  1. HI, guys Just A Pic of the Westland Whirlwind, for those who might not  know what one looks like, Very elegant is'nt it
  2. Thanks Tony R. I did see about 6 mnths ago there were a couple of Guys in the U.S building one ( in a unnamed site), but I never saw the end result, did not know they had turned it into  kit  form, have you got there "web" address???. Yes it is a bit large at 108", and thanks for the Vote on the "Whirly" (fighter/bomber) Barry
  3. HEY "Whirly lovers" you can't ask much more than this, when even the "great man himself" wants to design one.    THANKS for your support, Tony Nijhuis, So all of you who are in 2 minds about which one to vote for, take the "designers choice" and ......................VOTE .......ONE..... Whirlwind.....by Westland.   Barry
  4. continuing on, The T Nijhuis 3000mt. Stakes..........................................."And Whirlwind on the rails at the 50 mt. post still in front, by a "short head" then comes Lysander, Chipmunk, Catalina, and Beaufighter side by side , this a tough race, I/2  a lenght behind is Stuka, and Hurricane "pushed up as well,Mossie and Skyraider are neck and neck ,  with Fury and Storch a little further back, well back in the feild is ME109,must need a trainer or it's heart's not in it."................................and that bloody "ducks back".     B
  5. Graham Roberts,  Thanks, as for the Rapide, there was one available, on the internet, somewhere, I just carn't remember where,  but it's quite big , 80" 2 x 40s I think....or It might have been in one of our Aussie Mags, Anyone down here help,   Regards Barry
  6. YES  Efolg, That was/is  the only I.C plan .it was designed by , Gorden Whitehead , I built one and  it flew like a dream, the  plan said to hollow out the rear sheets fo balsa, forming the rear of the fuz, it was a very much a very "bulky" rear end if you didn't do as the plan said. I had great sucess with it, until a "black wire" battery problem, took it to many shows,..... 63" wing, 2 x 25 os in it , it looked great, as per any model in those days engine's were not as reliable as they are today , no on board glows assist, did not have the computers radio's, all of these things make it easier for "today's newcomers", but IF it wins, I am sure Tony has all of these things covered, THanks Barry. (ps CHRIS, best of luck, you'll need it with the Stuka)
  7. YES Chris you are right,     just like sheep they follow each other too, the same reason as the Fairy Fulmar, Mits. K61, and so on, they are not in the top valued  "presige wise" aircraft at the time, DO we as modelers need to follow "market  trends?????"   TA Barry
  8. Hi , yesterday's "thread" to KEN, should have addressed to Matt Watts,  (it was late in the evening),  and I got the angles upside down on the "Stuka,"  Front on wing  view across fuz is flat, then the root changes to a downward angle  to u/c point, the it goes up again to the wing tip, this change in angles, 3  times,is why it is a difficult "wing platform to build" in my opinoin, Matt read the rest of my points page 3 . Barry
  9. To answer CHRIS SALOMON, on page 3, Out of the twelve  planes "offered" up for a "Free plan" there is only 1,...  YES,.... ONE..... ONE ONLY.... that has not been "kitted, arf, Parts & plan offered, IF you care to take the time and "search the world", on internet, you WILL find that somewhere you can obtain the above plans, IN  variuos sizes, building material and elect. or IC.   AND they have been around for YEARS, look at  Brain Taylors drawings. the USA  scale expert ,PLATT, all have done one or the other of them.... NOW to THE WHIRLWIND,  TWO for electric and... ONE.... that's it ,.....in 36yrs there has  NOT been  another plan offered, and you said  " so we don't need another plan, Barry". I hope I have clarified  my persistance on this subject, and (tougue in cheek) .........SO ...........VOTE .....ONE ..... WHIRLWIND by WESTLAND
  10. Mr Erflog, Pete Wilsons plan of the Whirlwind is elect. powered, featured in Rmce a few yrs ago, with retacts, 75" span, did quite nicely, I believe,  the other plan available is also elect. 48", Thank you Barry
  11. THE Stuka, KEN, if you look at the aircraft from the front, there are 3 angles the wing must change per side the "root" goes up, then goes down to the undercarrige point, then goes up again to the tip, Now That is some "serious" building. In opinion, when the crosswind hits the underside of the wing platform it "pockets" under the fuz, awfull things happen to light model at this time. Correct me if I am wrong. The same is as bad with the lysander, the wing sits on top of a very glass covered cockpit----hardly any strength in that for a model, the other point is that the wing is very narrow, requiring flaps and slats to land, Fantasic planes, both But to "model"... in the respect of what we  are asking of Tony??? for a plan inside RMCE,  I think that's asking too much , If you want something unusal to build , then     VOTE 1   WHIRLWIND.   Thanks Barry
  12. ---continuing on-- The T. Nijhuis Stakes.    Whirlwind  in front, passing the 20mt post,  by a nose, of Lysander,Beaufighter and.........."WHATS"  all the noise coming from the Member's Stand, ... your not going to believe this,....... some idiot has brought a "duck" to the races, .....I can see it now It's a Grumman Duck,  I can tell by the long pointy, low underbelly, and the security are trying to catch it, ..............I think there going for Dr. Browning, ....... NO..... It's crashed into the nets trying to take off,...  (Uhhfff there goes my Sunday lunch), Where was I???....... "Ah yes......."Whirlwind by a nose, Lysander, Beaufighter and Catalina close behind, then Skyraider,Stuka, fighting it out, Storch has finally untangled it's long legs and is not far from the leaders,Mossie heads the next bunch with Fury and Chipmunk on the rails, Hurricane is slowly catching up, some rumors say that the jockey got of and had "kick start" the ole girl,...........Me109, well, I noticed the battery trolly heading that way,........Yes it is moving now,... "hoofs" stuck in the mud................... but what's this....... Rain and wind appraoching. this will upstset the lightweights......................                                                    B

  19. STEVE R. Iam impressed with your vote < only trouble is I live in the NW  of WA in Aust. TA (still smiling) Barry
  20. WHILE writing the above someone got in first, Barry
  21. WELL, "GUYS" / "CHAPS" / "MATES" / "BLOKES" and of course the "LADIES", unacustom to public speaking, err... writing, It looks as tho I have the pleasure to start this  voting off , (by pure chance only). Well if you did not read my " contributions"  before, in the 500 odd , I will start again, Westland Whirlwind, twin engine fighter 1936 to 1947, most taken off duty in 1943. 2 sqds only  #263 and #137 , 112 built, faster than the "Spit" in it's day, single seater, more firepower than any, until the Beaufighter and Mossie. Very straight forward wing plan (for a model) elegant lines, high tailplane, "loads" of rudder and elevator , even in the true scale dimensions, simple "bubble" cockpit, straight "fuz" lines, BIg nacelles and low wheel height.   OK, There is ONLY 2 or 3 plans available IN THE WORLD, I know because I have built 2 of them (great flyers), there are DOZ.s of Hurries, Spit's, Mossie's, (have a look on internet) , so, WHY do we need another "done before".THIS aircraft is as simple to build as a "Typhoon" except it's got 2 "power plants"( i.c or elect .). NOT hard, just a little bit more care..... TONY, IT is prudient of me, with and without retracts,  ic. or elect and a enlargement service, for the bigger builder's(my thoughts).  Anyway, IF you want something different in spring to be "oggled" at by you club mates, YOU MUST VOTE ....   1,    Yes,.. ONE, WHIRLWIND........WHIRLWIND by Westland. Thanks David
  22. Thanks guys , all helps, any one else,???? "cheers" Barry
  23. HI, guys, anyone help me with plans/ drawings/ 3views, for a Piper Tomahawk, 70" to 80" , 120 Twin, ?????????? Barry
  24. WELL it's come down to this, "another" Hurricane, HOW Many plans doz.s.  The "Mozzie", Great Twin,  classic aircraft.  Doz's of plans for them.  "Whirlwind lovers" there is still time, not far behind , SO  VOTE now ----  1 , 2 & 3  Westland Whirlwind, THERE IS ONLY 3 "PLANS " available. IF you really want something different at the "Flying Field", ( oh Yea Another Hurricane) Then YOU have to "PULL out all the "STOPS" , and  Vote 1 "Whirlwind".     David/ Tony ,"I rest my case". Barry
  25. WELL guys, appox 1 week  to go, to get your votes in, IF YOU WANT A TWIN, then you have to vote for the WESTLAND Whirlwind, SO many of you have said " there's enough plans of, Spit's, Hurricanes, Me110's, FW190's, Sea Fury's", you name it, they have all been done before, in various, formats / size/ I.C/ Elect.  I would think that a challenge for a model builder is to look at something, that is in "favour", would be "one" THAT has had very little exposure. If you want to build a "run fo the mill " planes, sure, But we are asking Tony N.to offer us something that will give him some enjoyment too, something he will enjoy doing, which I'm sure he does with all his designs, SO let me say once again, in the last 25yrs there has been ONLY 3, yes 3, plans  offered for this aircraft (look back on some the "input" on this forum). 2-- elect. and 1 power.  "DO YOU"  want something different to build ?????????????? VOTE  1, 2,& 3, Whirlwind fighter
