  1. Hi ... After receiving the engine back I have remounted it on my test bench. Mixed up a fresh mix of oil and fuel 20/1 18/6 wood prop... idles at 1300..peak RPM 6450.. it's smooth and sounds excellent... MMM used a 17/6 prop.. hence 6700 . I'm so happy to finally have a good conclusion.. Now to get it in a airframe... Thanks for the help and advice with this matter.
  2. Hi everyone I have finally been given some good news from MMM. He's had the engine back on the bench, serviced it and re tuned it . It's now reading 6700 RPM. Starting easily good tick over... Looking forward to getting it back and on my test stand.. Many thanks for all the interest in my problems and help offered...
  3. Nice to hear that ARC . I'm hoping to post good news soon.. thanks again for everyone's input.
  4. Hi ARC It has all his mods,, I'm waiting for him to get back to me with some good news.
  5. This is where the expert eye comes in. Master and the apprentice type thing. I'm definitely not expert, still making the tea ☕.. I'll keep you all posted.
  6. Thanks Jon for your insight. It's been a unwanted trial for me. In the end I just wanted to get it back to mmm. I ended up doubting myself. It reminds me of a brand new ngh 30 FS. It went on the test bench for breaking in it wouldn't perform on the rpm following break in . Sent it back to Just Engines . After a few weeks they said no matter what they did ( checked ignition, changed carb) it didn't run.. ended up sending me a replacement unit.. They did say that i wasn't the only one that had this problem.. Cheers everyone.
  7. Hi Dennis.. it's back with MMM .. Will post again when I get it back..
  8. I had a 17/6 on initially I forgot to mention that, also MMM asked me to try a 18/ 8.. the rpms are massively out and erratic no matter what was on it . Let's see what happens when MMM gets to work on it... Cheers.
  9. Hi Dennis it's correct for the engine both in the manual and MMM recommendations...
  10. Hi Brian many thanks for your help. Yes I have a healthy 2s lipo. Your right a below par battery especially on a multi cylinder will cause problems... I hope to have some good news shortly.
  11. Hi Jon.. after reading the in depth post I get where your coming from on the needle setting. I will give you some info hopefully setting the background 1/ I'm in the Lancashire area. Not the Andes LoL 2/ prop is a 18/8 wooden Airostar. 3/ top rpms are 5000 and erratic Needles set at factory values after I used the air line.. I felt the engine was ticking over better but it's woefully down on high end no matter what I do... The engine was sat for Four months after it came back from MMM with the NEW carb he did run it up and posted it back. Could the fuel have congealed in the pump or something in that time? I know I'm just trying to understand what happened. I have been in this hobby for 30 odd years tuned many a engine but this has got the better of me. I had a chat with Morris and he's asked for the engine so he can look at it.. so I'll post what he finds. Many thanks guys for your input...
  12. Hi after a few efforts to sort the problem out though we got somewhere after blowing out the carb. Needle valve was set back to recommend setting 1.5 out . And air could be heard to go into the carb . Unfortunately I couldn't get the 6500 rpms out of this engine .. Morris mini motors has asked me to send it back, hopefully I'll have good news soon.
  13. Hi Engine Doc. Thanks for your help, Yes the Satio carb has a pump incorporated all be it a weak one. I used some back pressure in the tank to push fuel to the carb(access is restricted)but only after opening the needle another turn otherwise it felt like I had a closed needle. I have spoken to Morris today and feel I'm closer to having the issues of rpms sorted. Cheers
  14. Hi Jon thanks for the information. Crank breather is plugged up. I'll be on it later today and give MMM a bell. I have to get this right.
  15. Hi Jon I can't compete with your knowledge of these engines. As mentioned it's a MMM engine with the mods that they specify for the motor. Any changes in the settings are done with the engine running, and it seemed better on the RPM. I'll be spending more time with it tomorrow. I'll also ring Morris for a chat. Hopefully I'll be on the money after that. Cheers
