  1. Just flown her the once and was hand launched. She was no problem just a small bit of down elevator and she was better on small rates, she looked awesome. I covered her in light glass with Poly-C with at least 6 coats on, primer a light sanding and then airbrushed.
  2. Thanks chaps, but the other half was at the top of the plan. Sorry for wasting your time.
  3. Hi Robert, just come across your build, looks really nice. I liked the look of the Sunderland, so at the start of the first lockdown sent for one and began to build during the lockdown. Here are a couple of photos of my finished one.
  4. I am building a B-17 that requires the fuselage to be built in two halves, but there is only the port side on the plan, what is the best way to build the starboard side?
  5. Thanks chaps, that will do me nicely, was just experimenting to see when the LVC would kick in. I'll know when to land now.
  6. Used a watt meter, and was running a couple of notches above half throttle, pulling approximately 500w.
  7. After setting the LVC to 2.9 on a 4s lipo (esc manufacturer recommendation, with it being a multi motor model),which comes to a total of 11.7v. Is it normal for the LVC to cut in early, let's say 12.8v.
  8. I have programmed three AS3X636 RX using the series on YouTube by Dave Marshall, and all have worked fine, normal flight mode, AS3X stabilizing mode, and panic mode, all ok. my latest one has hit a wee problem and the problem is, there seems to be no AS3X stabilizing mode when the model is moved from side to side, up and down etc, also when in panic mode there is no movement in the rudder, but all other control surfaces move as they should. Anyone else encountered the same problem and if so how did you rectify it. Thanks Ron
  9. Fist of all, many many thanks to all your input and knowledge. I have re-programed the four ESC,s to 4-Max re-programing card ,(let's say default settings) and after a quick test and on a not fully charged lipo, the two outer and the two inner are putting out 195 watts 10.6 v on the lipo. All four connected to one lipo are putting out 390+ watts with the same voltage on the lipo. PeterF, I will do a better check to your recommendation, when I get a bit more time. Thanks all
  10. Posted by Martin Harris on 15/09/2020 15:34:05: I think the only time you put a prop on backwards is for a pusher motor/engine i.e. the motor/engine is pointing backwards. Reversing a propeller simply makes it produce thrust in the same direction - but horribly inefficiently. It might be worth training the ESCs on the AUX channel separately. Edited By Martin Harris on 15/09/2020 15:36:25 Hello, I am not putting a prop on backwards , the set requires 2x standard props and 2x pusher props
  11. Posted by Colin Low 2 on 15/09/2020 12:52:08: RONOS, "Two are standard and two are pushers". Do you really mean pushers or opposite rotation? Why not email George at 4-max and ask him. He actually owns and flies the original Tony Nijhuis Sunderland as featured in RCME. Sounds like cheap batteries to me and the voltage is collapsing as mentioned by Martin. I run a Tony Nijhuis Lanc on a single 3S5000 and can get a good 15 minutes flying on a calm day, never had any problems with batteries - 4max supplied. Hi, the set up is from 4-Max, with the same 2 standard and pusher props that George recommends. I know he runs his on one lipo and like you gets a flight time.
  12. What I have noticed this morning is that all 4 motors are not starting at the same time. The two outer motors which are knocking out approx 305 watts are starting on a click of the throttle and the two inner motors kick in on another click. I have them on two different channels on the RX, one in the throttle channel and the other in the aux channel.
  13. Posted by Martin Harris on 15/09/2020 01:36:56: Do you really mean that all 4 props are identical or are two of them pushers? If the latter, it might be that despite the sizes being identical, the pitches are a little different. Swapping them with the other pair and reversing rotation of the motors before measuring again would prove this. Two are standard and two are pushers.
  14. Martin Harris, what i can tell you is all 4 motors, 4 ESC, the the 4 props are identical. The two outer props are running anti clockwise and the two inner clockwise and have removed the red wire from two of the four ESC's as the diagram on the 4Max website. I want to run two lipo's , one for the outer and one for the inner, just in case if one goes down then i might have a chance of getting it back. I will charge the lipo's up again, and see what they read and do a bit of swapping about and also run them in parallel as you suggest .
  15. Hi, I have the Tony Nijhuis Sunderland, running the electric 4Max set up with two 3s 5200mAh lipos, one for the outer motors and the other for the inner ones,. When I put the watt meter on the inner motors and went to full throttle both motors were putting out approx 205 watts, when I put it on the outer ones it read approx 305 watts and when I hooked it up to all four motors running just the one lipo the watt meter was reading approx 460 watts. Can someone please explain the reason in the simplest way. Thanks

Posted by Jon - Laser Engines on 08/05/2020 17:54:41: Just checked and they look identical to me Thanks Jon, do you think if I just ordered the needle rather than the whole carb, it would fit into the carb body.

    OS40FS

Hi all, a quick on for you, Would a carburettor from a OS40FS Surpass fit onto a earlier OS40FS, the one with the spring on the needle.
  19. Posted by Steven Webb (Steve Webb Models) on 17/04/2020 17:01:49: The FS 40 ( one of the best engines OS ever produced IMO) uses the same exhaust pressure adaptor ( some call it a silencer) as the 20 & 26 OS engines. I think the ASP, SC 52 fits. Sometimes the OS version turn's up on eBay. They can go for surprisingly high prices. Have you tried Just Engines? I sold a new one in its packet a few years ago. It was a spare I had and the auction went over £20 - I was amazed and wished I'd bought 20 off them when they were available. LOL. The pressure adaptor ( which some think is a little Muffler) is best left off. It does nothing to quieten the engine as its quiet to start with. Its not high power like later generation OS engines. The FS 40 sets up better and runs better off pressure. FS40 OS - 1982 - First version had a spring needle. Like a control line or stunt engines Needle. Flexible. Later versions had the grey shorter Needle. Like on the Surpass 40 Steve Edited By Steven Webb (Steve Webb Models) on 17/04/2020 17:04:46 Hi Steve, the first version needle was it silver with a long spring on it and it screwed onto a thread, rather than into a thread.?
  20. Hi Eric, yes I agree, it's not very electric friendly, not like the FW190 which comes with a battery holder and theres a door behind the exhaust to get at the lipo. What I did was basically cut a opening the same dimensions as the lipo in the fire wall, made a battery tray and strengthened the sides with light ply and put a stopper behind the motor mont to stop the lipo touching the motor shaft. The bottom of the battery tray came in handy for the extra lead needed to get the CoG. I will post some photos later.
  21. Hi all, just a small update. Like I said the 6s is getting me about 1500 watts with a 14x7 APC electric prop. I have managed to get the lipo as far forward as possible by cutting out a bit of the fire wall, and it took 16oz of lead to get it balanced with a 2lb lipo in, but that didn't get any weight off, still comes in at 4.5kg.
  22. Posted by Richard Wills 2 on 31/01/2020 05:32:08: I have both the 46 and 60 VQ Hurricane, and I think the specs on the site are wrong, they match what the 46 acually weighs. The 60 came in at 10.5lb My 60 has a 91 FS engine and 19oz of lead bolted onto the engine mount total of 43oz, but I have moved the cg back a little from the manual. The electric motor is 10oz so total of 50oz on the front, so not far out of what I have if you are on the marks. I get 8300rpm on a 14x8 and to be honest it is marginal for power, no way it would fly on a 62 so that info is probably for the smaller one too. The pitch speed is fine, but needs more thrust so I would try 15x8 or 16x8 and see what numbers you get as you seem to have some head room. It flies great but it is heavy so watch it. The stall when it comes is vicious so careful on that elevator, the manual throws at 10mm are generous. Edited By Richard Wills 2 on 31/01/2020 05:32:57 Edited By Richard Wills 2 on 31/01/2020 05:37:06 Hi, could you tell me CoG you ended up with, I have mine on the 90mm mark.
  23. Piers, that came to me also, but truly there is no room, it's going to have sit behind the bulkhead. As far as the extra weight, the powers there and am used to something coming in hot with the mozzie. Anyway I know where am at now and what I need. Once again a big massive thanks for all you guys info and knowledge, I have learnt a lot, Ron.
  24. Posted by Bob Cotsford on 31/01/2020 15:25:06: 1500W? at least you have a throttle! That is verging on 3D power levels. Yeah plenty of power there now, not that I will be flying at full throttle anyway but nice to have a bit in reserve.
