  1. Try this site for 6mm Depron http://www.birbek.com/products/depron--insulating-underlay.html Get a years supply for about £30
  2. Well I've finished the shower so I might as well pick up from where I left off..... Ordered the canopy today so I will take a walk down the garden tomorrow. Is anyone still flying the lightning? If so how's it going?  Andrew
  3.    Oh to be outside, it's the shower that needs fixing......
  4. I'm afraid real life has got in the way for a bit....I blame the weather.
  5. It's definitely the way forward..... This was a news story on the  BBC  website.  http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/technology/7384788.stmBut there is no reason to wait for Boeing's hybrid vehicle according to a Slovenian company called Pipistrel. By the end of the year it plans to deliver the world's first commercially produced, two seater electric aircraft to customers. Their Taurus Electro can climb to 6,000 feet after taking off using a 30-kilowatt motor. Recharging the glider's lithium-polymer battery is meant to take about as long as charging a cell phone. And weather permitting, the glider can travel 1,000 miles a day.
  6. Jamie it looks cool. I'd love to know the weight before any hard ware install to. It looks a nice clean job. I think the balsa gives such a better quality finish. Superb. Mine is a lovely glider to, my two young daughters ran after it after a test glide (glides are hard to resist ), I watched in horror as their feet danced around it . What motor are you using? I have just had this one delivered. HXT 2445 (370L) 2900kv Brushless Inrunner. https://www.unitedhobbies.com/UNITEDHOBBIES/store/uh_viewItem.asp?idProduct=4197 At 300 watts on a 4.7x4.7 on a 2200 3cell there's plenty enough power, to much really. but that's what the throttle is for. Andrew
  7. I have made a little progress on the lightning. The bulk of the fuesalage is finished. She comes in so far at a whopping 3 oz . I stiffened the wing with 4mm carbon tube, running it along the leading edge of the wing to prevent damage. The next stage is to put the spine and stabiliser on. then she's ready for sealing and spackling.
  8. Another good source is Birbek. They sell the black depron sheets. Very cheap but you have to buy about £25 worth. Probably enough for 20 planes. http://www.birbek.com/mall/productpage.cfm/Birbek/DEPR/70724#
  9. Thanks all for the encouragment. Tidy yes, but I have been warned many times about the epoxy on the work tops.....  Be warned, this is a slow build. Andrew
  10. Hi all, I have started building the Tony Nijhuis Lightning from the recent free plans. She will be built out of "6mm B&Q Depron" and a little carbon fibre rod. As I start any build I'm unsure how it will finish, but I have a good feeling about this one as it is so simple. Obviously I have to make a few changes to the plans to accomadate the depron but overall it should be the same plane. I will paint it with emulsion of halfords aerosol paint. Andrew p.s. Why the 6mm depron? That's all thats in the shed.
  11. I was  hoping to start a discussion about using depron as a modelling material. I'm an avid member of rcgroups.com . There they are building amazing planes, from 40" war birds to 3 metre wing span air buses, all with depron. Yet in the magazine, scratch building with depron doesn't get a mention.  Andrew
  12. Are there many Depron builders out there? I have been modelling and flying for just over a year having known nothing about this fascinating hobby before. I have scratch built every plane from depron and have only used electric. Is Depron buidling still in its' infancy or just not very popular? I subscribe to the magazine yet every plan is for balsa. There seems to be plenty of the ARTF foam planes reviewed but no Depron build features. Andrew
