  1. Brilliant. Thank you for those informative replies, lots of types to consider. I don't think I'd go for the workshop ones, I've always had trouble with them misting up. The double glazed type sound good and the way to go. I had anticipated needing clear lenses, though. I wear reactor glasses and sometimes struggle with model orientation when they get further away, as they sometimes inevitably do. So I'm struggling with the idea of tinted goggles. My aircraft are a mix of colours, but most are white with decals. Maybe I should use non-tinted glasses with tinted goggles?
  2. I could do with some goggles to go sloping in this cold weather. I assume ski goggles are the thing. Non- tinted. And ventilated so they don't mist up.I need some to wear over spectacles. Can anyone recommend something that won't cost the earth? I had hoped to find a supplier here in Devon so I could try on first, but not got a clue what to look for, really! I fancy that workshop goggles will be no good, but wondering if any other sports use them. I see ski stuff being slightly elitist with prices to match. Thanks.
  3. OK, I've managed to set a lot of the switching and voice stuff as per your post, Pete, I really appreciate your help. I'm a bit slow finding my way aroung the menus, but I'll get there. I'll leave things as they are now until I can do a test flight. I'll print off your post and take it with me in case I want to alter settings at the field. Thanks again. Geoff.
  4. Pete, thanks for that long post. I have emptied the fields and done a rebind, and now I'm get an altitude voice alert, which is good. The rest of it I'm struggling with atm, and will have another go tomorrow when I'm hopefully a bit 'brighter. I'll come back with progress report then, and will probably need a bit more guidance.Cheers.
  5. I did the Auto Configure here at home when doing the initial bind, and also did it again today up at the field to see if that would fix anything, but no joy. I don't know how to delete existing settings, though. The TM antenna was just under the canopy, but here at home it was hanging outside, so it's not just aloft that there is a problem. Footage seen on Youtube suggests the sensor is responsive enough to register raising from floor to head height. Yes, it is the Vario module that is fitted. Being a bit of a techno numpty, I was trying to avoid information overload while flying. I don't really want climb/descent beeping all the time as I have a fairly low irritation threshold, but altitude and voltage would be nice to play with. I'm really just trying to familiarise myself with the kit, and then I can use different segments of it depending on whether thermalling, sloping or whatever.
  6. I've just done a test fit and fly with the Spektrum telemetry in a Radian glider. Using DX9 Tx. Everything seems to be working apart from altitude. Voltage and temperature readouts OK. Vario is making the right noises (irritating!) whilst flying, but the main thing I want (voice notification of altitude) isn't giving me the goodies. All I'm getting is "Altitude-no data". Does the altitude have a separate pressure sensor to the climb/descend sensor? I assumed it used the same one. I see the Vario has 4 wires, so maybe 2 signal wires where it plugs into the TM1000. This is my first time with telemetry, so can you wise ones help, please?
  7. I've now found the DX9 thread on RCGroups (that'll keep me off street corners for a while reading that lot!) This RC business is a steep learning curve for an old noob like me. Thanks again for the helpful advice and pointers, much appreciated.
  8. That's brilliant, thanks a lot, Frank.
  9. All good advice, thanks very much. I will indeed contact Horizon. Why didn't I think of that? Just passed my A test this morning despite gusty winds here in Devon, so I'm on a high atm. Yay!
  10. Thanks, guys, that's reassuring. I go off in the MH for weeks at a time, so the Tx will need charging at some stage. Vehicle voltage can be a bit variable unless the engine is off, but I have solar panels as well, so I'd need to remember to isolate whatever battery I'm charging the Tx from. I wouldn't want to put 14.5volts into the Tx. I might need to modify the wiring a little but I wanted to avoid using an inverter if possible. It might be safer for me to fit an inverter but every time you add something into the circuit there are losses, and because I tend to wildcamp a lot of the time, I need to be as efficient on power as possible.
  11. Thanks for the replies and the welcome. Just to clarify, the DX9 has a 2000mAh 2S Li-Ion. The manual states 'The DX9 has an internal charger designed to charge the included 2-cell Li-Ion battery at a charge rate of 200mAh. The charge port is not polarity-dependent.' The 12volt supply I mentioned is not just a lead with a ciggy plug on, it has a gubbins inside and a label saying 'output up to 1amp'. It's one of those things where you can turn a wee adjuster to give different voltages on the output. I did find some info by Googling and there were comments (in USA) that you could charge a DX8 by just connecting a 12volt supply. However, I preferred to find definitive info from someone who actually does it. With motorhoming being popular in the UK, I hoped to find someone who already does what I'm wanting to do. Thanks again.
  12. Hi all, I'm new to RC and keen as mustard. I already have several models and a DX9. As I'm also a motorhomer and wanting to take my models away on my travels I want to be able to charge everything from the vehicle 12volts. I can do all my batteries via my Overlander VSP, but what about my DX9? I know it has a built-in charger. The mains adapter output is 12 volts at 0.5amps. I have a ciggy lighter adaptor that outputs 1amp, would I be safe to use that direct to the charging port on the Tx? Or do I need some other method? My MH doesn't have an inverter so no mains voltage unless I go to a campsite. I don't really want to have to remove the battery pack from the Tx each time and risk wear and tear on the connector. Thanks for any advice.
