  1. I have made a start on the fwd fuse of the Ta4 conversion, I ended up making a new F1,taller and with curved top sides, a new F2a to fit between and had to shorten F2 and add a little to the top sides to make it wide enough to keep the parallel sides of the new canopy. hopefully the pics enclosed will help show what I have done. I also want to fit a 3s lipo and bec that I have on hand so have widened the battery box by and 1/8th" otherwise F3 is unchanged they are just pinned up to the new canopy base in the photo's as I have omitted to buy any 4" wide 1/4" sheet . some is coming along with the Jet Provost kit fro Traplet AUS so I have lots now to be getting on with.
  2. hi again Ade, I still haven't been able to find those drawings, hope I haven't lost them during on of our house moves. I didn't see the difference in height of centre line so have kept the new nose on the same line, doesn't look too bad so may leave it there as it will be simpler to build....don't tell anyone, it may also be a little more vulnerable during landings but if you saw most of my landings you would know that a it is not possible to prevent damage then. keep up the good work, I have a few days off coming up so after a bit of gardening and pool maintenance ( for brownie points) I hope to make a start. probably start with wings as I don't plan any significant changes there. G
  3. I'would love to be there in september Peter, but the odds are not good, the following year is a small possibility so I will keep an eye open for the next mass build and .........maybe in 2017 ... and technically my visit would be from New Zealand as Australia won't give us kiwis citizenship. big lift sounds great, our local slope is a bit cramped and fairly wind direction limited, the sea breeze in the afternoons works best but 40 km inland they are rarely classified as BIG lift. cheers g
  4. My Kit has arrived, so after a couple more late shifts I will be able to get out the cyano. I have been reluctant to make a start as the plans I had printed up seemed slightly over scale, when I get a chance I will compare them with the kit plans hopefully more posts now with some progress being on the cards, look out guys i'll be catching up. G
  5. Thanks pete, it looks as tho' I was trying to make it complicated here is why I might try to fit operating brakes to my TA4 I like this look.
  6. super sky hawks but very colourful. Edited By Pete B - Moderator on 29/03/2016 11:14:18
  7. more single seat possibilities.... sort of non- aggressor Edited By Pete B - Moderator on 29/03/2016 11:16:44
  8. OK i hadn't looked at the cross section had I. I may have to put something in there after all .thanks for the heads up. I haven't the technology to vac form a canopy but I have a system for stretching the plastic over a plug ,that I hope will do the job. it seems a fairly simple shape, and I think I'll add the framing detail separately after forming. I am certainly keeping a copy of the plan as I would like to add stuff if the first one flies as good as yours looks! brakes/ flaps/ AOA sender that works etc. dreams. G
  9. Thanks Phil, I will be able to use the kit parts when it arrives, with just the addition of an F2b half way between the new F2 position and F3 I will use a long sloping canopy base and not bother with the 1/4 doublers in the top fwd fuse. Cheers Graham
  10. a 3 view projected to the plan gave me these approximate shapes to work with. I just adjusted the projection until the overall length was correct lined up intake shapes and fuse bottom then drew on the plan where the projected lines were. hope this makes sense, it felt a bit like cheating but gave me a good indication of the alterations required. 11. Hi Ade, On closer look at our plans I find I haven't enlarged the nose section at all, the 3 view I projected came up with a virtually identical nose with just the few inches added in and the higher canopy i will try to attach a pic of my plan to my blog "Aussie build" so you can see what I mean. superimposing A4 and TA4 3views and shining a light thru also shows a very similar nose shape, I will use the kit nose former and F1/F2 and add an F2b with a simple sloping canopy base probably of 1/4" balsa more than likely it will allow me to eliminate the doubler strips along the top of the fuse sides at the nose. cheers Graham
  12. Hi Ade, Drop tanks for display sounds good would save making that long delicate undercarriage. My T'bird will definitely be stand in the next county scale , but it 's good to start close to accurate so the impression is easily achieved do you have some connection with the RNZAF ? I served from 1969 til about 1980. somewhere I have the original painters instructions for the gold colour scheme, hope to have a chance to search for them shortly. IF I can find them and get them scanned I'll get a copy to you. don't hold your breath tho' they are not where I first thought, so goodness knows what safe place I've put them in! I look forward to seeing your model develop on here. Cheers graham
  13. Hi Flyer, I have also decided on the anniversary TA4k and have come to similar conclusions re: bulkheads required I have overhead projected the ta4 3view onto the plan so think it is fairly accurate, I was a bit surprised how high the canopy was compared to the single seater as I don't remember that much difference from working on them. If you are going for the gold colour scheme I will do mine in the test scheme as shown in my post. to my knowledge the gold scheme never flew without the drop tanks installed, do you plan to fit those? the viz test /concept scheme did fly with and without so I probably won't bother with them. Cheers Graham
  14. Making a start with some colour scheme options Edited By Pete B - Moderator on 26/03/2016 09:17:42
  15. almost figured it out . ta it is a bit close to the common grey/white with the associated viz probe but better than two doing the same scheme. G
  16. Good start Phil, from being a day ahead I am now a day behind and not likely to make a start for a couple more now due to work requirements. but I watch with envy. the december issue of RCMW is on the shelves here at the moment so may have awhile to wait for the second article too. thanks to you I am able to read the first one. local printers machine is broken down so will have to go further afield to get my drawings for the T'bird mods done. If some one else is planning the gold RNZAF 50th anniversary colours I will use the test colour scheme for that aircraft. How do I create an album so I can put a picture here? Cheers Graham
