  1. I'm looking at getting an Evo 20CC petrol. It comes with the black wrap around silencer, but I can't find any dimensions of the silencer. The engine is shown as being 115mm at its longest but there is no dimension for the total length of the engine and silencer combination. Is anyone able to assist with the dimensions please? Ideally I'd like the total length from Prop hub to the rear of the wrap around silencer. Thanks Chris
  2. Its a fine balance between flying alone and having the possibility of calling the emergency services should that be necessary. I have mixed views on lone flying and there are several issues. Firstly, if you fly alone, you don't get the camaraderie from your club mates, equally it can be enjoyable flying on your own. Secondly, if you do fly alone and have an accident, be it a bee sting, bite from a prop, heart attack or a fly in your eye, you don't have anyone to help you. As for clubs and lone flying, its a difficult one. At my old club we had about 15 members and flew 3 times a week, so lone flying wasn't a problem. In my current club we have 85 members and fly 7 days, so the ability to have set times is difficult as many people choose to fly at the drop of a hat and don't necessarily know people to be able to 'buddy' with. In terms of mobile phones, I remain to be convinced about their impact. If you consider that at flying shows such as Weston Park or Cosford there are several thousand people present many who have phones/tablets etc, so the potential RF 'noise' is substantial, together with radios, wireless PA systems etc. I would suggest that should mobile phones be present at a flying site, that they be left in pit boxes away from radio systems and not taken on to the flight line, as you won't be able to answer it while flying.
  3. I always use the Modelfixings socket head screws. As is intended, I use the grommets supplied with the servos but replace the standard servo screws with socket head. Have done for the last ten years. I've converted all my fixings to socket head (Allen Key) type. For cowls, canopies etc I use the 'O' rings that Modelfixings supply.
  4. I've looked everywhere and I can't get my hands on a dual switch with charge sockets and fuel dot. Does anyone know where I can get one, as they all seem to be out of stock! Edited By Chris Berry on 12/04/2015 21:48:09
  5. I use component shop for my Sub C packs. Had four gentle 10min flights on my Flair Stearman the other week and still showed 6.2v at 1amp load.
  6. Using twin sub C, 5 cell 3300 packs on my TF Giant P47, Flair Stearman, 1/4 Chippy, 1/3 DVII and DB SE5, once charged for the first time I usually charge for about 4 hours and load at 2 amps and they all give about 6.5v and remain strong even after 3 or 4 flights. Trick is to check and load them regularly, and having 2 is always useful, but like most batteries when they go, they go!
  7. If really big models then get a van. If not then a Skoda Octavia or Superb. Bullet proof, VW vehicle for Ford money but so much better. if you like to get your toe down then the 170 is for you, if not then the 140 is ideal.
