  1. My Lidl rc build no 10 and my third mini chuck glider and I think it's my best ever! My YT channel has my Lidl singles, biplane, twins and edf's etc. but this is my first brushed micro-motor mini twin! 78 gms AUW and even flew ok on a very windy maiden. If you want a challenging build have a go. 😉 Lidl sell these in Spring along with the big version, but there are loads of copies around. I built this, including the plane (£6.99) for around £35. Full maiden video will be out soon.

Well done Bonzo, always enjoy your videos.............remember the Vulcan?.

Please be careful when getting your helper to hand launch. Recently had a club mate nearly chop the top of his finger off doing the same!.

Yup, I hate launching pushers myself. Mind you I don't think to break anything with that tiny motor!  Vulcan still going strong too.

  3. Low budget and very lightweight. After the success of my mini Lidl RC and the 4 motor mini Lidl with 4 drone motors I've gone even lighter I converted a 7 gms depron foam kit into an RC plane using some bits from an old model.  24 gms AUW finished.  😟  No maiden yet, I'll need a nice windless day!  With only differential steering and no elevator control I don't think it'll be 3D!

  4. Put together my 1st kit in 2 years. (Been busy doing Lidl RC conversions and foamboard stuff.) Saw a mates YouTube test of this and it was great to fly and cheap. Couldn't resist buying one. £35 EPP 3D plane kit. Tech One Mythos. It'll give me a chance to try some 3D (maybe?) Instructions says it's crash proof, I somehow doubt it. Not much to do to assemble really, but it was obvious there was no way I'd keep the weight down and be able to use a small lipo if I'd followed the instructions. Made some good changes.
Anyhow, ready for maiden now, came out around 250 gms and it'll prop hang with the tiny BR1806 and an 800mA 3s, should be fun to fly! Maiden as soon as weather improves. When?

  5. A while back I built the foamboard FlightTest F22 Raptor from free online plans.  I simplified the nose which made it  lighter and an easier construct. Flies like a dream.  Anyhow, after the fun I've had with my two Lidl Mini chuck glider rc conversions,  100 gms, one with single motor and one with 4 small drone motors, I decided to scale down the FT plans for the F22 and try and build a 100 gms version of that.  It worked out well. I have yet to maiden, but will post here when I do.

You can scale down plans, and tiled plans with free Adobe Acrobat or Reader. There's a link to how to do it in my video description.

  6. One of my last years Covid lockdown projects was to make a cheap hot wire foam cutter. It worked (video is linked in description) and I cut a few wing profiles (check out the video. ) I turned my favourite cut into what I thought was like a Mini FT Versa. It turned out FlightTest had already done similar with the FT Arrow. Anyhow I finally got around to a maiden flight. The foam was cheap. A scrap of insulation foam I found in a skip! Quite firm and high density, but very light. Still haven't built a unicycle and learned how to ride it. That was the other project.

  7. My £5 Mini Lidl chuck glider 4 motor RC conversion with drone motors gets a very successful 2nd test flight after an experimental change of thrust angle of two motors to make it climb with control. It worked I think! Really good test flight in quite windy conditions for a sub 100 gms model. Lidl Stumpy 2nd flight?  Maybe not so good. 😞
Build blogs for all on my channel and LOADS of Lidl Glider RC conversions!

  8. She flies! My Mini Lidl foamy, very cheap and sub 100 gms RC build has a good maiden. AND its big brother Lidl RC conversion with Spitfire profile wings also had a couple of good 2nd flights after a CoG change. All in all a very successful test day. Build blogs for all of those and my 4 engined mini lidl conversion which didn't fly this time are linked in comments. The original maiden of that is also linked.
  9. A little idea that might save you some money! I just built a really lightweight, 80 gms Lidl mini glider RC conversion and this has necessitated me getting into really small batteries. I discovered my usual lipo charger couldn't charge them. The battery was only a £5 and I guess I could have bought a special charger for £10, but I  came up with a mod for one of my other chargers which does the job, only  took 30 mins and I figured I'd share the idea.

  10. After the success of my 4 engine Mini Lidl rc conversion built with drone motors I decided it was time to try and build a single engine Mini Lidl. People have struggled to RC convert these because of small size and power to weight ratio, but I kept weight down to 97 gms, including 200 mA 2s lipo and thrust from my motor / prop should be around 100 gms, so no power to weight problem there! A good challenge getting the electronics in too BUT I DID IT! Very detailed build blog, but easy to skip through chapters, or to the end summary. Parts list is on the video too. Just need a good day for the maiden so watch this space! My cost was little over £35 including a fiver for the plane! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gj4lk1SLVDU&list=PLLdle7NDE_1Y_XC3kjOSIUDJcRxVrhez-&index=1

Brilliant, you have surpassed your usual high standards Bonzo. Great effort!.

Thanks guys, and yes, you might  have heard me chuckle as I retrieved it.   Most fun I've had with a model plane in a long time. An interesting design challenge and also a  challenge to fly! Brilliant fun.  I went to a flying festival in France in September, they were trying to charge 20 euros  for those in one stand. Or £10 in a display tent at ground level.

Even better when they are a fiver in Lidl.

I've got another one at home, not sure what I'll do with it. I have some lightweight servos spare and a micro rx that will work with a 1s lipo? Watch this space!

  12. Not a BIG Lidl glider this time, (I've built 9 RC conversions of those), this time the Lidl mini £5 chuck glider and conversion to a 4 engined rc plane using a busted up small drone. Tricky build, the pcb was barely bigger than a postage stamp and my extension wires kept breaking as I tried to assemble it. No maiden yet, you'll have to wait and I'm wondering how much the built in gyro will affect the flying? Kept me busy over Xmas anyway! Sub for the maiden!
