1. Thanks guys. This is(at the moment) a one-off trip, and I'm trying to hold out for the new JR 2.4 modules before I switch over so I'll get on to ebay.
2. definitely agree with that scott, but I think that the experienced have a responsibility to set the comfortable tone at the field that they are there to help rather than humiliate. Although we get a bit raw with our regular flying buddies, I would never direct anything that couldbe taken offensively at a novice. Alistair, thats not a bad idea, wonder if they would entertain that?
3. Scott, most of the guys prop-hanging are experienced pilots who know how difficult it is for a beginner to concentrate while a 100cc petrol is thumping away in their ear. Certainly my own common sense sees me stay on the ground if I see a buddy lead on the flightline. Alistair, I think the problem with
but it does sometimes seem that some planes are sold as automatically transforming the purchaser into Douglas Bader
lies with the retailer as opposed to the manufacturer/distributor. Once the rep has convinced the hobbystore owner to buy the model his interest ends, he's made his sale. The retailer however has still to find a buyer, and if that involves selling it to a less than prepared novice with a faint "best join a club to learn to fly that" then thats what will happen. And many a beginner in this area who has asked for my has heard nothing about insurance, despite having the latest "CHINA-X ZY46 powered supertrainer" and an all singing dancing Tx
4. http://www.myhobbystore.com/ProductDetails/mcs/productID/2962/groupID/10/categoryID/123/v/c78a0aa7-3bff-43a1-b34c-3533b48ceeee This is the link to order back issues, last I checked any free plans were included in the price
5. You won't shoot someone down by switching on an Rx on the same frequency, but he has the opportunity to send your model careering through the pits. As long as the model is well restrained(pit man, tie-down, WHY) you shouldn't have a problem. The other point about checking the throttle position is rarely valid, every ESC I have operated has a failsafe system whereby it detects if the throttle is closed, if it isnt the ESC won't power the motor, but I am aware that some out there don't have this
6. the original jazz was sold ARC by Weston but went away a long time ago. The mini was sold as a plan pack but I forget who by. Did a bit of looking and the only thing I can find is an undercarriage on carbon copy, type "CCU00 Undercarriage Legs" into their search bar. Coke/cider bottle for the canopy should be fine though
7. not a bad idea, but they were already cut to size when I took over the project.
8. no problem, contact island hobbies http://www.islandhobbies.co.uk/16392.html
9. How difficult is it to get hold of a 2nd hand Tx/rx on 41, I'm going over in October and fancy taking my parkflyer.
10. The degree of tolerance will depend on the particular aircraft, a pylon racer doing 200mph will amplify a 1mm warp to levels a trainer could only imagine. How much you can personally tolerate depends on what you want to do with your aircraft, the rules are different for every type. My profile has the port wing leading the starboard by almost 1/2"(i was on painkillers that night, dumbest idea) but because it flies slowly and probably spends more time in the hover than horizontal I don't notice it. My pattern ship was built as accurately as possible, none of the critical distances are out by more than a millimetre and this shows in the tiny trim changes to fly straight.
11. I've had a thought, what about pinning the washout strip in place with the pin heads sunk in so as not to change the angles, then pin the wing into the strips after the top skin is in place, I'll probably use PVA rather than cyano so setting time should be ample to carry that out?
12. If you want to copy the funtana concept you try it with capiche 50s, get the plans, make two fuselages one of each wing panel and make a centre section from the root rib. That would be a good build thread
13. Not one of mine, but I did end up with the crashed model afterwards, friend couldnt understand why his engine kept cutting after about 2mins in the air. Checked the needles, plug, fuel, lines looked ok, nothing in the carb so decided to perservere. Cut at the wrong moment and voila, one broken airplane. It wasn't until I stripped out the engine and tank at home that I noticed he'd plumbed a vent line to the carb!
14. on a similar note to above, I have managed to fill an entire tuned pipe with fuel before. my dad once tried to stop a cowled engine(cyano in the carb barrel) by sticking a screwdriver in to push the fuel line off the carb nipple. Stitches resulted. my personal best would be playing to the crowd with a small overweight scale aerobat, trying to get lower inverted passes each time. I think I left the rudder 40yds behind
15. I think you're going to struggle to find anything commercially. I'd probably take inspiration from the Ripmax Extra Slim twin from a few years ago, stapling two profile fuselages together via a centre stub wing. There was a guy on one of the US forums that did the same with two Funtana 90s but I don't know that he had a lot of success, don't know if you're allowed linking to other forums but anyway http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/m_3000293/mpage_1/key_twin%2Cfuntana/tm.htm
16. here's a good electronic version http://www.blaineaustin.com/3d_tips.htm
17. somewhere around a 16x10, much more pitch than that will be wasted energy as the drag footprint on the giles is huge
18. Everyone is shouting for arfs, but if you can build I'd say definitely an Acro Wot
19. yea thats fine, I can understand if they would rather it not be uploaded. RCME seemed to swallow a few mags along its way, I seem to remember Radio Modeller suffering the same fate. I'll send a private message with my email address just now as I may not get online again until monday. Appreciate the help, thanks again.
20. Hey FTB, I've added a couple of pics in keeping with the theme to that album, hope you don't mind
21. I've watched 3 of these now, and although things like sig wonders flying into 2ft high grass at the end of the runway can be funny, the rest of it seems like pure incomptence. And trying to fly parkfly mustangs and the like through a gazebo is asking for trouble
