  1. Lidl Glider is 83 cms and the Wish clone is identical though not the same foam. OK though. Mine was quite bent when it arrived! There are quite a few around that look similar but are only around 60 cms.   The HK one is even smaller!

A couple of people asked 'why no maiden on the video' I posted. . (It was too windy.) It was even windier today but as the next few days forecasts are even worse, I went for it. Phew. It flew but it was a pretty hairy flight! Next time I'll wait for a less windy day.

  2. You may or may not have seen the Lidl glider (£8) power conversions. Great model to play with and CHEAP. Here's my 2nd conversion. This time lightweight. The Lidl glider is hard to find, so this is actually a Wish clone of the Lidl glider, but exactly the same design and size. And only £7 plus £5 delivery. Mine arrived a bit bent but was easy to straighten using boiling water. (I just ordered another to make an experimental weird version. I'm thinking 2 motors?) Foam a bit lighter than Lidl version but OK. My 1st came out at 350 gms with a big motor and 3s 1300 lipo, this has come out at 250 gms so in the UK, falls outside new CAA registration rules. Needed a tiny bit of lead at the tail to balance CoG. Details are all in my video. Haven't maiden yet, was hoping to today, but wind has picked up.

A link to the Wish glider is in comments on the video.

  3. I was sent one of these little FPV drones for review. Great fun. You can record on board video to your phone, take stills and of course FPV fly it. Flew it indoors OK but a gusty few days outside trying it in my garden left it in the bushes a few times. Could have been my lack of skill FPV is by wifi app of course. Altitude hold. 3 rates. One key take off and landing, flips etc.

I tried it with Google cardboard (cheap goggles) in split screen fpv view which was fun. I crashed a lot sad but that could be a good intro into fpv racing for beginners?

  4. The intention was a power conversion, not a powered soarer. Incidentally I just bought a new 1300 3s after having fade from the ones I was using (very old and knackered like me) and connecting that at home the power was phenominal with that motor. Half throttle will suffice!

I just started on another power conversion and I'm trying to make it as light as possible (less carbon) so that it will be slow fly. Watch this space!

  5. Trailing edge was very poor, I thought about improving it too. Mine flew well but I'm on 35 mhz and for some reason I got bad twitching with the rx and then loss of signal/control. No damage fortunately. I've fitted a different ESC and I'm hoping I've sorted the issue for another maiden (no2 frown)

  6. Following on from my build blog video I maidened my Swallow EPP wing on Thursday, very budget price, just £14! Windy day but it flew very well. Fun to fly. It was lively at full throttle, more than enough power, but at half thottle much better. I had way too much throw on the elevons. 245 gms all up weight with 1000mAh lipo, so outside new regs too. Links to my power train are in comments.

  7. Hi y'all,

Only just seen the replies! Trust me I was extremely careful and slow when using a blade to cut the bevels. ( Parts of the video are speeded up.) I was cutting away from my hand too? You can't use a Stanley knife, the body would get in way. I only half cut thru with the open blade in an effort to try to get the right angle, say 45 degs? Then use a scalpel to finish the cut.

My other stanley blade has got tape!  But I used a brand new blade on that to try and get a clean cut!

Sorry if you didn't like the music, would you rather have my heavy breathing indecision Or my monotonous boring voice as I hear on some build blogs that show the whole long process. I was trying to keep the video short and it has gone down very well on another group?sad

I had a second test flight the other day this time with the bigger motor and the model flew beautifully until I had some serious glitching from the rx and control was lost. Crash but no damage. I tried again and even looped, but signal break up again and crash, either bad rx and crystal, e bay s/h, still on 35 mhz, or bad ESC (cheap e bay?) giving to much interference. I have changed all three things and will try again soon when the weather improves.

Note repositioned battery to just over the main spar to aid CoG after fitting bigger, heavier motor. And a little strip of lead on the rear of the fusi to help trip CoG, which was about right.

    Watch this space.

  8. Finally put together my full build blog, which shows the conversion from zero to power from beginning to end! Step by step. Last minute change, having fitted a bigger motor I'll have to move the lipo midway in the fusi between the main spar to get a CoG. It's either that or add 30 grms to the tail, and I hate adding weight to a model! And I extended the ailerons a little. The changes will be in part 2 along with the maiden!

  9. Hi Dwain, I tried the left hand throw so that my right hand is still on the right joystock, ie elevons. But I'm rubbish at throwing with my left. I have sometimes had success with a right hand throw, (it's easier with bigger slow floaty models) and then quickly go to the right stick with right hand. But mostly the model has hit the deck before I get control sad

I have in the past put small undercarriages on some throw models like the Westwings Pinto. And the Mini Skywalker. But then of course you need a good smooth take off runway.

I'll persevere , and thanks Josip!

  10. Hi all,

My review of this very low price F22 (just £21 from Banggood at the moment, I see one ebay seller asking £40 plus?) Easy to assemble , just glue in two fins. . Complete with tx and batteries are easy to find. Something to chuck in the car.

It's very durable! I nosed dived it in a couple of times before I managed (kind of) to get control. My flight test the following day was more successful.  Needs a bit of trimming.  I put a slight down bend in the elevator part of the tail and that helped stop the tendency for it to climb and stall.

Not a model for a windy day as I discovered. It is what they'd call a park flyer, weighs less than 50 grms, but I managed to lose it over a fence into someones garden.

And yes, I know I was too close to fence, but I was trying to keep it upwind of me. A strong gust caught me and before I knew it it was downwind. As I say it weighs less than a cigarette packet or I wouldn't have flown it in that park!

I think it looks great in the air, hence a little sound effect fun at the end of the video smiley

    Here's the Banggood link

If this video was taken in September 2018 then at 3000ft above take off height then that flight was illegal.. IMHO that is reckless and you are jeopardising all the hard work that the BMFA has carried out to gain us the height restriction exemptions..

As I was flying a paramotor and not a drone or rc model, it was not illegal! wink

My post does say 'I was hand holding the camera' too. I thought pretty clear that it wasn't a model flight. I do know the drone code and CAA regs and I'm pilot rated as a paraglider pilot so amongst other things have studied air law wink I was flying VFR and there is no restricted airspace at that location.

Had it have been a drone flight it would have indeed been very stupid and reckless!

  12. I don't know how big your quad is but I have tried various cameras on my drone. Currently favourite is a Firefly 7S camera on my much modified Bayangtoys X21. (There's no way I'm going to shell out hundreds of pounds for a Mavic Pro!( I also added a motorised gimbal.

Firefly Q6 also has great quality 1080 video. It's smaller and lighter than a 7s. Similar size to a Mobius. Cheaper still.  Matecam X1  and GitUp Git2 are also excellent. There's aerial video from them on my channel too.

I tested all of these cameras are on my YouTube channel, plus there's a lot more aerial video too.

Costs? x21 probably £130 nowadays. 2 gps. Good position hold. RTH . failsafe etc. Firefly 7s will also do FPV. £60 And gimbal was £30 (though I ended up paying duty on it face 8

Here's one of my aerial vids.
