  1. Yes, but I don't think that the clerget had ever been mounted in a pup? The real engine has to be visible so the cooling stays adequate. And it has two pushrods..... That's a good enough level.
  2. The problem is that I've seen too many restored and/or replica Pups with the "wrong" engine.... I can at least show the judges this: As proof of motive power so to speak. 😁 Sure, a LeRhone dummy would have been better, but it wouldn't have worked with the Saito radial.
  3. Well, not all Monosoupape Pups had that cowling. My dummy engine version 2.0 that I printed out is now mounted on the plywood baffle to be glued to the engine cover. I've only primed it yet, but with some aluminum paint and detailing it will look better. The cooling of the engine will be so much better as a result.
  4. My dummy engine version 2.0 that I printed out is now glued on the plywood baffle (which will later be glued to the engine cowling). I've only primed it yet, but with some aluminum paint and detailing it will look better. The cooling of the engine will be so much better as a result.
  5. As promised, there are things being done on the Pup. I moved the engine 25 mm to the rear and installed a scale cowling. The wheels were replaced with DuBro wheels. I made scale wheel locks for them. I designed a lookalike Monosoupape dummy that would allow some cooling to the radial engine. A few hours in Fusion 360 gave this: I printed it on my trusty old Wanhao duplicator 4S using HiTemp ABS. When test fitted it looks like this: It left room for improvements, so version 2 is in the printer as I write this. The repaint has also started. I added rib tapes from Toni Clark before spraying on the custom mixed PC 10. It's old Powermax Polykote paints that I mixed using black, beige yellow and blue. I added a dash of olive drab to get it perfect. The first coat turned out too brown, hence the addition of olive drab. Now it's just a matter of finishing it before the end of May. Btw, I changed the prototype... I model this one now:
  6. Hi, I have a quarter scale Sopwith pup that's getting some upgrades, it really needed a spruce up of the nose. I also needed to put a baffle around the engine for cooling. I have a three-cylinder Saito radial engine in it, and to mimic the nine cylinders of the original, I had to put two cylinders between each cylinder. The prototype that I'm modeling has a Monosoupape and my idea was to make a look-alike... A quick effort in Fusion 360 paid off: I designed it to fit over the Saito radial. The print turned out really nice, it's high temperature ABS filament. The test fit was good, but it left room for improvements. I will get back when the printer is done printing out the revised version.
  7. Maybe the body is that, but the wing is 2 meter span instead of 152 cm.....
  8. No, it's way bigger wingspan than that.
  9. The body might be 1/5, but the wingspan is too wide.... I guess it's a mistake of some sort.
  10. Hi all, I have this 1/4 scale Sopwith pup, built from a DB kit back in 2000... I bought another Pup the other day that was sold as a DB 1/4 scale Pup. But when I put them together, the size difference is huge... Here is my old one in front: Okay.... Then we have the wings: The new one is smaller, but the wingspan isn't much shorter.... The cowling of the old one compared with the new: You can also see the wheels. So, what gives? The big one is mostly correct when the judges compared the three views of it (except the cowling, which is being replaced with the short lose one). I can't see how two DB models can be so different, so the new model is obviously something else. But what? Thanks.
  11. To summarize the season, I competed three times in F4H with the Pup, and it performed flawlessly everytime. It was even good in winds up to 7-8 m/s. I actually ended up fourth overall. The only change I did was using a 20x6 "Sail" propeller. It flew much better with it. For the next season I have a list of improvements to make. 1- Add a dummy engine 2- build a better cowl. 3- repaint in this scheme: 4- add details! 5- make a better scale documentation.
  12. It all depends on what you print it with. I use tough ABS like resin with some flex additive mixed in. Not only does it make the prints very crisp in detail, they are not so temperature sensitive as FDM prints.
  13. I do have the full version as well. 😉 But this isn't a true to scale Le-Rhone dummy, it's made to fit the Saito engine.
