovely creamy butter !
  8. WOW !!!! That lot is a bit scary !!  Where will it all end ?  We're doomed I tell you, DOOOOMED !!!! We may yet see an end to ic models at that rate. Sad  ?     Edited By Countryboy on 13/11/2014 01:04:11 Edited By Countryboy on 13/11/2014 01:05:09
  9. One for all of you experts ! (??????) How big is it possible to make an electric powered plane given the vast array of brushless motors that are available ? Forget SPEED !! How big could it be even with multi engines, Lancaster or similar 4 engined civl even ??? Maybe a Viscount ? Mike
  10. Pete / Percy , glad to hear some sensible advice that doesn't call for a mortgage !! Good news for us hard up old aged pensioners. I'm gonna go for nylon geared analogue rated at a torque of 30% more then the calculator specifies. There goes the belt and braces again !!!!
  11. Thanks all. The calculator that Pete linked me to is just what I was looking for. What I needed to know was the torque required to operate a surface. Now I have that info, I need to know two mre things. 1/ What advantage does a digital servo have over analogue ? 2/ Metal or plastic gears? does it matter if the torque rating is correct ? Mike
  12. Howdy again folkses ! I am starting to get together all the blibs and blobs needed to start on a kit I inadvertently purchased ! It is the one in my thread requiring a translator but I have managed to obtain a copy of the English ( after a fashion ) build instructions and plans. What I need to know is how I select a suitable servo for the control surfaces. There seems to be a plethora of different servos available and deciding on what torque is required just doesn't seem t be mentioned anywhere. Is there a way to calculate the strength of servo required ? Mike
  13. I just bought a " low voltage" alarm for the old girl. It is a tiny unit that clips into the balance plug and emits an extremely loud scream when battery reaches a preset voltage. 3.0 volts at present. I have given it a test and it is still very audible at 300 mtrs over the local traffic. I should be able to hear it clearly as it passes over head. And it can be connected to LEDs too for a visual warning, Mikle
  14. Thanks Pete, that sounds like a good suggestion. I was thinking about reducing to a 3s 1800/2000 pack but the reduction in weight will dramatically affect the CoG and if I add ballast at the back I may have to remove it later. At present the AUW is extremely close to the original design so I want to keep it there if possible. Consider the full throttle trial aborted. Mike
