  1. Thanks for the advice. I bought a Brian taylor p51 short set from Sarik with the 15% off deal
  2. Hi I'm looking for a giant scale war bird kit. Really wanted a topflite giant p51 kit but they seem to have all disappeared now. I have seen the seagul master series p47 and zero but these are 1/8 and really wanted something a bit bigger. I know I can go with a short kit but wanted a kit to "hold my hand" through my first giant scale project. Does anyone have any recommendations? Doesn't look like kits exist anymore...!
  3. I have been avoiding skinning my wing for as long as possible but it needs to be done! I am scratch building a 1/4 scale l19 bird dog from Mike Vailly plans. The wings need to be skinning in 3mm balsa. People tend to glue up a skin large enough on s flat surface, then cover the whole surface in one go. I can see how this would work well with a straight wing where all the ribs are the same shape. Is this the correct method to use on a large wing with a taper? This seems like a recipe for disaster with kinks and warps?
  4. Thanks for all the help, think I will just give birch ply a a try. Will put an order in with SLEC.
  5. Thanks for the responses. It is a 1/4 scale L19 bird dog. I am using the Vailly plans but cutting the kit myself so trying to find some of the wood is difficult. its 108" span and target auw of around 10kg. Says to use "3mm" (1/8th) lite ply, then the same thickness in aircraft grade ply and laminate the 2 ribs together. Also says to use 1/4" aircraft grade ply for the engine firewall and sections on the fuse where the wings join. Should I just use birch ply in place of aircraft grade? Its far easier to get hold of in smaller quantities.
  6. Hi I need some 1/8" and 1/4" aircraft grade plywood for my latest build. I cant seem to find anywhere that sells it? I have lots of lite ply but cant find aircraft grade. Does anyone know of somewhere I can order this only, or an alternative term for my "google-ing" Thanks!
