  1. Finally got a start on the wing sheeting. Followed the instructions about the washout block and it seems to have worked. I decided not to do the curved pieces so just finished the sheeting square. Need to sand it all down now.
  2. thanks matt, yes on closer inspection I had cut the main longerons a bit short. so when I fitted the plywood parts I built up the missing parts and filled in the gaps. it seems to be quite strong and is fitting on the plane properly. I have started to sheet the wings so ill post up a picture or two of that. regards tony
  3. Finished the tail fitting, the picture shows the fin fitted with block either side. I didnt have a suitable sized block so i laminated some 6 mm balsa to make 2, one for either side. I fitred a fin spacer then trimmed the blocks roughly to shape before glueing them in place. I removed the spacer at this point. When dry i shaped them and installed the fin. It went in great and is firmly attached. I also added another hinge below rhe elevator line.
  4. I covered both parts of rhe tail before i fixed them on, carefully removing the film. It fitted well and was strongly fixed. When i added the blocks at the sides i used a spacer to create a gap for the fin( pic to follow)
  5. Hi jim, the drawing above is the correct positioning of the centre line. I measured my wing and the centre is 40mm from the last rib almost perfect with the drawing.so using lyndsay's picture will position everything correctly. Mine is not as bad as i though, it will fit and look ok.i took the line nearest the rib as the centre and as such cut the stringers short. So i added a bit in and may add some more to beef it up a bit, but it seems strong and the sheeting will help. Tony
  6. Found out where i went a bit wrong with the centre of the wing. Back at the start of the build in the main thread there is a discussion about the centre line of the wing. I forgot about that! The dotted lines on the drawing are not the centre line its where the drawing stops. Its about 1.5cm past the dotted line. Now i have figured that out i should be able to complet the wing.
  7. hi matt, looking good. would it be possible for you to post some pictures of the center section of the wing? mines seems to have went a bit wonky so it would be good to get a look at another before I go any further. regards tony.
  8. Hi Peter, its on the wing drawing shown as 3mm web. I did it with the grain running in the same direction as the spars, horizontally. I cut the pieces to fit each bay, glued to the spar top and bottom and also to the formers on the edge. Only on the front main spar and only to where the plywood joing piece fits. This can then be sanded flush for the sheeting to cover. Tony
  9. Wet 2mm shapes quite easily. I bought 1.5mm for the wings. Plenty of pins and rubber bands lol. Hope the kitchen work goes well peter. We are in a caravan with the two youngest grandchildren for a short break so no progress till the weekend. I'm going to progress the fuselage and start sheeting the wings. Im happy with progress though.
  10. Hi jim, the filler at the end is 6mm sheet about 12mm wide. I glued it directly on the end and rounded it off to give smooth finish to the rudder. Its not rounded much but is done. If you are talking about the sheeting the white strip is filler to smooth the join. I used cardboard to make a template for the sheeting then soaked in water for a few seconds. Pinned it to shape and let dry. Then glued it in. Used the 2mm thick sheet in the wood pack. Tony.
  11. Been slowed down a bit, bit continued with the fuselage today I added a packer right at the back to meet the rudder bottom, then covered part of the rear end prior to drilling for the control snakes. Thought I'd give this a go to try and get a neat finish.
  12. Hi all, found these in morrisons today, stainless steel straws about 5mm in diameter. I thought these would be great for exhaust pipe mock ups or something. Four for £2.50.
  13. hi Jim, i noticed on another thread you said you were waiting on a leading edge. Don't know about others but there was no leading edge in the wood pack i received. i cut a piece of 6mm sheet a couple of mm's wider than the front of the wing formers. on mine this was about 16mm's. this gives a lip to butt the sheeting to and the leading edge is then planed and sanded to profile. at least that is my interpretation of the drawing. could another builder chip in on this? regards tony.
  14. hi, i built both parts of the tailplane and added a packer between to widen them as i thought it was a bit short. then i built the elevator to suit the new dimension. it was about 10mm wider. on mine it just looked too close. it looks really strong and i too am just going to glue it to the seat. the drawing says build up around the fin with block so i am going to follow the suggestion of fitting a packer wrapped in tape between the blocks for easy removal after gluing. then i will shape the block and glue in the fin. i also noticed a mention of a small packing piece to build the end of the fuselage toward the bottom of the rudder to decrease the gap there. regards tony.
  15. Hi Chris, i went with that as the center line as well but the build article and the pictures seem different. So i glued in a little packing piece to increase the width a little to ensure clearance for the movement of the rudder and elevators. the wood pack i received does not have any 1.5mm in it either. i ordered it from ebay should arrive today i hope. I thought the same that the wood pack would have everything needed in it. I also seem to have loads of 6 x 6 mm stringers left. Regards Tony.
  16. I was short of a couple of clamps and came up with this idea, i think i should patent it lol. I cut a rubber band and tied one end to a clamp then streched the band round the leading edge. I caugth the other end in the jaw and hay presto an adjustable gripper. Might help someone with the same problem.
  17. Hi jim, my solution was to trim the triangular pieces to fit, as in this photo
