  1. Well, to rephrase my question. How do you scale aces apply all tha small lettering, logos etc. to your masterpieces ernie
  2. most architects are now using CAD systems [except me] There must be thousands of perfectly fine drawing boards hidden away in cupboards. The good ones are perfect for us. High quality timber, braced for trueness. Try a School of Architecture ernie
  3. Thanks, as ever the forum is a mine of information. I've ordered transourdream from the big A in the sky. Ill report in due course ernie
  4. Hi fellow forumites I wonder.....Is it possible to have a sheet of 'letraset' rub on type decals printed? I need all the wee bits of lettering and graphics for my 1/4 scale fokker. Propellor logo, continental tyre logo, manufacturers numbers etc; I can spray the big bits like the crosses etc. I certainly don't want glossy vinyl stuff. It must be matt, and look as if it has been painted on. I can produce detailed and accurate artwork. Oh, and what's german for 'do not walk on the wing' ernie
  5. If a wing is absolutely flat on its underside, then it has no washout or washin. Washout is when the rear of the tips are twisted slightly upwards (two or three degrees) so that the tip is less likely to stall and cause the wing to drop (often dramatically). Washin is the opposite. If you are learning to fly, get everything spot on. It's difficult enough without a twisted airframe ernie
  6. i hardly ever use my garage workshop It's way too cold in winter, and way too hot in summer. I also don't like to work with the big door closed because of all the nasty chemicals in there. So, I save it for noisy, dirty, smelly jobs, and do most things in the house...warm, tele, computer, and all the luxuries of civilisation. So John, I'd go for a huge amount of brownie points, let SWIMBO have it all, and take over a spare bedroom ernie
  7. the windsock file FOKKER E111 has a multitude of fine pictures of E111s, and they are usually dirty old fokkers. They seem to suffer from big oil stains below the cockpit. Also don't forget colour perspective..ie you look at a model from say 1m away. You look at a full size from say 20m...so the colours are less sharp. A light spray of gray does the trick ernie
  8. I can just about live with adverts on the forum for old favourites like Futaba, and even plastic toy spitfires. BUT kitchen Garden...I spend a huge amount of time avoiding that place. It's SWIMBOS domain. I'll eat the stuff of course, but please keep it off our hallowed pages ernie
  9. Hi Michael, All this seems like a very interesting, not to say demanding project. What are you studying? How many hours do you have to spend on the project? What support do you have? (computers, expertise, etc) There is a huge amount of expertise and enthusiasm to be found on this forum, but the more info you can give us about the whole thing the better ernie
  10. We built one many years ago as a student project. It would have been about 3metres high, and cut from silver mylar film (think spaceblanket) It was heated with burning meths in an aluminium food tray. It worked only too well. It broke its tether, and made a bid for freedom It was last seen vanishing upwards. Soon the police arrived. It had been picked up by radar at our local airport who traced the source, and despatched the anti terrorist squad ernie
  11. Dont take any chances with critical components. Replace it. Then, carefully take it to bits. Photo the inside at each stage so you can see how it goes back together. You'll learn a lot, and maybe the problem will be so clear that you'll be able to fix it ernie
  12. Aeons ago, when the world was very young, I visited the Shuttleworth for a show. I arrived the night before with my wee mountain tent. There were a few guys in the hanger. They had white boiler suits on With Shuttleworth Collection written on the back in bleu. "You can camp round there" I was told, "behind the hanger" Next morning, there was an incredible sound outside, and there, to my utter delight was the Sopwith Pup (I think it was the pup) that had just landed. It took me about ten minutes to get my primus fired up, and enjoy a bacon roll with the pilot washed down with the wee dram of malt that all Scots can rustle up for such occasions ernie .
  13. Well, I for one am very happy, and thanks for all the help My original remark to Jon, was intended to avoid him continuing to help out with Laser queries, but we all know how he goes on. PLUS a word for Ian Shaw at Modelfixings. He has sorted out what I need MODELFIXINGS MODELFIXINGS ernie
  14. thanks all I'm onto it..And Jon away back to the fiery seats ernie
  15. Hi all, I've got a beautiful old (about 20 years old) Laser 150. I've lost the propnut.. Leeds model shop have sent me a new one, but it doesn't fit. The wee bag is marked Laser 100 and 155 prop nut and washer What is the correct thread? ernie
