  1. Does anyone know of a model flight simulator that will work on a linux based laptop and ubuntu or with google chrome?  I got fed up with windows and ditched it last year. My old version of Real Flight only worked with windows and probably the same goes for newer versions of Real Flight.  Has anyone used a model flight sim on a linux platform or with google chrome?

  2. I have recently received my October 2021 issue of the magazine. The quality of the pictures and photos just seems to get better.  One thing is puzzling me regarding the article on the superb scale model of the Fairy Flycatcher: It mentions that, quote " She had flaps that run full span on the leading edges of both her wings" unquote.  Now I have done some serious looking at the photos but I fail to see these flaps. Everything has been included in this magnificent model, so why can't I see leading edge flaps and I keep coming back for a second look?  I'll not sleep tonight unless I can find out what I'm not seeing. Somebody please help!

  3. Thanks guys for the remarks on painting foam board. My FT Bushwacker is made with FT "maker foam board"  which is white. I've bought a rattle can of "Rustoleum Painters Touch" acrylic craft enamel from B&Q. I'll test it on some scrap first.

  4. Elvington near York has a massive space big enough for the Nats. The LMA have their August show there. I think it's privately owned. The model jet jockeys use it as well and it also has the Yorkshire Air Museum.  Some of you may think it's too far north but it's roughly halfway between Lands End and Aberdeen.

  5. Thankyou Dennis and LHF for your very useful comments. Wish I had known about that before tackling the fus. I have some UHU por, PVA and Aliphatic so I'll give those a try. Just been watching the video of the wing build and with those long glue runs I will not be using hot glue. Thanks again.

  6. I am currently building the FT Bushwacker as an introduction to using foam board. My main problem is getting things lined up before the hot glue sets. This has resulted in the back end of the fus being twisted. Would UHU por work instead of hot glue so I can get the tail feathers straight before the glue goes off? I suppose I could try it on some scrap foam board.  I have built the motor pod and fitted the motor and ESC but I intend to fit a 2200mah 3s battery in the fus below the pod.  Does anyone know if velcro stuck to the paper lining would be sufficient or should the surface be lined with something else or any other ideas regarding securing the battery?

  7. Beginning to get used to the forum now after tweaking things to my liking though I am fed up with the Twister NINJA advert at the top. I know advert revenue is important but can it be changed like at least every hour or so?  Certainly doesn't make me want to buy one quite the reverse.

  8. "Latest Post" now appears at top and bottom of screen which I can click on. Not sure if I made it myself or it's official.  Clicked on 'My Activity Stream' at top then 'custom activity' set label as "Latest Post" then used the filters to show last 7 days then set to 'condensed' view. Seems to work for me as an interim measure.

  9. Managed to log in today with no problem (using chromebook & chrome browser).  Just need to get the "Latest Post" bit sorted and away we go. Thanks for all the hard work that's gone into producing this. It will take some getting used to for old blokes like me but I will persevere.

  10. NEED TO CARRY COPY OF CAA EXEMPTION NOTICE E4956 WHEN FLYING (if applying via BMFA):

After renewing my BMFA membership and opting for CAA registration at the same time on the azolve website, all very quick and easy, I assumed that I could just continue flying ( I have a BMFA FW(A) certificate) and wait for registration and numbers to come from CAA in February 2020. However a club member pointed out that I must carry a copy of the CAA exemption notice plus proof of BMFA membership and copy of achievement scheme certificate whenever I'm flying. The CAA Exemption Notice E4956 states this in paragraph 3. Sorry if you all know about this requirement, but I must have missed it when I renewed BMFA membership. Of course this only applies if you apply for CAA registration through the BMFA or other recognised organisation. Copies of notice E4956 can be obtained from the BMFA website under EXEMPTIONS.

  11. Does anyone know about Nickel, Cobalt, Aluminium rechargeable batteries?

I've recently bought the latest cordless vacuum cleaner from a well known brand and it is stated that the batteries are 7 cell Nickel, Cobalt, Aluminium. The previous cordless vacs have lithium ion batteries which I would have expected. The manufacturer must see some advantage in this new (to me) type of chemistry. I wondered if they would have any advantages in our hobby.
