  1. Anyone out there building a DB Auster J1 in the Basingstoke (Hampshire Area).? As ground to a halt. Help needed. Tea & Biscuits supplied.
  2. If anybody has built this DB Auster J1 recently or is about to build I would be interested in any tips. I have been a member of a model flying club now for about 4 years. I have the DB Auster kit ready to start the build soon, so any info would be appreciated. Last model was Richard Wills Spitfire. Hoping this will be a bit more docile. Thanks Dave B.
  3. I have read somewhere that using Ammonia on balsa-wood makes it easy to bend. Is this true?. And if so is it used neat or watered down. I have bought an 87" wingspan Auster J1 kit from DB Sport, ready to start in the warmer months. As the first stage of the build is bending fuselage longerons. Thanks for any help.
  4. Anyone know where I can get a SIG Four Star 64 ARTF. Tried Pegasus Models the main importers of SIG Models & Sussex Models plus more. The only place seems eBay from Minnesota United States. Which is going to be costly and time consuming, and luck of the draw It arrives in one piece. Thanks Dave. B.
  5. I have got ARF SIG 4 Star 64, my first low wing plane. The engine sizes they quote to use is glow power 4-stroke .60-.90 or 2 stroke .60-.75. I have a spare 4 stroke .60 to fit. This has been assembled as per instructions Battery fitted right up front under fuel tank. Starting point for c of g is 3.5 inches from leading edge. Engine weighs 450grams. Now find I have to fit 12ozs of weight up front, which seems to be a lot to get the c of g correct. The standard servos in fuselage are as near to c of g as you can get. Do I go ahead with ballast weight, of would it be easier to get a bigger engine and put less ballast in. Thanks Dave.
  6. Has anybody heard of a low wing plane called a Nimble. If so is it a good first plane coming from High Wing Stiks. Thanks Dave B.
  7. Hi I have found a problem with all servos still moving after moving sticks on transmitter. This only happens for a few seconds. The receiver is a Spektrum 6210 Satellite. And Ripmax Quartz metal geared servos. Power from 5 cell AA 6.0 v battery. The receiver specifications say upto 9.6 volt can be used and servos upto 6.0v.Is this a start of a problem with the receiver, as I don't have a second one to test in place of original. Thanks Dave.
  8. Hi all, as I started a heated debate regarding battery's to use for receiver and plane control surfaces. I'm about to fit a spectrum 6210 satellite receiver to my new Ugly Stik 60. Is there any advantage in having aerials sticking out of fuselage at right angles from each aerial. The plane is made of ply & balsa. Thanks Dave B.
  9. Hi, I'm new to this hobby, and would like to know if there is a preferred battery type to power receiver and plane control surfaces. Don't know which is best Lipo or Nimh. My model is a ugly stik with a sc .61 2 stroke engine. Thanks Dave B.
  10. Hi Ady,,Ive been building the same spitfire as you , from Richard Wills. Regarding the toe out of the undercarriage how do you stop the legs from twisting around. Do they have to come apart, and file a flat on the leg. Thanks Dave.
  11. Has anybody built this kit with a 4 stroke engine. ?
  12. Hi Ady, Is it best to join wing skins together then place on ribs first or in sections. As I am ready for this stage. Thanks Dave B
