  1. Hi Dirk

Fantastic that you have put Norfolk Island on your bucket list, would be a pleasure to show you around Norfolk Is.

There are only two of us who regularly slope soar on the Island and we mainly fly foam wings as landings on the Island can be fun.

For the past few years a group of model flyers for Brisbane Australia have come to Norfolk for a very low key fly-in, it is called the Allen Danvers Challenge. If you search Tingalpa Model Aero Club then click on Photo Galleries then click on Allen Danvers Challenge 26 Oct 2019 it will show the modelers from Australia.

Your F-86 looks great.top work will keep working on mine it is really my first serious attempt at PSS.

    Keep in touch Dallas Crisp

  2. Hi Martin, Peter, Andy, Phil

Thank you for all your feedback, great advice. Will chase up the West System 105 and do some practice runs before I try to apply it to my F-86. Will let you know how I get on. Remember if you are ever in the Southern Hemisphere you have to come slope soaring with us, Norfolk Island is truly a most beautiful Island.

Thank you all for your time keep safe Dallas Crisp

  3. Hi Phil

Thank you for your reply. Attending a fly -in at the Orme is an event that I have always wanted to be involved in, but this coronavirus has a mind of its own. Have only used glass cloth once before and the resin I used had the consistency of honey , thus resulting in the model being too heavy, maybe my technique!! Fellow modelers told me that I should have thinned the resin with metho or denatured alcohol. I queried the suppliers on thinning their resin and they strongly warned me against this.

Phil how would you describe the consistency of your skinning resin? Is it thinner than normal resin used in boat building? Glassing models is not one of my strong points.

Have searched Australian Hobby Stores for Skinning Resin with no luck.

Again thank you for your time Dallas Crisp

  4. Hi Martin

Thank you for your reply, I will order a magnetic switch from your link. It just shows that the old saying is true, that you are never too old to learn. My wife and I spend six months of the year on a small island (Norfolk Island )about thousand miles off the east coast of Australia, this is where I do all my slope soaring. There are only two of us that regularly slope soar. It is a beautiful island and home to the descendants of the Mutineers from the Bounty. If you ever have a chance to visit we would love to take you slope soaring, and be assured that the Mutineers will not set you adrift in a boat.

Again thank you for your time Dallas Crisp

  5. Hi Martin

Your building blog has been of great help, however I am in need of a little advice. As my F-86 will soon be ready for covering I have decided to go with glass cloth, could you please tell me the date of the RCM&E that contained that article. Also I have never used or heard of a magnetic switch, Peter has given a link for these so I will give one a go. Any advice on using or installing one, would be appreciated. I believe that you have set up your F-86 with 0 incidence on your wing and tailplane, have you been able to test fly your plane with these settings?

Looking forward to joining in on one of your PSS events next year, will hopefully bring along my F-86. Thank you for your advice and time, Dallas Crisp Brisbane Australia.

  6. Hi Phil

Have just added the tail cone to my F-86 also, and have noticed that when sanding and shaping the fus around the tail cone and nose cone that I will require some filler. What is the best filler to use? I am a little worried that the planking has become a little thin in a few spots, my planking may not be the best!!! What finish will you be applying to your fus? Is fibre glass an option? All the best, thanks Dallas
