  1. Hi Mark
Not too far away from you,I built my first plane in 1978,after buying RCM&E I even still have the magazine,My Simple Skyman No 3 is still here.I used to go to Martins Models a lot years ago,and have flown on his flying field a couple of times, back in the early nineties.
Hardly flown in the last 10 years,I have a son 9 and twin boys coming up 4,so hopefully I will be flying next year,if I can get the planes going.
    Regards Chris.
  2. Hi Lee
Thanks for the info about the site at Montford Bridge,Haven`t got much spare time at the moment, but trying to get my old models running again just incase i get some spare time, having problems starting a mds 40 3 years old never been started.
currently building a glider and a 1/4 scale Sig Cub.
    Regards Chris
  3. I taught myself to fly with a 72 inch glider with a enya 049,took off from one of our fields many years ago, perfect launch, everything was going well till I tried to turn to the left, nothing happened it carried on straight, eventually it came round to the left about a 1/2 a mile or more away, you could just see it.To my left was a wood which it was heading for,I could do nothing to control it,so I ran for the wood then lost sight of it,(should never have put in a 2oz tank)then in a clearing in the wood it came over me,so I held on full down elevator which suddenly brought it down like an arrow into the ground, needing a lot of repair work.
The reason for all this as I soon found out was that the aerial wire had pulled out from the receiver,so after about 30 yards it must have gone out of range.
So after that prior to take off,I always check all controls (with Tx aerial down at about 20 yards away)for correct movement etc,and check for interference ,then if all is well extend Tx aerial and go.
When servo reverse came out on transmitters
It must have caught out a lot of people, when swopping from one model to another, several times I have had to change the switches over in this last minute check.
  4. Looks like i have been doing it wrong for the last 30 years,I have always put a very fine smear of epoxy onto the hinges and then pushed them in,making sure none squeezies out, otherwise you have to put in a new hinge.
So if i use cyano ,I push the hinge in first, both surfaces, dril holes top and bottom, with out going through hinge, and run cyano down into hole, which must soak into balsa and spread out over hinge over a wide area.

  5. I am building a 72 inch glider for slope soaring to get my young sons interested in the hobby,I have been out of the hobby for a few years, but trying to get back into it again.
My question is HOW MUCH OF A HILL DO I NEED FOR SLOPE SOARING?
I have a small hill right behind our house facing west, and if you walk to the top,a distance of about 150 yards you go up about 100 feet, would it be possible to glide off this in the right conditions.
