  1. Thanks everybody for all the great advice. I’m enjoying this build although keen to finish before the conservatory gets too cold too build in!!
  2. Thanks sticky fingers, the plans I’m working too have a rudder and elevator. I live in south (Gloucestershire) and intend to join the local club though wanted to get a little closer to having a completed model before I did so. Would you advise fixing the tail assembly? andy
  3. Hi. im a newbie to balsa building and in the final stages of my junior 60 build. Hoping for some advice for some of the final stages 1) the original plans have the tail wings being attached via bands and dowels but I see no benefit in being able to detach them. Is it normal practice to permantly attach the tail wings, rudder etc? 2) any advice on coverings to use. I remember using solar film years ago on a plane but I guess technology as moved on. Looking for Something relatively easy But a decent finish? Also is there anywhere which gives suggested designs for colour schemes and trims or does one just use imagination? 3) When buying the power train and equipment I bought 2 9g micro servos (with a pull of 1.9 kg). I assumed smaller is better and these would be sufficient. The original plans are for a larger servo. Of course I can easily adjust the build to accommodate the micro servos but now I’m worried these aren’t big enough? Any thoughts? 4) ive built a battery box so that the batteries can be removed from front rather than removing wings. There is a cowl hatch at top to access motor, esc etc. I’ve left the access open to the battery box below the cowl thinking this would be best for air flow etc but wonder whether I should build a hatch at the bottom to make it look a little neater? If this doesn’t make sense I can post a picture. 5) from a quick google I see it recommended that one uses number 64 elastic bands to attach the main wings. Is this correct. They don’t seem too substantial. I guess I would use a few? all advice on these points appreciated ... andy
  4. @gangster. The plans seem to suggest that the battery box is in the nose so I would poke the batteries in from front. But I was struggling to fully understand. Do you have any pictures of yours? Thanks.
  5. Picture posted - build so far. Just waiting for equipment to arrive so I can size battery box etc.
  6. Kit ordered. I went with the 4 max recommendations in the main but did read the useful guides so can at least convince myself I understand the physics! 😀 Ok let’s think positively. I get the junior 60 finished. Successful first flight. Whilst I master the basics and practice on the junior 60 I can start a build for my second plane. With ailerons, rudder, elevator. what would you recommend for a second model..........
  7. Thanks for all the advice. I’m now ready to purchase with at least a little understanding. Regarding Ken’s comment (milk float to F1) I’ll remember that when I take to first flight. 😀 My intention is to upgrade to a more complicated model but my initial objective is simply to get a plane in the air and back down to earth in one piece. Hence my choice of Junior 60. I have memories of my first foray into RC 30 years ago and the plan didn’t make it past the first outing. So my aim is to take it easy to start with and learn the basics ...... thanks again.
  8. Ideally I’d love to understand why this spec is ideal for this particular model. I assume one starts with the weight and prop size to work out the thrust required. From that gives the spec for motor and then the spec for esc and batteries. Is anybody able to help me understanding the calculations one does to work these things out?
  9. Hi, I’m new to this forum and to remote control flight. I’m building a Junior 60 model (advised that it would be a good starter model to get up in air!). Ben buckle design. Im now at the stage where I need to buy equipment to fit in and wonder if anybody could advise on specs / models for the main kit (prop, motor, battery, esc, etc.)? thanks in advance, andy p.s, I intend to join a club before attempting flight so should get more hands on advice before I take to the air!
