  1. Hi, I've just completed a MiniMag and have flown it a few times now on exactly the same control throws you describe, using only ailerons in the turns.  I have noted a little sluggishness in response at times and think I might increase the throws a little but generally I've found the aeroplane quite flyable with recommended throws. Cheers, Tim.
  2. Hi all, I hope this isn't TOO daft a question - I'm still fairly raw in this exciting hobby! I'm putting together a power train for a new EP model and have a general question about motors and ESCs.  Is it generally permissible to "mix and match" motors and ESCs from different manufacturers as long as the ESC is rated highly enough in terms of current capacity and (obviously) that a brushless motor is used with a brushless ESC?  I suppose really my question boils down to whether any ESC can be used with a given motor as long as current requirements are met? Specifically, I've just ordered an EnErG C35-20 motor and SP50A ESC, but now find that the SP50A is fairly hard to come by at the moment and wondering what I could use as a replacement. Thanks, Tim.
  3. Thanks for confirming my own thoughts Alistair. I hadn't considered how much the wings are swept back as a factor - that's most interesting. I guess the innate stability of a high-wing model with some dihedral is useful when you are learning, though I must admit that, even though I'm still a novice, I do find occasionally that the way a trainer "unwinds" the bank during a turn can be a nuisance! Many thanks for your input. Cheers, Tim.
  4. Hi all, Being fairly new to this fantastic hobby, I've got a very basic, theoretical question. When you apply a bit of aileron to commence a turn, if you then centre the Tx stick again does the aeroplane more or less keeps the bank on and hence keep turning? My experience suggests that it does, but I'm puzzled as to how this works with a model that has dihedral. I thought that the dihedral tended to make the model recover from changes in bank, due to the differential lift on each wing when they are not level? I've not had much real stick time yet but I've done quite a bit on a simulator and I've noticed that the bank does seem to slowly "evaporate" on some models as the turn progresses. Is this the reason why? Comments very welcome! Cheers, Tim.
  5. Hi all, Justy joined this site and very new to R/C fixed-wing flying (been flying helis for a while). I've just built a Multiplex MiniMag and taken the option to add aileron servos. Firstly, am I right in thinking that in the radio (a Spektrum DX7) I have to set the wing type as "Flaperon"? I did this and, sure enough, the aileron servos both move as expected, except that I notice that both servos only move a small amount in one direction but the full amount in the other. It's as if half the Tx stick travel has no effect. Is this "normal" for this scenario? Sorry if this is a really daft question but I really am a novice in fixed-wing! Many thanks, Tim.
