Update. I just Googled. Don't think I need to worry with ia6 or ia6B 600 mtrs should be OK.
Tests I have seen is iA6 = 600 meters. iA6B = 1800-2000 meters. Been past 1600 meters myself on a few occasions (X6B which is almost the same as iA6B, but smaller form factor)

Question 2. How do you do a good range check with 2.4 ghz? With 35 mhz I would just not extend the tx antenna, you don't have that option with 2.4?
-
Thanks for the comments. As you may have seen in my OP I'm finally , after a good few years on 35 mhz, going into the 20 century with 2.4 ghz and that Flysky rx. so I',m in the process of updating all my rc planes. Your observations are interesting Mike. I bought some ia6 rx and some ia6B rx and I was a bit curious as to what the difference was apart from price. .
As we fly LOS anyway, realistically is the possible range difference you mention of huge importance Mike? If it's about noise, provided the antenna are positioned OK can I expect to be able to fly models as well as my eyesight permits. ie What exactly does 'park fly' mean? I've always assumed it meant very small lightweight models. I guess the bigger the model you can afford to fly it further as you can still see the profile etc. My biggest is a WOT4 and I'm CAA BMFA legit too as it happens!

Are you having a bad day or something?
I can't be bothered to go through all the posts on other groups and cut and paste all the positive comments I got about this TX. I have more important things to do today like watching paint dry.
And perhaps I should have said A LOT OF PEOPLE ARE USING THIS CHEAP AND NASTY BIT OF CHINESE JUNK
If it's shipped from a UK or EU source to the UK YOU DON'T PAY DUTY OR CUSTOM FEES. As you appear to be so keen on me proving how many people do trust and use this Chinese rubbish maybe you'd be kind enough to give me evidence of people paying duty or taxes on goods shipped to the UK from EU or UK warehouses. That would be very interesting.
GOOGLE IT.
Do I pay duty on goods from EU?
There are no customs duties to be paid when buying goods coming from within the European Union.
Can't be ....ed with this anymore.

Incidentally all of the flyers on other forums I posted my video link on were all all absolutely without exception full of praise for this FlySky tx. The fact that it says park fly means nothing. The people that write the web page blurb are Chinese.

Thanks Flight 1, I know this kit is OK and half the modelling world are using them as far as my research goes.
KC, most of the big Chinese distributors have UK , USA and EU warehouses now as it happens and when you order where possible they ask which warehouse you want it to come from. I think the web sites know what region your web connection has come from and they show appropriate links. When I click on that link it doesn't come up with ES it comes up with ...
In stock. Processing time:3 business days
Free shipping via
Shipping time:7-15 business days
Try finding anything electronic nowadays that hasn't come from China. They know the rules!
Anyway, as it happens I actually bought mine from this link below. It says UK stock but the paypal name etc was Chinese anyway, and it probably came from a Chinese EU. warehouse I put the Banggood link above as their deal was even better but it was Chinese Spring Bank holiday when I ordered and post was delayed. But I read reviews and I research before buying. I know for example you can have probs with cheap Chinese phones as they don't talk to Google. But also, I have reviewed over 50 action cameras on my YouTube channel and have quite a lot of comms and dealings with Chinese companies direct!

It does have the CE mark and it's not new, it's been around 3 or 4 years. I posted on BMFA Facebook group and discovered that numerous people are using this tx and rx and are very happy with it.
-
Thanks Wayne, and yes, I find it easy to use and easy to set up new models, I'm updating my collection of 7 or 8 planes at the moment. Very happy with it.

Is your model worth a £1 ? Lost model locators 5 for just over £5 at the moment. Maybe you use them anyway, if not why not! Easy to install in a couple of mins, check out my video. These little gadgets have helped me save a couple of mine in the past. All of my models are fitted with one. 43% off. http://shrsl.com/23yns (affiliate link.)

Collapsable undercarriage! A while back I posted my video about the nose job conversion I did on a foamboard FT Versa to make it easier to build in a pusher configuration. (Difficult to get CoG right in pusher. ) I mentioned I planned to fit an undercarriage to make it easier to launch, well here it is! I designed it to be collapsable so as not to do too much damage in a bad landing. Just need to maiden it now. Watch this space!

I finally did it, went on to 2.4 ghz. (Yes I know, it's about time.) This FlySky i6 2.4 ghz transmitter, which included a 6 channel FS iA6 receiver was such a ridiculously low price I couldn't say no. £35! At that price it'd make a good spare? I made a short idiots guide video showing the tx and how you connect a rx to the peripherals. There's also a quick preview of my upcoming current model builds. Transmitter and receiver Banggood (Afilliate link) **LINK** £35.08 at the time of writing.

Nice work, that will look great in the air!
-
Thanks Cliff. I've made the undercarriage now so at least I should be able to take off from the ground rather than try and hand launch on my own. Time will tell. Waiting for some decent weather now!
I'm planning to make a short video of the u/c for anyone who's interested.
-
That is a very good idea!
-
That's beginning to look like an aircraft. Nice job Cliff. Looking forward to the maiden.

CoG is now around 48 mm from leading edge at the nose.
This conversion came out around the 250 gms mark with an 800 mA 2s. My first conversion, lots of carbon reinforcement and big motor, plus 1300 mA 3s was 475 gms. I am registered and BMFA too!
I still have one unconverted Wish glider and the CoG of that (with the bolt in the nose as supplied of course) is around 50 mm too.

Trying to sort a CoG issue with my Lidl glider (Wish clone, just £9) but a couple of crashes on the way. I got there in the end, with more down-thrust and CoG trim, but was the last crash one too many! Links to both my Lidl build blogs are in the video.

My little build blog of a modified FT Versa. This model is notoriously difficult as far as CoG goes in pusher mode. I think I came up with a pretty solution. A nice nose job! What do you think?
-
Nice bit of modelling Cliff. Look forward to seeing that in the air!

Hi Dad Flyer, I use Hobbycraft foam too. Pretty strong but heavy as you say. I just mocked it up as the motor I plan to use arrived today. The wing naked weighs 300 gms but with motor aft and a lightweight camera and 3s 1000 mA battery right up front it'll still need 75 gms on the nose for OK CoG. Apart from cutting a slot so I can mount the motor a bit further forward I think it'll have to be tractor power.
-
No worries Cliff. It's a good camera but I think the price has gone up a bit since I reviewed it. Yes, £46
I had a good afternoon up at LH the other day when the rain stopped and wind dropped for once. Got my Lidl lightweight flying pretty well, though still has a tendency to climb to much with more than 1/2 throttle.

Hi all,I'm building an FT Versa foam board wing. 2 Sheets of board a fiver from Hobby craft. Wing weight without battery or motor etc is 300 gms. I just wondered if anyone has had success with this design as a pusher without adding loads of weight at the nose to get CoG right? I'm going to mount a camera and may use it for FPV but from what I've read it'
s still liable to be very tail heavy without adding loads of weight up front.
I'm planning on using one of these motors 47 gms , motor as I have them on two other models and with a 7 x 5e and 3s lipo they have loads of pull.
I wondered about cutting a slot in the wing so as to mount to motor further forward. That would help?

Thanks Dick, I worked out how to programme models, set up new models etc. but haven't fully explored the manual yet. I'll check. cheers.
