  1. Looks like a good improvement on my Nebula! Please count me in.
  2. Thanks guys. I suppose its going to be the radial mount then for an aerobatic model , given I have the room. Its going to be a six footish Cap or Extra , and the ones that I have looked at in the flesh so far seem to have loads of room up front!
  3. Thank you Simon. What are the advantages of using one of these.I remember being supplied with something like your description with a large Supre Tigre once , but I chose to machine a dedicated aluminium beam mount on that occasion , as the firewall was not big enuogh to fit the radial mount.I have heard suggested that if I were to put this engine in an aerobat , that I should put it on a radial mount("it" being a 25cc glow).Would there be a specific reason for this,ie does it distribute loads better or something?
  4. Sorry for my ignorance , but what is a radial engine mount , and what are the advantages of using one?
  5. Yes please , I've got an engine waiting!!!
  6. Thank you guys. Its nice to see a common result. Richard , yes I was aware that the hook needs to be releasable , just didn't word very well , sorry. I have since found a good site for info - scalesoaring.co.uk - this has some good ideas and designs for a tug release , so I shall hit the workshop this week , probably machine up a little aluminium jobbie! Also thanks for the advice on the line length , we do have a large patch , so I'll go with as long as poss! How do you feel about the tug/engine combination for this size of glider?
  7. Count me in , the Cub would look smashing next to my T240!
  8. I have a ripmax nebula .Whilst happy with the flying characteristics , I have always been dissapointed with the climbing ability of the model. As I have limited funds , I have not followed the route of brushless motors/Li po , deciding instead to try a bit of towing .so I have stripped out the power train and rebalanced the model and fitted a nose mounted release hook. Fortunately I also have a Precedent T240 , fitted with a 25cc Supre Tigre glow motor. The model chugs around beautifully on about 1/3 throttle and would seem to be the perfect towing craft for the Nebula.(comments welcome!) The problem that I have is that I don't know where to put the tow hook on the plane.I would assume it would be around the centre of gravity , but my concern is of the tow line snagging on either the fin/rudder or the tail wheel. We do have a couple of guys at the club that already tow , but I have not been to the feild for a while and would like to get the models prepared now that the clocks have gone forward! Any help would be really appreciated , from your own experience  , or from any sites that you may know of that may contain relevant info.
  9. Mike, I sympathise with your point of veiw to an extent , after all where do we go to buy the odd half gallon of fuel or any odd bits and pieces when all the model shops have gone?? My local shop is a "Hobby stores" and use it for odd bits , the staff are helpful but their prices in general are higher than others in the uk. Larger items I generally get from SMC , their service is first class , and I find them always knowlegable and helpfull.I find SMC to be keenly priced in the uk , but admit that I do not compare prices from overseas.
  10. David, I have posted a few pictures at:-  http://picasaweb.google.co.uk/Marstonini/20071113 Please feel free to have a look , and see if these shed any light. Bob and Eric , thanks also for your input , unfortunately I have not been able to find anything out  about "Skyways" kits.As you can see from the pictures , the model will only really require a little "artistic licence" to finish building. So , with help of a few scale photos it shouldn't be too difficult!!Unfotunately the kit has no cowl with it , I think maybe a thin ply skin around some 1/8 ply formers with a shaped balsa front , any thoughts?
  11. David, Have taken some pictures , but not sure how to add them to this reply. I have them saved on my computer , but don't know what "url" means.??If you could offer some help to a self confessed computer numpty , i will gladly post the pictures. Also in response to your "how many flyable planes" thread , I currently have three. An Illsan extra , fitted with an OS 61 , a Precedent T240 , fitted with a Supre Tigre 25cc , and a Ripmax Nebula ,which I have just removed the powertrain from and re balanced to tow behind the T240.I fly at the Newmarket Model Flying Club. Other models in a non flyable state are ; Top Flite Mustang and a Precedent Funfly.
  12. I have just been given a box of bits (some already assembled)to build a Corsair.I have no plans/assembly instructions and have no idea who manufactured this kit.It has a 50" wingspan , the wing is foam with a veneer skin,as are the tailplane , fin and rudder. The top rear half(from cockpit rearwards)is of the same construction.Does this description ring a bell with anyone who may have built one of these in the past , i'm guessing that this could have been sitting collecting dust for a few years!
  13. Thank you Timbo , most interesting , I like the idea of just changeing the batteries!!
  14. I normally fly I.C , but fancied a glider , so I bought a Nebula (right or wrong , I don't know).Although I'm happy with the way that it flies , but I'm dissapointed with the climb rate and power duration.I have been told that I can convert to a brushless motor , but I have no idea where to start! What size motor? Which speed controller?I have a very tight budget , so can I change the motor/speed controller and change the batteries at a later date?If so , what batteries would I need and what are the costs involved , including chargers?Any information would be most welcome , perhaps if anyone out there has already done this conversion ,or similar , what is your set up? Are you happy with it?
