you started flying models because?
Chris Turner replied to kiwi g's topic in All Things Model Flying
There's some great story's here, but I blame Father Christmas for my down fall,as he left me a KK Playboy in my stocking in 1958,and I can still remember opening the box and that wonderful smell of balsa wood, thats were the love affair started. The tools we had then were priceless,no razor saw,no modelling knives,no planes, just a broken in half 7-oclock razor blade and that wonderful stuff know as balsa cement and tissue paste, but the balsa cement was very import as you could quicky stop the flow of blood after you had cut your finger with the razor blade. So for the next few years my mission was to save my pocket money to amass the amout of 3/6d so I could spend 4 to 5 hours in Shrewsbury's model shop on deciding what scale kit to buy,but I have never figured out how you make a spitfire canopy out of a flat piece of perspext. After I joined the army in 71 I was stationed in Germany were I was able to a afford a Multiplex 4 and a KK super 60,that was the start of r/c for me,but the mates and times you have flying with a club is the one of the highlight's,model flyers all over the world are all the same...NUTS ...so keep building, keep flying have fun. -

Nice one Bryan, now we know there are at least two hurri's in good old NZ, Look forward to meeting you and talking aeroplanes and flying these two. Chris
-
Hi Bryan The hurri's starting to get there mate, looking good, mine's sitting all charged up and waiting for a window in the weather, maybe tommorow(sunday) I might just get a break. We will have to meet up at Matamata later in the year and put them up together Chris

Myron I've just checked at www.alshobbies.com in the UK and he stocks it at 2.99,and you can order online from him,The full name is Pacer formula'560',hope that helps
-
Hi Myron Well I can't be 100% sure if solartrim will adhere to solartex as I use it on solarfilm, litespan and oracover, but what I have done in the past is before I stick the solartrim on to an airframe is to give it a light coating of Formula'560' canopy glue, that sorts out any coming unstuck issue's, hope that help's bit Chris

Hi Bryan I all ways make my own decals,I use solartrim and cut out the size of decal I want and also the same for the lettering. There is a little trick if you want to try doing them yourself,I use a pair of dividers and replace one point with a brand new scapel blade then I cut the smallest roundel out first, but the trick is put the dividers into solar trim both point and blade into your building board then turn the solartrim keeping the dividers static in the board, then stick the first roundel on to the next colour and so on.Have a go it's pretty easy. Cheers Chris

Hi Timbo Well ok,seeing the weather is so yucky, and because you asked so nice I stick some fairings on for ya. Hi Bryan I fly with the Tauranga Outfit(the old hacks club) out at Apata strip.
-
Hi Thanks Bryan Hi doug I left the wing fairings of on purpose because in the past they are the first things to get hanger rash, and this model is a sport scale and I did not want to go the hole hog. What Bryan said about the ply guide is the road I would have gone down if I had put the fairings on. Hey Bryan out of intrest what part of NZ are you in,I'm in Kati Kati BOP. Cheers guys
-
Hi guys Put a couple of pic's of my Hurri as it sits and waits for a break in the weather for it's maiden flight,as you can see I have not put the retract doors on yet or the radiator until I'm sure the retracts operate ok under flying conditions.

Looking good Bryan, what are you going to cover it with, and are putting on Kiwi decals or pommy ones. Chris
