  1. OK making slow and steady progress. I have

    • shaped the front end.
    • Drilled the dowel holes and test fitted the wings.
    • Getting better at covering after doing the flaps ailerons and elevators.
    • Only burnt myself once, reversing a servo.  Thx Paul for the guide. ?

So next challenge I could do with some help with is the wing fillets.

The instructions and most people's builds seem to skip over this guess everybody knows how to do it or got bored of posting photos by then.  Can anybody post some photos or help on how they go together ?

I will post some photos soon.

    Thx

    Jon

  2. Paul,

Thank you as ever for your rapid response. Excuse the basic questions as normal.

    •  I have made a battery box extension (badly) out of ply not sure if lite or birch.
      • Should I ensure it is made from Birch?
      • not sure how your battery box joined to the original box I was thinking of gluing it in place and putting some sheet to connect the two?
    • I have also looked where you have marked your batteries to judge where I might need to put mine as a starter for 10 and thus where the battery box extension might need to go.
    • I don't have a CoG balance so I am currently 3D printing one which should be ready after a visit to B&Q for some threaded rods.

I think maybe I will leave this until the end, my only issue is I might need to locate the ESC below the battery box as mine is too big to go in the nose. Which means I might need to review how I do this and still fix and shape the bottom part below the nose box., but I can have a think tonight.

  3. All,

Thanks for all you help so far, I am cracking on slowly.  I did some covering of flaps and all went well some last min fettling to ensure they open and close well.

So next major job is fitting the battery box and cowel.

    The questions I have are:

    1. What is the distance between cowl and spinner back plate?

    2. Is there any angle built in or have I not build straight?

    3. What's the best way to attach the battery box and what does it glue attach to to hold it in place?

    Thanks

    Jon

  4. All,

I am going to do a bit of covering with brown paper tonight for the first time.  I have Richards instructions ?.

But does any body have any hints and tips.  I am planning on using Gorilla wood glue.

The next big job will be wing attachment and Wing Fairings, everybody seems to have skipped over how this goes together in their blogs or done it slightly differently so any hints and tips would be welcome.

    thanks

    Jon

  5. Trevor,

Thanks so much that is what I thought I would end up doing but just wanted to check I was not missing the obvious solution before I cut a chunk out of my battery box.

Paul, - Up until now I have only purchased from the UK warehouse but they have not had the batteries in for ages.  As I am building the battery box ext I wanted the batteries to understand how it was going to fit together etc.   Ouch is all I can say.  - wont do that again in a hurry.

Thanks again everybody for your help, my build has slowed to a crawl with the kids going back to school and my wife not going away.

but I will get there in the end. ?

I suggest that if you buy from Hobbyking you only purchase what is in the UK depot otherwise you'll get hit for vat and duty oh and the standing charge for the customs to take it from you.

    Lesson learnt. ?

  7. Hi,

Have not made as much progress as I would like.  I have most of the wing repaired now and after the joining exercise. Should be ready to put in the flap servo soon.

The fuselage is coming along slowly. Now I have the 4s batteries from HobbyKing and got stung for the shipping and customs I am trying to work out the position of the esc and battery etc.

My esc is a bit to big to fit under or over the motor like Paul did but I think I can put it under the battery  box.  Question is how has everybody fed in the battery to esc connector can you post some pics so I can get some ideas / options.

    thanks guys.

  8. Hi,

Building my first plane that is fully sheeted. I am really struggling to measure and cut the sheets to fit well.

Also trying to repair some errors between two existing sheets but really struggling to get them to fit around curves

    Any hints and tips?

    Thanks

    Jon

  9. Paul,

Thanks for the quick reply.  I am just checking I have the full range of movement on the flaps,  so Max flap I will check to see if I can get 55%.

Second question when you are covering do you cover the inner (curved) bit of the Flaps ?

    thanks

    Jon

  10. Small update

I managed to drag the small people out of the house today to get myself some Tesco's brown paper.  Progress has been slow due to family holidays but back on the horse again.

Trying to get the wing finished and the flaps and ailerons covered in the next week.

Quick question.  What angle should the flaps extend to ?  I seem to remember 55 degrees but cannot seem to find it in the forums.

    thanks

    Jon
