I have downloaded Mission Planner What do I do next?
My esc has arrived so all ready to go now hope to have it going by Easter, will test the old one with a spare receiver battery and motor, lots of spares here, will test motor as well.
Pete,12 months ago I bought a Syma x5c so I am well used to flying quadcopters, wish I was better at it,once they get downwind of you theyre gone,I always fly into wind.
I must balance my props, especially on my planes, got a ballencer but must get a decent one.
-
Wow Mark ,that's brilliant,I have learnt a lot just reading that and the clear photos realy help, and theres me worrying about fitting my new ESC which arrived today.
-
Hi Mark,Looks like I may have to go on to Mission Planner,do I connect a lead from the Nova to my computer and then am I able to calibrate it on my computer? or do I still need to do the short 20 second flight and then go 3-5 turns horizontal and 3-5 turns nose down?.Resetting the angle from 20 to 35 degrees looks a good idea ,once they get downwind of you theyre gone. Can I do that in Mission Planner?
White Tx good fo 300 meters is fine for me,50 meters is far enough,GPS lock that's back to calibration I believe, not done that yet, can`t switch Tx on within 5 secs of connecting battery,OR is there an easier way?
What is Tarannis?
When the ESC went (if it has gone)it only tipped over 2-4 inches off the ground and the motor cut out and never worked since, wiring looks fine motor seems ok (continuity test) is there any way of testing the ESC?
The ESC I ordered was an exact match, which is why I ordered it,but anything could turn up.

Hi Mark,I am new to all this with Quadcopters,Have flown the Nova briefly back in October before the rains came, not calibrated anything yet.
When I fit the new ESC will I need to calibrate it,I have the white Tx that came with it.
Yours sounds very impressive,I would be very pleased just to get mine working.
I will certainly check your posts out on rc groups and you tube
-
Hi Pete, thanks for your help, have just bought one on ebay from Wolverhampton, might have it by the weekend, will look up your calibration link next in case I need it.

Thanks Pete,I shall have a look at Banggood, are they in China?Soldering looks ok,Calibration looks a bit confusing.
-
I was trying to set up my Quanum Nova the other day when it tipped over only a couple of inches off the ground, seems as though it has blown the ESC ,how easy is it to get another ESC ,and are they easy to fit, and does it need calibrating.
I have got a small soldering iron.

Its the first time I have done anything like this,I wanted something strong for my 72 inch wingspan Cessna 172, but when I saw the thickness of it I wondered how I was going to cut it.Next time I will try 0.5 mm
-
Hi Bob ,I have just tried cutting with scissors, now I will try your way with a knife.
-
Thanks Steve, I shall give it a go,seems very tough for 1mm ,lucky I decided on 1 mil and not 1.5
Just worried about it splitting with scissors.Off into the workshop now to try it.
-
I have an A3 sheet of PETG 1mm thick ,came this morning in the post. What is the best way of cutting it?

Hi Max I have had a lot of trouble over the years with cold and damp in the workshop,I now have insulated it and use a dehumidifier 24/7 keeping it at around 60% RH which also keeps the temperature up about 10 degrees Fahrenheit.Lowest temp this winter is 40 Fahrenheit.
My Lipos stay out, cyano doesn`t last long though.
-
Peter,I picked up 3 needles from down our farm which will do,problem is every time you use it you have to clean out the needle,or put on a new one. If I used the flexible tube I would block it straight away. Not too impressed with the first tests either, needs leaving over night,or a warmer workshop.
Steven, whats the weather like in Canada for flying?we have had our first dry week for nearly 4 months,it never seems to stop raining here.
Chris
-
Thank you John and Steve,I have moved the wing centre section out of the workshop which is 6 degrees centigrade into the bedroom 17 c
Araldite has been at room temp for 2 days.I always use slow setting epoxy in case I need to make adjustments, Araldite Rapid goes off too quick for me,I use masking tape ,lots of it so I need more working time too.So I shall leave the clamps for now and just tape it up well.
Building board is in the bedroom now until it warms up enough to go back into the workshop,I don`t like using my Evostik below 10 degrees C.
-
I need to glue the wing dihedral brace on my cub,is it best done at room temperature?and should I clamp it together tight, sometimes I do sometimes I don`t,it all depends how easy it is to clamp it.
-
Peter,my Super Phatic glue came this morning, and like yours it has the long flexible micro tube, can`t do much with that, what is it for? I shall now have to get some needles to go on it.

Thanks for that, looks good PETG 1.5 mm A4 size £3.14 on ebay. The side windows don,t matter so much any clear plastic will do there.Just want to do a good job on the windscreen.

I started building A 72" near scale Cessna 172 from a CAP plan over 30 years ago,
I now need to fit a Windscreen on it,what should I use, someone has said to use Acetate sheet .

Just ordered some more Evostik wood glue, its been reliable in the past so I shall stick with it a bit longer.
-
What is the difference between my Evostik wood adhesive and Aliphatic?
-
Hi kc,De luxe super phatic looks a realy good glue,I shall give that a try.
Thanks John for the thumbs up for my Evostik green bottle, got a blue one as well,i think its waterproof perhaps I should use that instead of the green.
Percy I have never used Aliphatic ,will look it up later, used cyano occasionally but as you said I find it too brittle, handy for quick fixes.Allen is ok to use different glues on a wing,i always try to use one glue.
-
For the last 20 years or more I have been using Evostick wood adhesive for glueing in my wing ribs,is this ok or should change to a newer type of glue?
Chris
-
Brilliant thanks Martin.
-
Martin, 1 degree dihedral = 0.5763 degrees on each wing, which works out at 0.54inches approx. under each wingtip ,

Thanks Pete, great video, just starting to understand it all now,so when he stands the APM up against a set square ,Do I do the same with the Nova?
